Their latest EP - another must-check release - comes from someone who comfortably sits in the second camp: long-serving British techno, ambient and IDM futurist Kirk Degiorgio. As usual, Degiorgio has delivered some effortlessly melodious, emotive and immersive fare. For proof, check 'All About You', where sparkling synth-pop melodies, layered electronics and dreamy pads rise above a groove inspired by Motor City futurism and Latin rhythms. That Latin influence comes to the fore on the gorgeous, percussive and picturesque techno bliss of 'Cidad Do Futuro', while 'Frayed Edge' is a deep and melody-rich slab of electro excellence.

Review: The much loved llian crew reverts to its Skee Series here and serves up more magic from Skee Mask aka Munich mainstay Bryan Muller. He has roasted pretty exclusively here and never fails to innovate with each new drop. This one again hits the mark across seven elastic techno cuts that are underpinned by lovely dub weight and propelled by tight, pinging kicks. 'Dachtekker' is lit up with hi-tek soul synths straight from Detroit, 'Double Standard' is deliciously deep and driving with swirling pads smeared around up top and 'Small Stone S700' manages to pair soul-drenched chords full of subtle joy with kinetic drum programming that makes you want to move. Review: Jeff Mills continues to gift us some utterly astounding house-tempered work from the Millsart project on this latest 12". Neo Tantric Parts draws from the deep well of Millsart archives, with 'Tear Drop Nebula' especially benefitting from a new mix as it shuffles percussion and vibraphone chimes around microtonal cascades which give the music a particularly giddy quality. 'The Phonetic World' has a punchy presence without losing that lighter style Mills adopts under this alias, while 'Neptunian Landing' heads into spookier territory with some faithful 909 hats for guidance. Watch out for 'Unidentified' though, a truly tweaked-out slice of space lounge gear for watching the walls of you mind melt after one too many solar flares.

Review: Introducing Diner's Club International, a new and anonymous collective, we have been told on the low down, that is here to keep clubs bumping. They hail from Joy Rd on the East of the city of Detroit and are here to keep the ghetto tech scene going strong with a vast array of breathless new rhythms across three different records. Their MO is to get in and out quickly with each track - short, snappy sketches packed with attitude, cut-up vocals and spongy drum and bass patterns. As physical as all these cuts are, they also have a real human heart thanks to the warming pads and well-deployed r&b stabs. These are red hot so do not sleep.

Review: The latest from Steve O'Sullivan and Mosaic's archive-raiding series sees the first ever airing of an unreleased extended mix of the soft and soul-drenched 'Composure', plus two choice selections on the flip - the sleek sub-bass powered 'She Don't Do Chicks' and a dub mix of the equally streamlined 'Bumper Car'. If the A-side is a luxurious period piece of sorts - it could be related to Underground Resistance's 'Galaxy 2 Galaxy' for instance - then two on the other side could have been made yesterday they're so relevant and playable, coasting along with the kind of subtly jacking framework and dubby basslines that G Man made his own. Review: Club Night Club is a new Brooklyn label born out of an event series, and they're positioning themselves squarely in the leftfield of the contemporary techno scene with a wild EP from the lesser-spotted Herron. The Manchester-based artist has slipped out a few scattered releases over the past six years, from EPs on the meandyou label he helps run, and one big drop for Peder Mannerfelt's label. This fierce return to the fray shows the producer pushing a tough yet supple strain of mutant, stepped techno with soundsystem blood pumping in its veins. It's ludicrously high-end, swimming in needlepoint sound design and yet still rough as hell, and it comes very highly recommended.

Review: Swedish producer Ola Obergman has been at the top of his game for over 20 years now, dropping superb electro on the finest labels. Last year he dropped a fantastic full-length album on Pariter, but now steps up to Infiltrate with a direct dance floor offering. 'Norma Cluster' pairs busy drums and bass with more atmospheric leads before 'Invariant Hyperbola' has a perfectly crisp boom-bap that is run through with synth sequences that get your head amongst the stars. 'Sterile Neutrino' is more raw and ragged with another irresistible rhythm and 'Dragonfly44' closes in a thoughtful fashion.

