Analog VCO/LFO module with wide frequency range - 4HP
Notes: The Micro Precision VCO is a space-saving and utterly precise analog VCO/LFO with a extremely wide frequency range, immaculate tracking over at least ten octaves and nearly perfect waveforms.

Basically, it's the same circuitry like the High-End VCO A-111-2 but with reduced functions and controls. It is suitable as a modulator for exact linear FM and much more.

The A-111-3 has two elements for setting the frequency: A switch selecting between LFO and VCO mode as well as a tune control with a jumper-selectable range:

- Jumper position 1: 16Hz to 20 kHz
- Jumper position 2: 16Hz to 70Hz
- Without jumper: 16Hz to 22Hz

The XM potentiometer can be used as a fine tune control as long as nothing is patched to the XM socket.

The oscillator has a frequency range of at least fifteen osctaves (0.0001 - 40 Hz in LFO mode; 0.5 Hz to 20 kHz in VCO mode) and offers perfect 1 V per octave tracking over ten octaves minimum, typically in the range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Frequencies below 25 Hz are visualized with a two-colour LED.

The 1V per octave input is accompanied by two FM inputs, one for linear and one for exponential frequency modulation. A jumper determines whether the module obtains pitch CV via the internal bus.

The VCO has a triangle core from which sawtooth, pulse and triangle are derived. The wave forms are almost perfect and sans glitches.

The pulse width can be set with a control from 0 to 100% and of course it can be modulated.

There is one input for oscillator synchronisation and its type, either hard or soft sync, is jumper-selected. Both types differ in sound with the hard sync being more aggressive and richer in harmonics.

Breakout module for the A-127 Triple Resonance Filter - 8HP
Notes: This expansion module offers the following additional functions:

- Notch filter for each sub-unit
- Separate outputs for lowpass, high-pass, bandpass and notch for each sub-unit
- Separate audio input with attenuator for each sub-unit

The breakout module allows the separate use of each of the three A-127 filters. In addition, the filters can be patched parallel or serial. Especially the serial connection of three notches generates very complex phasing-like structures. For parallel filter connection the existing mixer of the main module may be used or an external mixer. For serial connection the filters are patched in the desired sequence at the breakout module. A jumper is used to define the filter type for each sub-unit for the mix unit of the main module.

The breakout module can be used without modification only in combination with the new version of the A-127 (PCB printing "Version 4"). Only the new version has the expansion connector available, that is required to connect the breakout module without soldering. It's also possible to combine the breakout module with older versions of the A-127 (versions 1, 2 and 3) but in this case soldering is required to connect the breakout module to the main module (soldering 4 wires to each filter unit).

Doepfer A-135-4A/B VC Performance Mixer Module (A+B)

Voltage controllable performance mixer module package
Notes: Series A-135-4 contains several modules which are used to built a voltage controlled performance mixer. The modules of the A-135-4 series can be combined with the (non voltage controlled) mixer modules A-138o/p.

A-135-4A:

A-135-4A is the main module. It is very similar to module A-138p, but with voltage control for all parameters (except gain). Also the front panels of A-135-4A and A-138p are very similar. The only difference are the additional LEDs which are used to display the magnitudes of all voltage controlled parameters. This is necessary because the positions of the manual controls do not necessarily correspond to the resulting parameter value because these are composed by both the manual controls and the applied external control voltages (via A-135-4B). Without LEDs one would be left in the dark in regard to the actual parameter value.

A-135-4A contains four high quality voltage controlled amplifiers (VCA) for each channel: one for the main level, two for panorama left/right and one for aux. The control scales for all parameters are linear. Altogether 16 VCAs are included in the module. High end linear VCAs manufactured by Curtis/USA are used (CEM3381). The 16 LEDs display roughly the amplification of the VCA in question.

Module A-138o is used as output module for the A-135-4A. A-135-4A and A-138p can be connected together to the same A-138o to obtain e.g. four fully voltage controlled channels (A-135-4A) and four manually controlled channels (A-138p).

A-135-4B:

This module is used to route the 16 external control voltage to the main module A-135-4A. These control voltages are available for each channel:

- Level (main loudness)
- Panorama
- Aux
- Mute

Each control voltage has an input socket and a polarizer control available (the polarizer function is described more detailed on the A-138c info page). That way it's possible to adjust the depth and polarity of the external control voltage which affects the parameter in question. If the same CV (e.g. LFO or ADSR) is used e.g. for two panorama control inputs the result may be the opposite if the polarizers are adjusted accordingly (i.e. one positive and the other negative). The external control voltage is added to the voltage that is generated by the manual control on the A-135-4A main module. The sum of both voltages is used to control the VCA in question and is displayed with the corresponding LED on the A-135-4A module. The picture on the left side below shows one channel of A-135-4A/B as block diagram.

