Review: Cassy continues to remind us all of her credentials with another fine outing on her own Kwench label. It's a solo work that follows a series of collaborations but frankly tops all those with its sheer dancefloor intensity. 'Where Are We Now' is a full-throttle house cut with steamy 90s drive, vocal shards and unrelenting drum grooves that will bring frenzy to any floor. 'Alder' is more playful - it has a carnival vibe thanks to its colourful synths and caring percussion while yearning vocals ring out in the midst of it all. Review: Three distinctly outer space-themed cuts from Greece's Alex Celler, each with a linear minimal/tech skeleton that has other, interloping musical influences draped elegantly and classily across it. 'Ancient Astronuats' has the weird, wired mystical stirrings of early Black Dog about it, complete with melting, bendy electro notations that coax it along and add a psychedelic dimension. 'Stargate To Cosmos' has a playful, Drexciyan feel to it, with crunchy, organic drum beats flirting alongside the more rigid electrics. 'Object In The Sky' is the most minimal of the pack, sleek and stalker-like, but still contains enough action - mainly floating around up there in the ether - to hold and build attention.

Review: First available digitally earlier in the year and now finally out on wax, this tidy 12" showcases a quartet of killer cuts from the studios of In Dust We Trust co-founders, Chaos in the CBD (New Zealand-born siblings Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales) and Jon Sable. The trio offer up two collaborative cuts, both of which give different spins on the fusion of dub techno and hypnotic deep house. There's opener 'Mahia Madness', a thickset, late-night number that's as dubby and hazy as any Deepchord record, and the gently picturesque, Sprinkles-esque 'To Puke Thunder'. The EP also boasts a solo track apiece, with Chaos in the CBD opting for non-stop, energy-packed deep techno hypnotism ('Coral Castle'), and Sable reaching for dreamy deep house chords and rubbery broken beats ('Ascension Island').

Review: The recently formed Alienist Rec has done a fine job of setting out its sonic stall so far and now the label looks to a pair of artists to take care of one side each of their third 12". Starting things off is promising young Moroccan producer Chaou B with the twitchy disco-techno of 'Instinct' and its flashes of synth light. 'Untitled Groove' is another intergalactic stomper wired up with pixelated leads. It is then season Vienna mainstay DJ Void who takes over with the pulsing and 90s style prog techno of 'Frankfurt Jaam' and bleeping future house funk of 'Transaction'.

Review: 'Don't Stop' is not only the title of this new EP from Charles D, but so too something of a mantra Drumcode label head Adam Beyer seems to live by. Its output has never really slowed despite 20 odd years of business and still it is up there with the best of the best when it comes to potent main room techno. This latest trio of tricks kick off with 'Don't Stop' which is a hard edged banger with buzzing and serrated synths. 'No Escape' is another raw cacophony of sound with dark vocals lost in the synth storms and 'Choir's Palace' sets down with some slightly trance-like energy that will get hands in the air.

Review: Charlou is the solo alias of a French producer who here takes charge of the fourth fantastic outing from Flight Mode. Hr opens up in thumping fashion with 'Death Hypnosis' which has synths fired from a gun like laser rays and throwback acid bass. 'Sacrilege' is even more hard-assed with further retro sci-fi signifiers over hulking great kicks. 'Passive Power' brings more teeth-clenching retro-future techno sounds shot through with synth electricity and the EP highlight comes at the last with 'Crashed On The Space Road' setting off at high speed through the stars and never letting up.

Review: This Bristol based imprint is onto its third edition after smashing previous 12"s from homegirl Shanti Celeste and the mysterious Fred. Not much is known of next debutante Chekov either but if this EP is any indication: he's certainly on to great things. He could be a Bristolian, if the slowburning and bass heavy roller "Bierce" is any indication: it has a gritty industrial aesthetic to it too. "Rotlicht" (which translates into red light from German) is a dirty, late night house jam powered by dusty analogue elements and a lo-fi vibe. On the flip "Toothru" is the most mellow offering on the EP, where a woozy arpeggio is set adrift above a broken beat and some hypnotic pads letting this less is more approach really shine.

