Review: Opening their doors every Saturday for mind-altering shock treatment, Power Station has been giving their raging punters a potent dose of megawatt reality. Their curatorial expertise has established an institution that will now extend the mythical energy generated with a record label in the form of annual limited 12"/digital compilations, grouping tracks that have already become the club's signature tunes. Resident, booker and co-founder Kris Baha finds himself on both sides of the inaugural disc, with the ball of confusion solo production 'Something Something, and again as Heavy Concern in collaboration with Otologic's Nick Murray, a name synonymous with the Melbourne club circuit being one quarter of the Animals Dancing massive. Young gun Disrute captures the optimum warm up set with the shape shifting slow burner 'Ka-Bu' while scene veteran and Haul Music boss Mike Callander discovers a new lab mutation of sci-fi soundtrack, damaged funk and cerebral house.
Review: Freshly-formed French trio BOA - aka Behzad, Ohes and Amarou - wrap themselves around the new decade and squeeze tightly. Joining forces with decorated French musician Mathieu Deranlot, they present four far-ranging deep electronic and ambient techno explorations that range from the dramatic-yet-beatless "Nitro" to the brooding, swampy slo-mo electrofunk of "Lumiere Electronique". Elsewhere "Merci Pierre" teases and squeezes even tighter with its trippy triplets and sudden dive into deep dream synths before "Bonne Nuit" closes on another ambient tip, this time switching the urgency for lullaby arpeggios. Sweet dreams.
Review: Not On Earth's first release sold out in quick time - unsurprising given the reputation of Frankfurt based founders Bodin & Jacob. Their second is a various artists affair that shows off some of the talents they have unearthed, while Bodin also reappears with "A Walk In The Park." It's a brilliantly militant cut with clipped, marching beats and rasping bass squelches, and elsewhere Philipp Boss opens the EP with the slippery electro rhythms of "Lava". Griezman's "Decheterie" is an uptempo bit of proper first wave tech house a la Terry Francis. Closing out this more than handy EP is the hard edged electro-tech of "Zoober" from Martyne.

Review: Following an excellent EP from Memphis, Animals On Psychedelics returns with more weird and wonderful party fare from the outer reaches. This time it's a various artists release that brings together all the producers involved in the label so far, while also introducing BPMF to the fold with the woozy, rubbery synth shapes of "Liza On Clouds." Jane Fitz and Dom Ahtuam's Invisible Menders project presents the rolling, psyched out melodics of "Three On Three," while Memphis pushes further into experimental territory with the wonderfully fractured "Altered States." That leaves it to Miro SundayMusiq to complete the EP with the wave-meets-Italo tones of "From Behind The Corner," a perfectly noirish flourish to finish a sterling record.
Review: Material by London duo Astrud Steehouder and Nina Bosnic, aka Finders Keepers duo Paper Dollhouse, gets pulled into new rhythmic shapes by Joe Cocherell and Montalk on this compelling record for Resilience. Given his background as drummer in DVA Damas and propulsive techno output on Frozen Border, Cocherell is well placed to reinterpret "Space III" as eleven minutes of kraut addled techno that you could easily visualise James Holden closing out a Sonar performance with. Complementing this, Resilience's in-house mystery production unit Montalk take a more abstract approach to "Drone 1", submerging the vocals of Paper Dollhouse in all manner of spectral delay on a remix that forgoes rhythm in favour of all encompassing atmosphere.
Review: While the title of Hivern Discs' excellent "Fragments" series may suggest a kind of odds-and-ends approach to A&R, each of the four volumes to date has been anything but sketchy and throwaway. This fifth instalment is every bit as alluring as its predecessors. Check first Cooper Saver's clandestine chugger "Tell" - all druggy modular vibrations, echoing Horror organs and foreboding chords - before turning your attention to the tuneful Boards Of Canada style lead lines and sparse, lo-fi house beats of Pional's "Purple". Arguably even better is the stripped-back, acid-driven headiness of Marc Pinol's "Vol De Nit", while Velmondo's "Transubstantiation" is a fine slo-mo freak out full of devilishly pitched-down drums, weirdo electronics and synthesized marimba melodies.
Review: For Finitude Music's 5th release, label owner Marcel Heese and Alexander Kowalski aka d_func. share their visions on ""Thought Control"".
Both tracks on the EP harbour the same intent, but each of them approaches it in a different way. d_func.'s take revolves around Sahko-like bleeps - if you are into early Mika Vainio or Sleeparchive - look no further! But instead of being loopy, it's definitely a builder. Its original trance track-like structure is sure to rock many an underground dancefloor.
Marcel's vision is slower and less straight-forward but creates and maintains a high tension. Based on dense a bassline and intricate soundscapes, it builds up slowly, only to explode halfway through. An extra payoff also comes at the very end of a track - its noise/ambient outro making a perfect way to wrap up an amazing party at 8AM somewhere deep in the heart of Berlin.
Review: "Abyssopelagic" is the third release on Tresor Berlin resident Marcel Heeses label Finitude Music. This time he teamed up with d_func. aka legendary Berlin producer Alexander Kowalski who has been around for almost 20 years and surely needs no further introduction. The title track is a slow piece of nautical Techno aiming at the bigger floors. As the title suggests the B-Side includes a stripped-down version of "Abyssopelagic" for the deeper moments on the floor.
Review: "Patience" is Finitude Musics fourth release. Once again label boss Marcel Heese teamed up with d_func. aka Alexander Kowalski. Most people will surely remember his classics on labels such as Tresor Records or Kanzleramt. The Jeff Mills influence can't be denied on the A-Side. Remix on B-Side comes from up-and-coming Portuguese producer Lewis Fautzi (Soma, Figure) who has turned "Patience" into a 303-laden floorbomb.

Review: Crayon take another trip into the realm of deep house with this split 12" from a range of talented individuals. D'Funk takes a little lick from Roy Ayers on "Follow Me" and frames the sample in spooky keys carried along by a sturdy four-to-the-floor thump. Adam Collins and Mark Ambrose get a bit freakier on "Modern Moule", using all kinds of oddball sounds to whip up a decidedly off-kilter mood. D'Funk's "Break For Jungle" takes a few cues from the hardcore continuum, and places them in the context of an uptempo house workout, and then Mark Ambrose completes the set with the amped up old-skool techno energy of "Machine Man".
Review: This March, the New York City-based imprint Absence Seizure will see its joint founders Abe Duque and Matuss join forces once more to deliver 'Seizure No. 11', following up on their recent collaborative effort 'Seizure No. 10' with another four tracks of soulful, stripped-down techno.