The mute CV input works in principle in the same way as the level CV input but with reverse polarity and higher sensitivity (about factor -2). Typically, the mute polarizer control is adjusted fully CW. Then a (gate) voltage of ~ +2.5V or more fully mutes the channel in question. If the mute function is not used the mute CV input can be used as a second CV input for level (with twice the sensitivity and inverted polarity compared to the normal level CV input).

A-135-4A and A-135-4B are connected internally via a 20 pin ribbon cable. The cable can be longer so that the CV input module A-135-4B needs not to be mounted next to the main module A-135-4A (e.g. to the row above or below).

Modules A-135-4A and A-135-4B are available only as a module combo because the single operation of each module does not make sense!

Analogue sequencer for CV's & trigger/gates
Notes: The Doepfer A-155 has two CV rows, each with selectable voltage range, glide and sample & hold options. Three trigger rows and a one gate row. Logic inputs for clock, reset, start and stop. It's even possible to insert external signals per step instead, overriding the CV generated by the 2nd row's potentiometer. The A-155's functions can be expanded by the A-154 Sequencer Controller, as it's an entire control unit with step number limitation, voltage controllable clock generator, variable gate length and a number of playback modes.

Features of the analogue rows (knobs):

- 8 potentiometers (knobs)
- Lower row: Scale (knob), voltage output range 0 ... ~ +6,5V
- Upper row: 1V/2V/4V (octave range switch for exact VCO control), voltage output ranges 0 ...1.0V / 0 ...2.0V / 0 ...4.0V
- Glide time (knob), same as portamento or slew limiter
- Glide Control (control input for switching glide on/off)
- S&H Control (control input for internal S&H, works like A-148)
- Pre Glide/S&H-Out (analogue output before S&H and glide unit, especially required when external audio signals are used as inputs of the lower row)
- Post Glide/S&H-Out (analogue output after S&H and glide unit)
- Lower row: external inputs for the 8 steps (switched jack sockets), control signals or audio signals may be used as inputs (allowed voltage range -5V...+12V), the knobs of the lower row are working in this case as attenuators

Features of the trigger rows (switches):

- 4 Trigger/Gate tracks with 2 rows of switches
- Toggle switches of 1-0-1 type (with middle position), which can be used to send a trigger/gate to the track above or below or to send no trigger/gate (middle position)
- 3 trigger rows (i.e. short pulse for each step set, pulse width corresponds to the pulse width of the clock/step input signal)
- 1 gate row (i.e. a high signal is applied during the length of the step set)

Control inputs and buttons:

- Step (defines the tempo of the sequence, same as clock or trigger input)
- Reset (resets all rows to step 1)
- Start (starts the sequence at the momentary position)
- Stop (stops the sequence at the momentary position)

Step and Reset are compatible to the MIDI interface A-190, i.e. in combination with the A-190 the A-155 may be synchronized via MIDI. The quantizing module A-156 can be used to quantize the infinite analogue voltages coming from A-155 into discrete semitone steps (multiples of 1/12V). Without MIDI interface e.g. a LFO rectangle output can be used to define the tempo of the sequence.

The sequencer controller A-154 adds a lot of new functions to the A-155 (e.g. voltage controlled addressing, forward/backward/pendulum/random mode, voltage control of first and last step, voltage controlled clock and gate length, step skipping, combination of several A-155 in parallel/serial mode and many more).

Notes: Aqueduct is a vintage-inspired pitch vibrato with eight modulation modes delivering synth-like sonar pulses, touch-sensitive frequency modulation, gentle rolling pitch-wobbles, steady kosmische pulsations, rapid trills, slimy sonic squiggles, whammy bar wiggles, pitch bends, pseudo-flange, and anything else your pitch-warped brain can picture in your murky mind's eye.

Controls
The controls are simple. Rate (1) adjusts the LFO speed which controls how quickly the pitch rises and falls. Depth (2) controls the LFO amplitude, adjusting the intensity of the vibrato effect. The rotary switch labeled Mode (3) selects between one of eight LFO waveshape and envelope combinations which drastically alter the character of the modulation and make Aqueduct adaptable to nearly any musical situation.

Modes
Sine: The smoothest and most subtle of all waveforms, sine waves are most commonly associated with classic amp-like vibrato. Plug in, turn on, and commence the Chooglin'.

Triangle: Triangle waves have a sharper rise and fall than sine waves with a more pronounced pitch bend at the peak of each LFO cycle.

Ramp: Like a triangle wave with a twist. The Ramp waveform has a sharp sonar pulse followed by a rapid downward slope with a synthesizer-like sustain and release. This is where things start to get a little weird.

Square: Square waves are the most rigid and abrupt of the waveforms. Rather than gliding smoothly between pitches, square waves produce an instant on-or-off transition between notes. Use this mode for trills when you get tired of doing hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Random: This waveform isn't a waveform at all as much as it's a drunken master of modulation who slurs your notes into an unpredictable assortment of greasy pitch-bends before disappearing at last call and leaving you stuck with the tab. It has a "warped record" effect at low Depth settings and becomes sloppier and more randomized as you increase the Depth control.