Review: Playing the guessing game is becoming increasingly regular with regards to releases on The Trilogy Tapes; like Levantis, Rezzett and Ondo Fudd before them, Chemotex arrive on Will Bankhead's label with a foggy sense of mystery that's hard to unravel. Although we may never know whether the producer will turn out to be the moniker for someone more notorious or just another example of Will Bankhead's canny A&R, TTT releases are rarely about the name on the label, and more about the head turning nature of the music itself. Still though, Bankhead appears to have stumbled upon perhaps the most corrosive TTT material yet, with "Schrade Knives" every bit as sharp as the name suggests and comparable to Container having a particularly bad day. However, it's edged out by "Payphone Player", which is pretty much a noise techno version of the ringtone from hell. As you'd expect, it's not for the faint of heart.

Review: Emotional Response present something intriguing and oh so fresh from Cherrystones, who has most commonly been spotted recently lurking about labels like Bahnsteig 23, but in fact has a legacy reaching back to the late 90s. This new mini-album is reportedly the result of a pointed retreat to Scotland - a period of semi-isolation with minimal distractions from the serious business of analogue synths and reel-to-reel tape. There's a lot going on, from the slinky, boogie-licked groove of 'Amaziac' to the sludgy, wave tinted 'Rave Digger', but throughout the common theme is one of rough, upfront waveforms - maximal sounds with lashings of character, wielded with glee by an artist knee deep in their craft.

Review: Posthuman's Balkan Vinyl imprint is back with a third installment in the Kanlab series. Chevron is at the buttons and on a clear mission to destroy the dance floor with fresh acid explosions. This latest limited 7" starts with 'Manctronix', a manic mix of brutal breakbeats, fizzing acid madness and eerie vocals that are chopped up and well deployed throughout the mix. There is even more of a prickly and unruly texture to 'Unity' which spits out all manner of sounds on a constant basis, never letting you lock in and instead staying firmly on the seat of your pants.

Review: Charles Accarisi, also known as Chlar, is a multi-talented techno artist and a promising name on the scene. On the 17th release of Self Reflektion, 'Not Here For The Fame', he showcases his technical abilities as a producer and DJ with a diverse selection of four tracks made for the dancefloor. The title track is characterised by steely mechanisms while 'Unknown Velocity', also on the A-side, has a direct impact influenced by Robert Hood. On the flip, 'Are You Happy?' takes on a loopier late 90s techno feel, followed by the austere peak-time offering aptly titled 'Powergroove.'

Review: From THEM to REKIDS and now on Arts, Berlin-based Ukrainian producer Chontane has covered a lot of ground in the few years he's been releasing music, arriving at a hi-octane sound that doesn't sacrifice depth and atmosphere in the process. 'Tiama' is a fierce and energised juggernaut bolstered with thick waves of dub tech chords that swirl and surge like a volatile storm cloud about to burst. 'Moellex' creates a similar mood with a different set of tools, using less conventional percussive elements and getting knottier in the groove. There's also bomb-blast garage-techno devastation on 'Apeth' - the kind of heavy-duty gear you could picture Objekt having some fun with.

Review: Adam Beyer's notable techno label Drumcode seems to be as busy as ever of late. The label here rolls out a fourth part of its ongoing A Sides series, which is now up to volume 12. Though the Swede himself doesn't feature, some of his trusty sidemen do starting with Chris Avantgarde who brings big room, hard techno energy to 'The Last Time'. Bry Ortega keeps it just as intense with the machine-gun like synth fire of 'Discover 9', Massano brings some brighter synth loops to the stomping 'Betraya' and Spektre shut down with a mix of hardcore, trance and techno potency on 'Too Far Gone.' Some great DJ weaponry here, for sure.

Review: Having previously done their bit to showcase new, timeless-sounding electro, deep house and techno, the people behind the admirable We're Going Deep and Innate labels (specifically Placid and Owain K) have decided to join forces on a new reissue-focused venture, InnDeep. The basic idea is to showcase forgotten and overlooked gems, many made in the UK in the 90s and 2000s. They've picked a gem to begin with: Tom Churchill's 1997 three-tracker Personal Interpretation - a cracking collection of melodious, bedroom-made jams that brilliantly blur the boundaries between analogue-rich deep house, far-sighted deep techno and off-kilter, bass-heavy wonkiness. Our pick of the bunch is the unfeasibly gorgeous title track, though sub-heavy closing cut 'Crossed Wires' is also superb.

