Tone aficionados kept telling Mike Matthews about a pedal that had achieved a lot of buzz because it was only obtainable at an exorbitant price. That pedal was the Klon Centaur.

A believer in bringing great tools to starving musicians, Mike tasked his trusty team to create an affordable alternative, and that is how the EHX Soul Food Transparent Overdrive was cooked up.

Notes: Electro-Harmonix has reissued their late-1970's era Op-Amp Big Muff Pi. Sometimes also referred to as the IC or V4 Big Muff, the original circuitry has been faithfully re-created while several practical enhancements have been added including a compact, die-cast chassis and true bypass switching.

According to Electro-Harmonix founder, Mike Matthews, "The Op-Amp Big Muff was popularized by the brilliant Billy Corgan who first used it on the Smashing Pumpkins' epic 1993 album Siamese Dream. After he was videotaped playing and talking about the reissue, Billy stated: "The magic's still in the box, I can still get what I'm looking for!"

The pedal relies on op-amps rather than transistors and three gain stages rather than four, to create its signature sound. It's a sound that's been described by noted Big Muff collector and historian, Kit Rae, as: "a huge, crushing Big Muff sound with more crunch...great for grungy, wall-of-sound distortion, heavy rhythm playing and heavy leads."

The Op-Amp Big Muff Pi features standard controls: Sustain, Tone and Volume, plus a Tone switch for bypassing the tone circuit. It comes equipped with a 9V battery or can be powered by an optional 9-volt AC adapter.

Notes: We took the Big Muff Pi circuit and simply shrunk it without changing its rich, creamy, violin-like sustain and sound!

We always recommend pedal-specific, transformer-isolated wall-wart power supplies or multiple isolated-output supplies. Pedals will make extra noise if there is ripple or unclean power. The Life Pedal V3 circuit has been meticulously tweaked from the original to squeeze every last drop of heavy crushing tone available. The octave section has been fine tuned to make it more pronounced without losing the bottom end and we added a third footswitch, utilizing Flexi Switch Technology, for the octave to allow an additional method of quick and radical tone shaping. We are excited to have this back in permanent production, it is a true labour of love.

Life Pedal V3 is a distortion with a blendable analogue octave up and a booster combined in one compact package. The "Amplitude" side is faithfully modelled after the classic "White Face" distortion unit, using modern, reliable components to last a lifetime. The only modifications made to the original circuit are in the clipping section. The traditional circuit uses a single pair of silicon diodes for a tight, compressed crunch.

As with version 2, Life Pedal V3 offers two additional clipping options to better adapt to different rigs. The first position is no diodes to allow for full, grinding Op Amp assault at maximum volume. The second position utilizes two silicon diodes and one LED in an asymmetrical clipping configuration. This delivers a slightly compressed and smooth crunch, similar to a valve amplifier.

The last position is the stock double silicon diode configuration which provides that classic tone you know and love. The Octave in Life Pedal is an all-discrete, analogue full-wave rectifier base on a classic vintage design. Located at the input of the circuit, the Octave control slowly blends in the octave effects as you turn it clockwise. This feature can also be used via expression control allowing for wild, hands-free octave swells mid-riff or using the footswitch for immediate octave fuzz destruction.

Because this is an analogue octave effect, it is monophonic and works best playing single notes above the twelfth fret while using the neck pickup. Playing chords with the analogue octave will sound clanging and chaotic.

Using the bridge pickup and playing below the twelfth fret will produce a very subtle octave effect. Going full Octave transforms Life Pedal from a simple distortion device into a swelling, raging fuzz similar to the classic Super Fuzz!

The "Magnitude" section of Life Pedal is a simple all-discrete MOSFET booster designed to blast your preamp tubes and drive them wild. It is a 100% clean, no-nonsense, high impedance booster that adds very little colour to your tone. It does not add distortion on its own but has plenty of output to push your amp into saturation.

The signal path goes Octave>Distortion>Boost. The octave distortion and booster can be used independently with their own respective foot switches. The Petrine Cross is the octave distortion and the Christian Cross is the booster.

Notes: Tweaking the platform of their Fault overdrive/distortion, Old Blood Noise have carved out room for greater gain range, voice control, and clipping options in the Fault Version 2. The Fault remains a great overdrive with footswitchable second gain stage and three band EQ, and now excels as a clean boost and tweakable high gain distortion as well.

