Review: Joseph Kosinski, famous for his direction on 'Tron: Legacy' scored by Daft Punk, wanted to go a completely different direction for 2013's 'Oblivion' starring Tom Cruise. An emotional, epic soundtrack composed by French electronic act M83 was the only real option for him - a match made in heaven. Immediately, 'Jack's Dream' and 'Waking Up' are cinematic and vast in scope with blaring strings that swell in ways that only movie soundtracks can. A complete departure from Anthony Gonzalez's megahit 'Midnight City', 'Oblivion' is an orchestral affair that is bold and punchy, with soft and ethereal ambient patches scattered throughout. The title track is a major standout, featuring Norwegian talent Susanne Sundfor, a favourite vocalist and frequent collaborator of Royksopp. Expect the unexpected, but prepare to be amazed.

Review: The 1968 film 'Gangsters 70', also known as 'Days Of Fire', is a lesser-known classic Italian crime thriller directed by Mino Guerrini. Something of a lost relic in the genre, we're surprised that it's taken this long for the soundtrack, composed by Egisto Macchi, to be reissued alone for the first time here. The stylistic fusion of free improvisation, abstract electronic ornaments and jazz lends well to the film's noir, thrill-of-the-chase overtones, and will surely be a favourite of just about any and every lover of free, abstract musics. The soundtrack also tapers off into horrific, screechy directions, reflecting the ever-unfurlingly paranoid mood of the flick.

Review: Mirai is a Japanese adventure fantasy comedy written and directed by Mamoru Hosodo for the beloved Studio Chizu, the house behind genre favourites such as Belle, Wolf Children and The Boy & The Beast. The latter two releases came with soundtracks by Takagi Masakatsu, a bonafide master of scores whose ability to interpret narratives sonically has been referred to many times before. Here, the composer and musician opts to combine a dreamy aural aesthetic with more simplistic tonalities, which to him apparently reference the everyday family dynamics playing out on screen, combined with the more extraordinary elements of the story itself. The result is at times woozy and dizzying, in other moments reflective and relaxing, and always immediately captivating, romantic, and smile-inducing.

Review: 1980's Un sacco bello translates as Fun Is Beautiful and is an Italian comedy movie that was produced by Sergio Leon and marked the debut for director Calro Verdone, who was also the head actor and screenwriter. The soundtrack is one of the very many by legendary composer Ennio Morricone and this was his first collaboration with Verdone. He wrote pieces for each of the main scenes in the movie with the opening being a funky rhythm workout before more nostalgic, dreamy and romantic pieces follow later, all performed by an orchestra and additional musicians.

This collection contains a selection of pieces such as the brilliant main theme from Grand Slam (1967); the shake rock (opening credits) from Dario Argento's classic Four Flies On Grey Velvet (1971) the danceable from the noir film Violent City (1970); the beat version of the opening credits of 'Pioggia Sul Tuo Viso' by the Sorrows, from How I Learned to Love Women (1966); 'Per Vittorio (Bossa)', an elegant bossa nova with flute and percussions from The Success (1963); the tribal shake from I Cantori Moderni, which winks at the dies irae from Garden of Delights (1967); 'Scuola di Ballo al sole', a wild surf piece from the Hawks and the Sparrows (1966); the supreme bossa nova from One Night at Dinner (1969) with the super iconic voice of Edda Dell'orso; the shake music of "'Ostinazione al Limone from What Have you Done to Solange?