Review: We don't know who is involved in this brand new Diner's Club International project but we do know that they have put together three superb new records, all of which are landing at the same time. We also know they have come from Detroit, specifically Joy Rd on the West Side, and so come drenched in plenty of the swaggering attitudes you would expect. Diners Club International Part 1 fuses electro, ghetto and techno into booty-shaking cuts designed square for the club. Review: If you love a good old game of musical guess who then get your ears around this, the second of three Diner's Club International records that dropped on our laps under a shroud of mystery. All we have been told about the project is that is a collective of artists from Joy Rd on the West Side of Detroit who are keeping the city's rich ghetto tech traditions alive. The tracks on this, Part 3, are all super short but super compelling - elements of juke, footwork and electro make up the bumping rhythms with smart r&b samples and diffuse synth soul all adding heartfelt charm to the irresistible dancefloor chaos.

Review: Frame Of Mind has been one of the best techno and house labels in the past couple years hailing from the Netherlands. This is the second appearance for Synaptic Voyager on the label in total. 'Epoch Ten' exhibits a premier example of the quality ambient techno the label has released in recent years. Fans of As One, FBA, Stasis and Sensurreal are sure to gravitate toward this track in particular. The 90s Detroit vibe is here in many respects. 'Ne Plus Ultra' and 'Reverie' are perfect tributes to the lineage there. The robot funk in 'Milestone' is particularly exciting with this early 90s styled foray into UK techno while 'Parallax' gives off a heavy Innovator and early Warp label impressions. If you are a fan of ambient techno then this is a quick and easy pickup.

Review: Kirk Degiorgio has made countless great records - including a number of fine full-length excursions - under the As One alias, but few remain as timeless and future-proof as Reflections, his 1994 debut album. Rooted in a mixture of stargazing Detroit techno, futurist electro and UK techno trends of the period (think ambient techno, bleep and what Mixmaster Morris dubbed 'intelligent techno', much to irritation of artists whose music didn't fit that descriptor), the album offers an enticing mix of slow-motion headphone music, intergalactic-sounding experiments, after-hours gems and full-throttle dancefloor workouts. This 30th anniversary edition naturally sparkles sonically thanks to some superb remastering, making it an essential purchase for all those who love emotive, grown-up electronic music.

Review: Egyptian artist Raxon continues to make big waves with his widescreen astral techno. He has often landed on Maceo Plex's Ellum Audio label land that is where he returns now with another club-ready two tracker that is designed to make for some epic moments in big spaces. Opener 'Mantis' has heavy, churning drums and plenty of twitchy synths, turbo-charged sci-fi stabs and cosmic intentions. On the flip is 'Input Robot', a bouncy bit of elastic techno with more jostling drum work and plenty of astral synths make it an expansive groove. This one marks another big outing from this ever evolving artist.

Review: This reissue of Underground Resistance's seminal Nation 2 Nation LP is a significant moment; the group's messages of liberation and resistance feel as relevant as ever, not least given the reivisionist concept behind this EP. Perhaps, though, we should resist chinstroking too much; for the original liner notes of this seminal release criticize the over-intellectualization of characteristically African American art forms such as house, hip-hop, jungle and jazz. Even so, this 1991 classic stands as tall as ever, with sax contributions from Lenny Price helping to explore exactly what jazz would sound like if it had originated with the analogue gear that was available to UR's members, decades later.

Review: For big-room techno, there are few finer labels out there right now - or ever - than Adam Beyer's monstrous Drumcode. The boss himself dropped a huge EP not so long ago and now turns to Space 92 for the latest aural assault. The artist serves up just two tracks but both are hugely weaponised affairs, starting with 'Time.' It is lacerated by gurgling synth lines that fire across its face like lasers, while the rolling beats and edgy stabs all build the tension. On the flip is 'Voyager' which is an acid-laced pumper with non-stop drum funk and flat-footed kicks to make huge club rooms march as one.