Notes: The Germanium Filter is Death By Audio's love letter to sticking a pencil in your speaker.

Start with a console-style drive circuit, add in a dash of obsolete germanium transistors and finish it off with a super intense DBA-style filter - BLAMO! You've got a sound heavy enough to crush on and sharp enough to slice a tomato.

The Filter control is extremely unconventional - it'll take you from bottomless, sub-woofered out lows to super searing and brittle highs, with a universe of tone in between. The Germanium Filter will help you find the sweet spot for your instrument in any situation - at a show, in the studio, or even stranded on the side of the highway after your tour van catches fire - hey, it happens!

The Gain knob starts with a dirty boost that then spans through saturated drive, spitting distortion, and a blistering fuzz tone. Get ready for your sound to be cranked up to infinity-and-a-half and captured on tape by the most incredible recording engineer you've ever heard - only there's no engineer and no studio. Just you, your guitar, your amp and the Germanium Filter.

Notes: The Beam Splitter is a single pedal meant to create a massive sound. It is three different takes on overdrive, voiced to work together perfectly. Two of them can be delayed in time, and all three can be run in parallel or split out to three separate sources.

Beam Splitter takes a mono input and makes it wildly bigger than before. Things stretch in time and compress in dynamics, and a rich harmonic wash is achieved without sacrificing clarity.

To be washed in sound, does it have to be one big sound, or will a number of small sounds do the trick? To create a wall of sound, same question, but also how does it stay solid? How can sound waves make a wall, and is it just a moment in time; will it always crash down?

Why record your guitar thrice when Beam Splitter exists?

Beam Splitter is best seen in three sections - Purple, Green and Blue.

Purple is a hard-clipping distortion that can be seen as the core gain sound of Beam Splitter.

Of Beam Splitter's three gain sections, it is arguably the heaviest and most compressed. It has three controls, identified by their purple knobs and labels - Gain, Volume and Tone.

Green is an overdrive with both soft and hard clipping. It is the lightest and brightest of the three gain sections in Beam Splitter. Also featuring Gain, Volume controls the green gain circuit features a Time knob, which sets the delay time, up to 125 sections. When blended in parallel with the other drives, this delay time can create anything from tight comb filters to loose doubling delays to short slapback.

Additionally, there is a Decay knob, which sets the feedback of the delay, from one repeat up to many repeats trailing off. In comb filter settings this can increase resonance.

Blue is a transistor Overdrive and the most neutral and reactive of the three gain circuits, with a gain range somewhere in the middle. Its Gain switch sets the amount of breakup. In the down setting, it is less overdriven, with less compression in the mids and highs. In the up setting, it is more overdriven and aggressive. It also boasts Time and Decay controls, on top of the Tone and Volume knobs and gain switch.

The pedal's Deviate control is a shared knob that sets the amount of random variation in the delay time of the Blue and Green drive sections. The more it is turned up, the farther their delay times can deviate, and the faster those deviations happen. When at zero, the delay times are fixed, above zero, each Time knob sets that sections delay time.

Deviate intends to create a more realistic sense of doubled players, with random variations in timing as if you were playing to the track twice. It can also give the impression of flanging, chorusing or broken vibrato, depending on the settings.

The Expression jack is used to externally control the Deviate knob using a TRS expression devices with standard polarity and tip connected to the wiper.

Beam Splitter has a mono input. From there the signal goes out to Purple, Green and Blue drive sections in parallel. If only plugged into the Purple Out Jack, all three sections will join in parallel mono at that Output. Green and Blue can each be broken off into their own output by plugging into the corresponding Out jacks.

In this way you can have a full 'stereo' setup.

Calling a pedal legendary or a cult classic is often stretching the truth, but when it comes to the Boss HM-2 MIJ it's absolutely on the money. From its beyond brutal and grinding distortion tones, bands like Dismember and Entombed birthed Swedish chainsaw metal. While WURM 2 absolutely nails that death-metal sound, its thick walls of gain and sustain is not all about that genre the pedal is also adept for so many other styles, from Shoegaze to Prog Rock. EQ Section
Dead simple to operate, this tonally deep submergence vehicle offers three sub-octave settings to choose from.
These allow you to turn your guitar into a filthy bass guitar with ground shaking lows, alternatively adding extra depth to basses and mono synths alike. The toggle switch lets you select between either the first octave (-I), the second (-II) or mix both together (-I/-II) which gives you a thunderously massive wall of sound, it even changes colour depending on the mode.