Review: The Spanish Hypnotic Collective label attempts to capture its take on the Detroit Legacy with what looks like a new series of various artists' EP. There is plenty of Motor City soul in the gorgeous synths of Cignol's muted acid and deep house opener 'Distance' which is a soothing and reverential groove, but then its pure party from Barce, Alex Martin offers up 313 style tech and three further tunes on the flip explore blistering electro with high-speed funk and cosmic intent. Mission accomplished and we're already looking forward to the next one.

Review: Bass house hero Will Clarke is back this week, with a wicked two-tracker for Factory 93 out of sunny Los Angeles, California. On the A side you've got 'Mirage' which is another powerful main room techno workout in the vein of recent material by the Bristolian on labels like Drumcode. Over on the flip, there's the gnarly, Reese-driven fury of "Sometimes You Gotta Let It Go" which again shows restraint but is perfect tackle for DJs to lead into the peak time.

Review: Moodulab is a label from Madrid by way of Venezuela. Their latest release sees the return of Jorge Luis Perez Oviedo aka Clash, who presents some hypnotic powerful and raw cuts, which get the remix treatment by two scene masterminds as well. There's the austere, late night warehouse vibe of 'Chaos' which starts things off in properly mental style, while 'Theory' is equally as off-kilter but more geared for the heads-down moments with its deep space sonar transmissions. Asturian legend Tensal (Exium) nails that cerebral tool techno sound as expected in his rework, while Maxime Iko from France reaches near breakneck speeds on his version - so strap in for one seriously wild ride.

Review: Those with a deep knowledge of electro and techno will be salivating at the prospect of More Than A Machine: Part 1, an EP that boasts cuts from such legends of the scene as Sterac Electronics, The Advent and Christian Smith. All deliver the goods, of course, as does rising star Client 03, whose EP-opening 'Regression Container' brilliantly flips between shimmering, deep space ambient and warming, tactile electro dreaminess. Those looking for more rugged and robust club fare should check Sterac Electronics 'Reinstated', with its' out-there lead lines and machine-gun bass, and the sleazy, up-tempo futurism of the Adveny and Zein Ferreira's 'Seven'. Christian Smith's deep, Kraftwerk-influenced 'Pressure Drop' rounds off a predictably strong EP.

Review: Techno arriving on 7" is not an all too common sight, but why not? This release from the fledgling Dispari out of Germany suggests it works well. Cloud Management and Gavsborg take one side each, starting with the former. Their 'Tempentary Dance' pairs thudding and broken kick drum patterns with dreamy and rising synth sequences and spoken words. It's brilliantly beguiling. The flip then finds Gavsborg offering 'Did Not Make This For Jah_9' (feat Shanique Marie) which is dark and moody, dubbed out and dystopian deep techno.

Review: You can always depend on Ali Wells' mighty Perc Trax for the most brutal industrial strength tackle and its latest release certainly delivers that. Scottish enfant terribles Clouds take up the reins on TPT 096 titled Clubmatter. All the classic tropes of 90s dance music are mashed together in an unholy mixture on the foreboding energy of 'Ravesight', heading into post Y2K peak time techno on the functional main room affair of 'NRG - Density' and 'Corestyle' respectively - the latter's injection of classic trance arpeggios adding to its adrenalised effects. Finally, the Perth drug legends go out all guns blazing on the pummeling 'Liquid Tank' with its foreboding bassline underpinned by the most visceral kicks.

Review: Fancy another trip to Fantastic Planet? We do, and this third one is the best yet. It finds Robert as your sonic host and laying down four cuts of techno that is designed to twist you inside out. 'Cat Shits In The Snow' is a disgusting title but a fantastic tune - electro-tinged techno tautness with snappy snares and wonky synth leads. 'Track 2' brings a haunting sense of late-night intrigue with its eerie leads and rolling linear drums and then the flip gets more freaky with the thumping and textured intensity of 'Mask 001' and sinewy electronic collisions of 'Mask 002'.