Review: Ukrainian producer Yan Cook continues his working relationship with Delsin as he throws down a formidable, focused strain of techno aimed squarely at peak time. 'Balance Point' is a razor-sharp workout in the Robert Hood tradition, with more than enough heft to move a big space, while 'Collateral Damage' follows a similarly laser-eyed premise. 'Late Night Kyiv' has a slightly softer approach thanks to its fluid synth lines and groovier rhythm section, while 'Pulsar' opts for a psychoactive tone to tweak the synapses in a masterful display of techno engineering.

Review: Jerome Hill is having a fine year - back in February he turned out his superb Flow Mechanics album on Hypercolour and now he is back on Super Rhythm Trax with a fire four-track electro and house outing. The opener 'The Warning' is a prickly one with acidic lines and raw, chattering claps making for a menacing vibe. 'Harlesden Shuffle' (extended 12" Disco mix) is then a wonky disco-tinged minimal cut with Wagon Repair-style synth leads and plenty of acid stabs. There is plenty of bite to the jacked-up B-side cut 'Combustion Zone' then 'House Thing' rounds out with early Chicago vibes, dusty drums and naughty basslines.

Review: Groovin Italy landed a monumental reissue for the label with C'hantal's 'The Realm'. Originally released way back in 1990 on the dance and early Brooklyn based Powertraxx records. Staying true to the original release, it offers the 'Love In D Minor' mix but does one better in tucking in the Acapella version to the A-side so the B-side 2 versions have a little more room to breathe. The added bonus has to be putting on the more rare "Wild Club mix' to the party along with the original 'Rave Mix'. All and all, a very packed reissue of some of the best versions of the track, all on one record. This might just hold the number one spot for best techno reissue so far of 2024.

Review: Without a doubt, one of the most anticipated reissue compilations of the year is this collection of Future Sound of London side projects. In 2007 this was a CD-only compilation of early 90s tracks as well as unreleased ones from the same age. As the lore of FSOL continues to grow over the past 30+ years, their side projects have gotten more and more attention from the people who love those early rave sounds. Now for the first time, a vinyl version of it with no less than a 3x12 to harness all this early 90s techno goodness. All the tracks are by Dougans and Cobain and the aliases are the same. This 2007 album however has a wealth of new material from the same time period as Earthbeat. It is amazing that one release like this by two producers can be such a prime example of the UK sound that changed dance music forever. If you want the 90s UK rave reissue of the year, here it is!

Review: Fresh from a surprise - but no less surprisingly sublime - appearance on Timedance, Ploy returns home to the Deaf Test imprint he set up as a vehicle for his productions back in 2022. As usual, what's on offer is a fresh-but-nostalgic set of cuts full of audible nods to heavyweight dancefloor styles of the 90s. The A-side boasts two top-notch takes on 'Vortex': the bleep-and-breaks style sub-heavy shuffle of the 'Stripped Mix' and the early 90s UK techno heaviness of the more expansive 'Busy Mix'. Over on side B, trippy and energy-packed throb-job 'In Your Head' is followed by the moody bass propelled breakbeat house of 'Eyes On You' and the early Orbital-esque excellence of 'Sending'.

Review: Three distinctly outer space-themed cuts from Greece's Alex Celler, each with a linear minimal/tech skeleton that has other, interloping musical influences draped elegantly and classily across it. 'Ancient Astronuats' has the weird, wired mystical stirrings of early Black Dog about it, complete with melting, bendy electro notations that coax it along and add a psychedelic dimension. 'Stargate To Cosmos' has a playful, Drexciyan feel to it, with crunchy, organic drum beats flirting alongside the more rigid electrics. 'Object In The Sky' is the most minimal of the pack, sleek and stalker-like, but still contains enough action - mainly floating around up there in the ether - to hold and build attention.

Review: Ohm and Octal Industries debuted on this label to great acclaim back in 2022 and now they're back on Lempuyang with Northwest Passage, a first album-length collaboration. This double 12" continues with their themes of failed arctic explorations and mythological creatures and, after 12 previous outings together, might be their best work yet: the sounds are mature and powerful, bleak yet deep. Dubbed-out chords roll to infinite horizons, frozen tundras are detailed with wispy melodies and pulsing, supple techno both soothes the soul and gets the head nodding. This is more stylish, subversive and superbly executed electronic music.

