If you're already hip to their sound you won't need any head re-adjustment to get into the opening title track on Five of Cups - it's a dreamy yet powerful suite of ascending riffs and hypnotic diversions shot through with wistful intrigue. The gauze maintains as the album unwinds, although there are hidden depths to be explored in the second half as Mexican psych duo Lorelle Meets The Obsolete lend their touch to 'The Darkest Timeline' and Estrella Del Sol feeds into soaring closer 'Happier'.

Review: We all know that The Strokes' initial three album run of Is This Is It, Room On Fire and First Impressions Of Earth is the high watermark for their entire back catalogue. But that isn't to detract from their more latter day output, with 2011's Angles amassing a sincere cult following in the years since. Boasting one of their biggest singles to date, 'Under Cover Of Darkness', while showcasing the member's desire to begin toying with the sonic expectations from a band so tightly bound to their garage rock revival roots; deep cuts such as the watery synth-laden opener 'Machu Picchu', would take full advantage of their foray into MIDI electronics, subtly revitalising their formula in a manner many have only just begun to learn to appreciate in earnest.

Review: The Strokes's Comedown Machine is often said by fans to be one of the most consistent albums of the much loved band's career. It showed off once again their immaculate knack for irresistible hooks and catchy grooves, all of which had been present over four previous albums but perfected on another level here. Alongside the group's signature sounds are thought-provoking, strange and sexy themes. It wasn't promoted hard but the album still hit the Top 10 of the UK charts and the same over in the US. This limited edition reissue arrives on a lovely limited yellow and red marbled slab of wax.

Review: The love affair between Colombia and African music tracks back to the 17th Century and the establishment of San Basilio de Palenque, the first free town in colonial Latin America which offered refuge and commune for Black slaves. It was a place where African culture could thrive and joyously intermingle with local customs, and centuries later the Afro-Caribbean communities in Colombia established their own twist on Jamaican soundsystem culture in the 20th Century known as 'picos', where styles such as Kenyan Benga music were able to wow crowds on homemade rigs. This compilation takes a loving look at the unique guitar-picking style which developed its own distinct qualities that could only come from one time and place at the intersection of vibrant cultures.

Review: Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti are busy reissuing remastered versions of their most classic albums. Pagan Tango originally came in 1991 and was described at the time by Melody Maker as "perfection." This is the first time the album has been available on vinyl since it was originally put out and it comes on limited red vinyl with a printed inner sleeve of archival photos making it a real collector's special. Tracks like 'Ecstasy' reference the trendy drug of the day, there is taut EBM on 'Take Control' and more sultry tunes on 'Face to Face'.

Review: Originally conceived in 2019 during a tour with industrial hardcore purveyors Uniform, Japanese psychedelic noise-rock juggernauts Boris would invite their co-conspirators on stage to reimagine the trio's classic "Akuma no Uta" as part of their encore, with the resulting chemistry inspiring both acts to begin crafting a fully collaborative album. Many years of exchanging ideas from one home studio base to another has finally bore fruit in the form of the hideous yet glorious Bright New Disease. Combining almost every nuance of each group's genre-less machinations, the project swells and extends in every sonic direction from harsh walls of screeching noise to retrofitted Japanese D-beat hardcore, with time in between for aquatic, shoegazing serenity and mechanized industrial venom.

Heinlein, the film follows a group of young soldiers who enlist in the military to fight a war against a hostile alien race known as the Arachnids. Matching this timeless venturing into the unknown, composer Basil Poledouris provides a powerful and propulsive orchestral work that reflects the film's militaristic and satirical tone, making thorough use of his in-house Hollywood Studio Symphony to hammer home an expressionistic foremost brass section. Varese Sarabande now reissue the soundtrack as an expanded edition with bonus tracks, on a first time vinyl version after the initial 2016 release.