Review: Detroit-based Code Industry, for those who know, were a highly regarded and influential EBM-techno outfit. The always reliable Dark Entries has been digging in their vaults to serve up this vital reissue of their Structure EP. The quartet of Rob Myers, E.N. Sevy, Kyl Crys, and William Keith formed in 1989 having previously worked as Code Assault and were rare black artists working in the world of EBM and industrial. They were socially and politically minded so issues of racism, the media, and the hypocrisy of patriotism all comes up in their music which is denied by taught synths and dark vocal whispers that echo the work of acts like Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb. Add in high tech grooves and you have s fantastic EP that was originally released in 1991 on the Antler-Subway label.

Review: Colossio and Luke Garcia combine on this new EP for Microcastle and offer up a mix of solo and collaborative cuts. Musically, techno is the foundation sound here but is explored far and wide. Colossio gets things underway with 'Amen' which is all fizzing pads and buzzy synths over tough drums. Luke Garcia's 'Ryen' is then an explosive mix of strobe lit and peak time tackle with writing lines and freeform energy. Orbe's 'Thorax' then goes down a deep, dark late night techno tunnel in mind melting fashion and Sciahri's deft loops on 'No Fear' leave you feeling utterly in the moment. The hypnosis continues on the flip with darker drum rumbles from Farceb, constant suspense from 'Dario Duegra' and magnificently weighty minimalism from Uun.

Review: Much is made of the love that Bill Converse from Austin, Texas, has for classic music making hardware (as opposed to the computer-based solutions most find convenient these days), but at the end of the day it's the results he gets rather than the means that have cemented his reputation as one of the most interesting names operating in the US today. This six track selection is no exception, suitably freed-up from convention or restriction and executed with a radioactive excitement that shines directly out of the grooves. Check the rapid fire snares of 'The Last Time', the eerie, horn-like screeches of 'Measurement (Of What?)' or 'Take Apart', with its ascending Detroit-style bassline, for further proof, or just dive in and enjoy the whole lot.

Review: Techno troubadour Yan Cook has a fine discography on some of the most respected labels out there. Now he heads to Ukraine's Cooked, a young but perfectly formed imprint, and kicks off his EP with 'Blades,' which is all melon twisted synths and driving techno kicks. 'Whistleblower' then slips into a deeply atmospheric groove with gurgling bass and watery effects and 'Grom' is all about the swing in the drums. Gritty textures and insistent claps add to the thrill of it all and 'Skyhigh' is a more frosty dub techno cut that leaves out breathless.

Review: The always visceral techno craftsman Yan Cook is back with more big room destruction. He steps away from his usual Delsin home to land on the Ukrainian hotbed Cooked. "Counterclockwise" is a thrilling track with hammering kicks and electrifying synths tying the groove in knots. "Abstract" is dark and even more twisted, with kicks so big they will crumble the foundations of any club. The busy, dense and complex styles continues on the rave "Tidal Disruption" before "Noiser" sinks into a more hypnotic and stripped back groove. Review: Yan Cooked has been crafting no nonsense and fad free techno weapons for a mighty long time on plenty of the scene's most assured labels. His own Cooked is one of them by now and this is where he returns for a tenth outing in the form of his Distorted Memories EP. 'Sweat' is a punchy opening salvo with gritty claps and grainy techno drums leaning into a stiff breeze. 'Reason' has screwy saw tooth synths that sound truly mad and the title cut that hurries along at a quicker pace with rattling metal panels and thwacking great hits. 'Crab' is a different vibe entirely - twisted drums and breaks and lashings of acidic synth work.

Review: Tyree Cooper is the man who will forever be synonymous with hip house - a sound he pioneered and that no one has ever basically bettered, even though we feel there sure is scope for more people to try and add something to the short-lived sound. Here he classic Future Reecoopd EP gets reissued by Chicago Vinyl and it is a raw and ghetto-fried outing with bumping analogue drums and chopped up vocal fragments. Review: Australian artist and Moonshoe founder Cousin looks to the rich local surrounds of their neighbourhood for inspiration in this new techno two tracker. It comes hot on the heels of the well-received recent outing on NAFF and kicks off with the deep, dubby and supple rhythmic sounds of 'Rosie' which is detailed with wispy melodies and distant twangs, watery droplets and alien life forms. Review: Notorious internet motormouth Thomas Cox dropped the first EP on his own new QED label back in 2020, but only now is the vinyl arriving with us. It was worth the wait, however, because as much as it would be fun to find the sort of faults in his music that he does in everyone else's, these are three raw as you like tracks that go direct to the soul. Detroit influences of course loom large throughout, with each cut layering up dirt and grime, dusty drums and rusty synths to hypnotic effect. The standout might be the unresolved loops and cosmic-gaze of 'Starry Ave,' but any of these will make an impact on the right dance floor.