Env D: This is Envelope-Controlled Depth mode. The waveshape is set to a sine wave, the speed of which may be adjusted using the Rate control. The Depth control sets the sensitivity of the envelope - the point at which the effect kicks in as you play. In this mode, your pick attack sets the intensity of the modulation. The harder you dig in, the more pronounced the effect. Try it during your next motorik jam.

Env R: This is Envelope-Controlled Rate mode. In this mode, the input level (i.e. pick attack) controls the LFO rate. The LFO uses a sine waveshape. Play harder for faster modulation or lay low for slower modulation speeds. The Rate control adjusts the sensitivity of the envelope. Depth selects the LFO intensity.

Env P: This is Envelope-Controlled Pitch mode, which has been lovingly nicknamed "The My Bloody Valentine setting". If your instrument doesn't have a tremolo bar, it does now. In this mode, the LFO is set to a sine waveshape, and frequency modulation is controlled by the dynamics of your pick attack and not the LFO. Do yourself a favor and try this one with Flexi-Switching™.
Depth sets the wet/dry mix. This is the only mode that contains a wet/dry mix and may be set to taste to create touch-sensitive dynamic vibrato, chorus, flanger, or tactile pitch drops. Full counterclockwise is all dry, full clockwise is all wet. With this control set to noon you will get a 50/50 mix with a small amount of phase cancellation.
Rate sets the sensitivity and overall range of the pitch bend.

Notes: Tides is all about waves that go up and down, from minute-long cycles to audio rates... This module is Mutable Instruments' unique take on the looping AD envelope generator - pushing this well-known trope to unknown territories.

The core of the module is a digital asymmetric triangle function generator, which can be used in AD and AR modes (for envelope generation), or looping (as a VC-LFO or VC-DO). The triangle generator is followed by a wavetable waveshaper providing linear, exponential, logarithmic, sinusoidal, or arc-sinusoidal shapes for the A and D segments. Then, a second processor applies either a 2-pole low-pass filter to the waveform, smoothing its sharp edges; or a rubbery wavefolder, adding kinks and "bounces" to the waveform. Notes: The TLM 103 is the ideal large diaphragm microphone for all professional and semi-professional applications requiring the utmost in sound quality on a limited budget.

By utilizing the tried and true transformer-less circuit found in numerous Neumann microphones, the TLM 103 features yet unattained low self-noise and the highest sound pressure level transmission. The capsule, derived from that used in the U 87, has a cardioid pattern, is acoustically well-balanced and provides extraordinary attenuation of signals from the rear.

Applications:
Due to the universal cardioid pattern, straightforward handling, extremely low self-noise level, and finally, the price, the TLM 103 is predestined for all demanding applications from home recording to professional broadcasting and commercial recording studios.

Polar pattern:
The TLM 103 is equipped with a large diaphragm capsule with cardioid pattern. By focusing on this pattern - used in most recording situations - the attenuation of unwanted rear sound has been optimized. Off-axis sounds are rendered naturally while isolation is increased. This also leads to a high feedback suppression when the microphone is used in live situations or where loudspeaker playback is a factor.

Acoustic features:
The TLM 103 is addressed from the front, marked with the red Neumann logo on the microphone body. The K 103 large diaphragm capsule is based on the K 87, well known from the U 67 / U 87 microphones. The capsule has a flat frequency response up to about 5 kHz, and above that, a wide flat 4 dB presence boost. The large wire mesh headgrille protects the capsule from plosive sounds and effectively prevents pop noises. These characteristics are achieved without resorting to corrective resonance effects. Therefore, the microphone maintains an excellent impulse response and reproduces the finest details of music and speech without coloration.

Electrical features:
With just 7 dB-A / 17.5 dB CCIR the self-noise level of the TLM 103 is so reduced that even the smallest signals are reproduced basically noise-free. As it is capable of handling sound pressure levels up to 138 dB without distortion, the TLM 103 provides a dynamic range of 131 dB (A-weighted). The letters TLM stand for "transformer-less microphone". With TLM technology the usual output transformer is replaced by an electronic circuit. As with traditional transformers, it ensures good common mode rejection, and prevents RF interference that may influence the balanced audio signal.

Operational safety:
The entire internal construction is elastically mounted to attenuate any structure borne noise that could interfere with the TLM 103's operation. Furthermore the capsule is set on an elastic mount. The frequency range reaches below 20 Hz and thus even very low bass signals are reproduced without coloration. Due to this low frequency extension, the TLM 103 is more sensitive to structure borne interference and wind noise. For such cases, the elastic suspension EA 1 and the windscreen WS 87 are available as accessories. For close vocal use, the PS 15 or PS 20 a pop screens are recommended.