Review: Privacy bounds into a tenth year of releasing with labels like Klakson, Klasse Wrecks and Cultivated Electronics already under his belt, and now it's the turn of Trust to carry the goods. The goods, as we've come to expect, are high-grade electro and techno with vintage synthesis at their heart. '+(82)' isn't a purely retro track though, but rather it takes a classic Detroit approach and gives it certain discoid shimmer which works a treat. 'Sword, NYC' is a nastier slice of down-low machine funk, while 'Ikebukuro Underground' explores techy 140 in outstanding style. 'Meduse' offers some light relief to play the record out in a more delicate kind of electro style.

Review: Border One is an alias for Steven Petit, who has been exploring tough, tunnelling techno since 2015 and taking in prominent labels like Wolfskuil, Token and Voltage along the way. Now he makes a return to SK_Eleven with four formidable workouts pitched towards the most serious of dancefloors. Just listen to the creeping drones sweeping through the middle distance on 'Optical Void' and you'll know this record is no laughing matter. 'Inner Sight' is possibly the most psychoactive track on the EP thanks to its relentlessly looping synth phrases, but in fairness each and every one of these tracks will work wonders when you want to get everyone locked in good and proper.

Review: Detroit house hero Kyle Hall returns with his biggest project in some time in the form of Transmissions, a new double album on his own well-regarded Forget The Clock. All six tracks have enigmatic, functional titles and the music is as idiosyncratic as ever. Each one veers more towards techno than is Hall's usual style, with pulsating synth lines and tight, dusty drum tracks making for stripped-to-the-bones grooves. Later on, things grow ever more abstract with twisted acid lines screwing their way through the increasingly ragged and roughshod drums. These are perfectly imperfect jams from a master of the form.

Review: Innershades has always dealt in lo-fi, misty sounds that are steeped in beauty and melancholy and offer plenty of subtle homages to Detroit. Here he cooks up more electro magic on the Explorer EP, which is again minimalistic in design but maximal in terms of dancefloor impact. His melodies really convey true emotional pain and the drums bring sleek electro energy and brilliance. 'Unknown Depths' is a serene one to open with, 'Explorer' brings some acid modulations and extra percussive snap and 'Aquaculture' is the most liquid and dubby cut here. 'Super 6' has a sense of hope for the future in its brighter, more optimistic melodies. Exceptional stuff.

Review: Greek label Ethos is all new and says that it aims to "present music from carefully curated artists that are consistent and true to their sound regardless of the current trends or hype." For their all-important inaugural release, they serve up a limited edition, hand-numbered hand-stamped 12" from Leonid who brings plenty of deep Detroit stylings. 'Diurnal Drift' opens with mid-tempo drums and loose analogue percussion in a dusty and dubby cavern, then 'Elliptical Orbit' is a serene and late-night horizontal groove. There is real musical craft in the lush chords and jazzy leads of 'Parallel Paths' while 'Eastern Horizon' sets down with a more raw and driving sound but still has a warm lo-fi glow.

Review: Well, we must admit that we never foresaw Luke Slater and Dubfire coming together on the same 12". Both enjoy lofty statuses in the tech world but at very different ends of the spectrum - Slater the always underground head who keeps it futuristic and fresh, Dubfire someone happy to play to vast crowds in the more commercial side of the scene. But their work here is faultless. 'The Dissent' is a psychedelic roller for the dead of the night. 'The Sonic Assassin' plunges you deep into the cosmos with its pulsing synths, bass and bells, and 'The Drama' is a meaningful and widescreen cut permitted by fantastic synth designs.

Review: Jumpin' & Pumpin' looks back into the seminal archives of The Future Sound of London here to reissue their fantastic The Pulse EP from 2008 which also featured tunes from Manchester pair Indo Tribe. It is they who start with 'Bring In The Pulse' which features some Happy Mondays hallelujahs, mad rave whistles and bristling electronic breaks. 'In The Mind Of A Child' (First Born mix) is then a bouncy techno cut with more visceral synth and acid lines and The Future Sound Of London kick off the flipside with 'Hardhead' (Frothin' At The Mouth mix) which is an assault of breaks, congas, whistles and rave signifiers. 'Pulse State' (831 AM mix) is that perfect tune to zone out to on a late night drive on the motorway.