Review: Adam Craft is back with a second selection of his Renata Tracks. The first EP in this series came back in 2017 on Arsenik Records but here he lands on Phorma. Things kick off with the cinematic ambient of 'Pace' (Variation) which then becomes a deep and dubby techno roller in original form. Things stay well below the surface with 'Into Dust' which is another fresh dub cut that is rippled with frosty chords. 'I Only Said' is a traintrack groove that locks you into its linear rhythm and keeps you there for a lovely old hypnotic trip.

Review: 'At Les' is one of Carl Craig's most beloved productions: a gorgeously dreamy chunk of Innerzone Orchestra style tech-jazz that first surfaced - on a now in-demand compilation - 25 years ago. Craig has revisited it several times since, but it's Christian Smith's 2010 reworks - reissued on this 12" for the first time since - that are arguably the most peak-time ready and dancefloor-centric. On the A-side 'Tronic Treatment' version Smith layers the track's iconic synthesizer motif - heart-achingly poignant and drenched in delay - and deep, spacey chords over deep, rumbling sub-bass and a crunchy deep house beat. Smith ups the tempo and intensity on the arguably even better 'Hypnotica Mix', which is closer in tone to pure Motor City techno and features a genuinely spellbinding breakdown.

Review: Dutch label Shiver makes its debut this week with a various artist EP featuring some current heroes of the minimal/tech house scene. On the first side of Cold Flower (Full Bloom) you've got Cris P with the hi-tech deepness of the title track, reminiscent of early United States Of Mars sounds, followed by Rosario's darkly stomping Stigma Flap remix and Ouhx's liquid drum 'n' bass journey 'Aomori' which is an introduction of things to come over on the flip. There you have Berlin's Ed Herbst, usually known for his deep house exploits, delivering the 90s influenced jazzy jungle roller 'High & Dry' followed by something more familiar of him in the form of late night mood music groove 'Between The Bars'.

Review: A powerful and raw techno EP from Italian producer Domenico Crisci, who delivers four tracks of uncompromising hard groove via Hungarian label BRVTAL. The EP opens with the title track 'Born Under Another Sun' which imposes an austere cyclicality upon you that is aimed squarely at the peak time dancefloor. 'Sons Of The Sea' continues the same vibe on yet another steely DJ tool conducive to layering or long mixes. Review: Yes, yes, one thousand times yes. Cryptobitch resurrect track ideas and stems originally formed in 2010, as if only to prove the fact they were well ahead of the curve back then. Packing plenty of IDM nuances, while everything here is very clever indeed it's also a prime example of why the hybrid dance revolution is so infectious and all-encompassing.

Review: German hardcore and hard trance act Cybex Factor were active from 1991 to 1994 and dropped only four EPs in that time. The first one was produced by Martin Damm and Bit Bites Brain, the second by Damm on his own, and the final two had Claudius Debold at the controls. 'Die Schopfung' was their debut offering and one that has become a bit of an expensive collectors' item over the years so now gets a reissue on Boy. It very much chimes with the current trend for trance, harder techno and acid to all collide in the club and so is sure to win plenty of new generation fans who like its retro-future charms.

Review: There's not much that hasn't been said about this amazing electro breadance beauty from Juan Atkins and Richard Davis. Review: Ourtime Music has proven itself to deal in the more sophisticated end of the deep tech spectrum today and D Ball fits that MO perfectly here. His Moments EP opens with elegant depths, meaningful keys, and dreamy chords over an icy minimal rhythm. 'Fall' then explores a world of airy broken beats and more gently twisted synths that hang above the dancefloor. Things get flipped for the final cut, 'Iam Pro', which is a mental techno workout with frosty textures and intense modulations tying your mind in knots.