EQ Style
For the WURM pedal, we developed our own EQ stack and added an internal EQ STYLE switch to help you carve out additional tonal variations. In WURM 2, this is now on the front of the pedal to make it easier to access and for even more tonal options on-the-fly. Selecting HM-II mode will get you that classic 'chainsaw' High-Mids character.
However, in KMA mode the EQ is a little more tonally balanced, less peaky and a bit wider in response. If balanced and less peaky sounds too boring for you, select BOTH to fatten and double up the tone stacking, letting you ramp up the LOWS and the H-MIDS and rip that Swedish forest completely to shreds!
With all of this extra tone shaping, the pedal can sometimes begin to feedback at extreme settings. So, if this proves too much and to help tame that high-frequency content, we added a new internal control to smoothen things out. By flipping the dip-switch to activate the input filter, this will help to tame the high frequencies when absolutely everything is maxed out.

Walrus Audio give you the two most quintessential effects that yield unruly amounts of power and influence to an instrumentalist: reverb and distortion. They have been harnessed and woven together for an eternity of ethereal power with The Melee: Wall of Noise. The Melee unapologetically uses a joystick to meld reverb and distortion into one massive blaze of sound. With the flip of the order switch, run the distortion into the reverb or reverb into distortion; signal chain is your call now. For the explorer, the Melee can run one of three different reverb programs Ambient, Octave, and Reverse.

In a less is more approach, Walrus Audio have intentionally decided on controls that are fun to use and will inspire a wealth of creative output. Use the joystick to control the amount of distortion by moving it up and down. Moving the joystick left and right will adjust your reverb mix. The tone and decay toggles have low, medium, and high settings. Modulation can be added to the wet signal by holding down the bypass switch and moving the decay toggle. The left position is no modulation, the middle is a slight modulation, and the right is a high modulation.

Algorithms

The Melee is equipped with three different reverb programs, which can be changed by simultaneously pressing the bypass and sustain stomp switches. Experiment with the order toggle switch to hear how differently these all react in front and after the distortion!

Ambient Reverb (Pink LED) - Huge reverb capable of massive trails and engulfing your chords into an angry wash of sound. Great for soaring melodic lines or shoegaze-driven chord progressions.
Octave Down Reverb (Yellow LED) - Similar to the Dark mode in the Slo, you'll find an eerie lower octave hovering in the reverb trail for a nice and dark atmospheric touch.
Reverse Reverb with Feedback (Blue LED) - Add reversed reverb trails back into your signal, create gentle melodies or push into reverse feedback overload. Big, slow, and sad chords love to hang out here.

Momentary

Press and hold the sustain switch to ramp up the reverb trails. Release and the trails will ramp back down to where the decay switch is currently set. The sustain switch can also latch in all three programs. Press and release the Sustain switch to capture and sustain the current reverb decay for long pad-like sounds in your wet mix. Press again to release the latch, and the reverb trail will taper off based on the position of the decay knob.

The EHX Pico Triboro Bridge is a tri-mode drive box with a wide range of tonal possibilities. Featuring Overdrive, Distortion, and Fuzz modes, it bridges any gap in your gain. With a powerful EQ, input contouring, and a pico-sized footprint, the Triboro Bridge can be your tonal keystone or a welcome change from the routine drive.

Starting with Overdrive mode, the gain spectrum ranges from low to mid with an open voicing that can be used as a light always on drive or a solo boost. Genre-Defining Distortion

By using a hybrid of circuits, we created truly unique pre-amp and power tube distortion characteristics. You'll be amazed to hear the warm, organic tone that's reproduced. Brownie has a specially designed BJT input stage causing it to "break-up" when the preamp tube starts to distort. It also has an asymmetrical clipping circuit letting you simulate some of the characteristics of an actual tube amplifier. They have been harnessed and woven together for an eternity of ethereal power with The Melee: Wall of Noise. The Melee unapologetically uses a joystick to meld reverb and distortion into one massive blaze of sound. With the flip of the order switch, run the distortion into the reverb or reverb into distortion; signal chain is your call now. For the explorer, the Melee can run one of three different reverb programs Ambient, Octave, and Reverse.