Review: Spray is an alias for Berlin-based Irish producer Tiarnan McMorrow. In the past couple of years he's been building up his own Spray label with releases from Dimensions 23, Drua, Anoesis and Marijn S. In the meantime, his own productions have been carried by Craigie Knowes and Kalahari Oyster Cult, so you should be clear on where his sonic interests lie. This is trancey tech house which tips more heavily towards trance than the average dabbler, not least on the piano soaked bombast of 'OT Rails' which should have you reaching skywards before there's even whiff of the first drop.

Review: Aniara is a label that ostensibly deals in deep house but you will never hear a standard tune on any of their releases. There is always an innovative sense of melody or intriguing balance between drive and emotion in everything they put out. Next to prove that point is Chefone with Storm. The title track opens up with a dubbed-out cut that is backed by the celestial glow of an angelic pad. Glistening shards of light also puncture the groove to make for something delightfully unusual. 'Hondo' takes up the whole of the flip with a heavy but mid-tempo deep house rhythm embellished with wispy pads and flickering static.

Review: A new project based out of Copenhagen - Aether's Spring comes shrouded in mystery but makes a bold statement with this first transmission. WATER: Dancing Moon 12" leads in with "House In Blue Rain," a downcast track bathed in melancholic pads and blown out percussion around a steady 4/4 tick. "Dancing Moon" is a more kinetic affair that works with all kinds of synth shapes alongside some primal drum machine percussion that lends the track a new wave quality that suits it just fine. Closer "Throne Of Clay" spreads across the B side in a brooding, journeying epic fit for the likes of classic James Holden or a more wave-minded Jon Hopkins.

Review: Rodhad's WSNWG imprint welcomes back the boss man for another great collaborative EP in the form of 'Kallait.' It is the result of some special sessions the two shared when Berlin-based live performer Peryl headed to Rodhad's studio between February and August of 2023. 'Kallait 01' is the opener and is a driving, hard-hitting techno cut with writing synth menace keeping you on edge. 'Kallait 02' is no less high-pressure with its roaming pads and snappy drum and snare combos. On the flpside, there's the dubby, well-swung 'Kallait 03' and more glitchy and percussive darkness of 'Kallait 04' to complete a very handy EP.

Review: Steve O'Sullivan invites a trio of artists to lay down some serious head nodding beats for 'Rhythm Method Vol.4'. Calling on one of Canada's trusted talents and solid purveyors of deep grooves Jay Tripwire leads the charge with 'Mung Bean Medley'. There's simply no messing: pushing through a taught rhythmic workout, incessant toms and metallic tones etch deep into the mood - awash with dubbed out atmospherics and crafty touches that more than a give a nod to the dark house dubs of yesteryear. On the flip, 'Hidden Sequence' inject their creative flex, demonstrating the all important art of minimalist bounce with 'Synchro'. The kind of fully swung beats and tripped out twinges that brighten the groove more often than not when 7am comes calling. The svelte bustle and soothing tones of 'Makka' from Fletcher by contrast, soothe the mind and leaves plenty of room to kick back as weary limbs take their toll: a fine tonic indeed.

In 'Binary Riddim' Steve delivers a two-part dub track spanning >13 minutes, seriously heavy in the low end; melancholy strings in the first half, progressing to outright menacing chord stabs in the latter. A versatile track offering something for both warm-up and the dancefloor. Complimenting on the flip are 'Mystic Light' and 'Lunar Eclipse' from Hydergine. Deep, dubby atmospherics meander over a weighty 909 kick on B1. Subtle minimalism a la Terrence Dixon, pitched down on B2. Essential release!

Review: We'd be hard pushed to think of any labels out there right now that are doing a better job of serving up deliciously deep and detailed dub techno than Echo LTD. For this one, the in house crew takes care of a pair of sublime new sounds that take you to the ocean floor and keep you there. 'Echo From The Outer World' opens with gently echoing chords pacing about the mix over a rolling and rubbery low end with shards of light beaming down from above as if the sun has just shone through some clouds. 'Minimalism In Dub' takes things back even further with more liquid rhythms and smooth drum rotations. So good.