Review: The pivotal Lobster Theremin welcomes D.Dan for a new EP that follows on from a fine run of recent form. As always, he serves up thrilling, hard hitting techno that has you clenching both your fists and your teeth as you buckle in for the white knuckle ride. "Switchblade" kicks off with distorted drums and urgent synth stabs that race along at 100 miles an hour. "Mutant Force" is just that with its tortured synths and surging drums, then burn out offers a dystopian take on mind warping Mills-ian techno. There is slightly deeper, warmer stuff on the flipside that carries you to the very fringes of the galaxy.

Review: There's only one word for this 1996 release from Donnell Knox aka D-Knox - blistering. Originally released on Jay Denham's Black Nation Records in 1996, it's become a highly sought after 12" and now appears having been remastered by Tim Xavier and reissued on Knox's own Sonic Mind label.
It's not hard to see why it was so in demand. 'Total Concentration' starts with drum machines set to stun and the mixing desk pushed to the edge of distortion. 'Deep Meditation' is smoother but still has the speed and crunch of its companion on the A-side. 'Mind Calming' has an almost industrial thump to it, minimal and brutal in all the right ways. It hurts, but it hurts good.

Review: After having two of his earlier tunes remodelled by Carl Craig and Mike Huckaby thanks to Sushitech, Detroit's Delano Smith re-emerges on the label with a double pack of tunes made with Brawther under the D&B Productions. That moniker has more to do with the pair's name rather than a suddenly conversion to drum & bass, although there's a love of dubby effects and deep bass power here that - at a stretch - could be said to be in common. The six tracks - Symbiosis' 1-6 - are smooth and simple, but executed with an ear (or four) for an irresistible groove, an economic but rhythmic keyboard stab and a knack for squeezing something nicely soulful from the barest ingredients. Nice work indeed.

Review: We're Going Deep is run by Placid aka Paul Wise and it has roots that go back many, many years. The music it puts out remains at the very cutting edge though as this new one proves. It comes from D5, UK underground favourites, and here they offer up a trio of super stylish cuts of deep and sleek techno. 'RedAnalysis' is a bumping one with nice prickly percussion and trippy melodies, then 'BlackAnalysis' gets more soulful and smears Detroit synths over tightly bobbling kick drums. 'Noanalysis' closes out somewhere between the two with warm atmosphere and cool groove to spare.

Review: Canada's Aquaregia comes of age with a 20th EP that continues in its own tradition of serving up emotional techno rollercoasters. Nicola Dal Sacco is behind this one with opener 'Wirrwarr' layering in bright tartan chords to deep linear drums. 'Gelato' takes on a more undulating form with soft acid lines changing shape throughout and 'Parapiglia' layering up more deft acid, progressive melodies and serene synths. 'Linea' flips the script with a slow-motion dub cut for late-night star-gazing. This is well-crafted techno with a real emotional impact.

Review: Following up the inaugural release by Braintalk, Zurich-based label Human Sense Technology returns for its second edition here, this time from hometown hero Dan Piu. He rebooted his career after a 16 year hiatus a few years ago and has been more prolific than ever, with releases on Childhood Electronix, Cartulis, and Hizou Deep Rooted Music. The Modern Utopia Thoughts EP is dedicated to his youth and influenced by future visions of creation, featuring early '90s UK techno sounds that are very much in fashion at the moment ('Dysfunctional / 'Libertarian On A Mission') deep subterranean 303 acid journeys Modern (the title track) and classic Chicago house tropes as heard on 'The NATA Liaison'.

Review: Here is the third and final chapter of the 'Systema Naturae' series on Berlin-based 012, with fresh deep techno visions from newcomers such as Daniel(i) from Belgium (Whispering Signals) who ventures into foreboding and murky territory on the off-kilter journey of 'Carabus', and there's the return of Greek producer Alex Tomb who gets into some hypnotic minimal techno on 'Paradisaea'. Elsewhere, Leipzig-based Kontinum pushes into full mental overdrive on the strobing cut 'Octandria' and finally you have the collaboration between Mary Yuzovskaya and label head Claudio PRC titled 'Marmor' which perfectly nails that ethereal Sound Of Rome vibe.