In a less-is-more approach, Walrus have intentionally decided on controls that are fun to use and will inspire a wealth of creative output. Use the joystick to control the amount of distortion by moving it up and down. Moving the joystick left and right will adjust your reverb mix. The tone and decay toggles have low, medium, and high settings. Modulation can be added to the wet signal by holding down the bypass switch and moving the decay toggle. The left position is no modulation, the middle is a slight modulation, and the right is a high modulation.

Algorithms

The Melee is equipped with three different reverb programs, which can be changed by simultaneously pressing the bypass and sustain stomp switches. Experiment with the order toggle switch to hear how differently these all react in front and after the distortion!

Ambient Reverb (Pink LED) - Huge reverb capable of massive trails and engulfing your chords into an angry wash of sound. Great for soaring melodic lines or shoegaze-driven chord progressions.
Octave Down Reverb (Yellow LED) - Similar to the Dark mode in the Slo, you'll find an eerie lower octave hovering in the reverb trail for a nice and dark atmospheric touch.
Reverse Reverb with Feedback (Blue LED) - Add reversed reverb trails back into your signal, create gentle melodies or push into reverse feedback overload. Big, slow, and sad chords love to hang out there.

Momentary

Press and hold the sustain switch to ramp up the reverb trails. Release and the trails will ramp back down to where the decay switch is currently set. The sustain switch can also latch in all three programs. Press and release the Sustain switch to capture and sustain the current reverb decay for long pad-like sounds in your wet mix. Press again to release the latch, and the reverb trail will taper off based on the position of the decay knob.

Hard or Soft Clipping: The Super Rodent gives you both styles of diode clipping. Diodes are used to create hard clipping distortions or smooth overdrive sounds. If the Clipping Switch is in the RT Position it features Hard Diode Clipping which is an edgier, more aggressive tone. When the Clipping Switch is in the SD Position that uses Soft Diode Clipping, like a softly overdriven tube amplifier.

Buffered and True Bypass

The Keeley Super Rodent features our Jfet buffer for noise free switching. Keeley have developed an amazing sounding buffer which not only makes your rig sound better, it gives you silent switching with no tone loss.
No more pops and clicks to distract from your music. If you prefer true bypass, simply press and hold down the foot switch for two seconds and the LED will flash twice to indicate success. True Bypass is great for players that want the effect of plugging directly into their amp when the pedal is off.

Alternatively, players that want a strong and clear signal whether the Super Rodent is on or off, simply hold the stomp switch down for two seconds and the effect is back to Buffered Bypass (LED flashes three times). Enjoy truly silent switching and let your music be the only voice.

Keeley crammed two legendary distortion and fuzz circuits into one stompbox and gave you two new sounds in the process. It's sort of like pedal-modeling except these are 100% old-school, analogue circuits and you decide which tone control or clipping section you want to rock.

Heavily saturate your guitar through either a legendary '78 Japanese Orange Distortion or a '91 Soviet Civil War Fuzz. Use the Angry Orange to make your own fuzzztortions with the hybrid modes, all with only three simple knobs.

This pedal can be True Bypass or Buffered Bypass, it only takes two seconds to switch between the modes. The Keeley Angry Orange is entirely manufactured at Keeley Electronics and is in the new aluminium enclosure.

Switchable Tone Stacks - Swap Voicings

The Blues Disorder gives you two tone control circuits to choose from. When the Tone Switch is down and in the OC position you will hear an active midrange boost and then the tone control rolls off high-frequency. If the Tone Switch is up and in the BB position you don't have the active mid boost, there's just a simple high-frequency filter and therefore a more transparent sounding overdrive and response.

Switchable Diodes - Hybrid Gain Clipping

The Blues Disorder gives you both styles of diode clipping. Where diodes are placed in the circuit, can have a dramatic effect on gain and compression. This pedal gives you both hard clipping distortion or soft clipping overdrive, depending on the position of the Drive Toggle.