Review: Neapolitan duo Fireground have been on a rapid ascent since debuting on Tresor in 2021, and following their Recreation 12" earlier this year they return to Ilian Tape for a second round of immersive, high-pressure techno soul. Review: A part-posthumous reunion of a longstanding collaboration between two titans of German ambient, Move D and the late Pete Namlook hear three of their most enduring classics reissued via Away Music. Drawing on slightly different traditions - D hailing from sophisti-minimal and Namlook a denizen of the more beatless, heavenly ambient and trance flaunted on his FAX label - the pair almost always produced an unmistakable style together, mired in many-a hazy, padded cloud and modular texture. These hallmarks are on full display here with 'Hardwired Tangent' on particular - what sounds to be an early alt-version of their beautiful compilation cut 'Wear Your Love Out' - while the blissful B-sider 'Hardwired Hypotenuse + Asymptote' stands out as a more mathematical ponderance of ungrounded space.

Review: Remastered and reissued with new a new album cover via the Clone West Coast Series, Adult's 'New Phonies' EP first appeared in 2000 as the duo moniker of Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller, two legit electro stalwarts. This is a proper snappy electro EP - of the least sympathetic and most coldly calculating kind - evoking the fright of becoming trapped inside an inescapable subliminal-sonic cybernetic feedback loop, with all human faculties thrown to the wayside. 'Hand To Phone', for example, locks us into a communicative-cybernetic stasis, with spitty acid 16ths betraying the mood of becoming affective chasers of electromagnetic signals, unwittingly carrying out the bidding of our new techno-evangelist overlords. The A-sider 'New Object', meanwhile, with its sizzling 808s, transitional fluctuations and hip-hop vocal refrain - "I need you to accommodate my comunication needs" - touches on several layers of objectification at once: sexual, commodification, loss of the ability to speak. Adult truly dealt with adult themes and embraced their recapture into the machine - now you too can own their New Object.

Review: Underground Resistance likely owe much of their mythology to the Interstellar Fugitives series; a classic series telling the tale of the UR clique fighting oppression and music-industry corruption on a cosmic scale. It's certainly an experimental delight for most newcomers to the techno genre and/or those who want to trace the history of the sound. DJ S2 (aka. Suburban Knight) and Von Floyd (aka. Gerald Mitchell) are infamous members of the UR gang; both of them have enjoyed success in the genre, and as part of the clique, since at least the late 1980s. 'Post Emancipation Psychosis' is a classic slab of UR's anarchic, ironic militancy. With its orderly drum machine march, the eponymous track by S2 describes the paranoia and loss of mental clarity one might after having been freed from the coercive clutches of a former master; meanwhile, Floyd's 'Geiger Counter' is a super-early electro classic, channelling a bursting, radioactive soundbank even few producers today could replicate.

Review: Mark Broom is one of the mainstays of the global underground. The UK titan has a recognisable take on house and techno genre that is underpinned by slamming kick and that comes to bare once more now as he lands on fellow legend Radio Slave's Rekids label. These four cuts bring a more house feel to start with as 'Klashjamz' layers up disco strings and vocals into something joyous. 'Showtime' has a garage slip to the loopy, silky drum rotations and 'HighNRG' throws it back with big stabs, percussive drums and chopped up vocal shards. 'Jazz Ting' is an aptly named closer with plenty of steamy sax notes of raw, loopy grooves.

Review: The fledgling Detach label continues to show it means business with a new 12" in a lovely screen-printed sleeve. Romanian artist Dyl is the one in charge and has been serving up consistently excellent and innovative sounds now for serval years. All of these cuts mix up great sound design with languid rhythms - the first is eerie, with watery droplets and glassy tinkles hanging in the air, while 'Glasshouse 2' has a percolating rhythm down low. 'Glasshouse 3' gets a little more dynamic with a shimmering low end and freaky abstract life forms and 'Glasshouse 4' layers in more intense and ever-shifting synth lines while the closer sounds like it's roaming through a deserted factory long after it shut down.
