New Mind Coming
New Mind Coming (180 gram vinyl 12")

  1. A New Mind (feat Rave Creator - Cold Rush Phuture mix) (8:43)
  2. The 2nd Coming (feat Mescalinum United) (4:21)
  3. A New Mind (feat Rave Creator - Ghost In The Machine remix) (6:18)
  4. The 2nd Coming (feat Mescalinum United - 999999999 remix) (5:20)
Review: Prolific German techno producer Marc Acardipane is back, unleashing his brand of extreme noise terror upon us via Berlin-based imprint Reclaim Your City. Recognised as the 'Godfather Of Hardcore', two classics from Acardipane are reissued here: the euphoric rave madness of "A New Mind" (feat Rave Creator - Cold Rush Phuture mix) capturing that early '90s zeigeist, and the seething menace that is "The 2nd Coming" under his legendary Mescalinum United alias. Remixes come from the Italian live performers 999999999 who deliver an industrial strength jackhammer perspective, while the Dutch duo Ghost In The Machine up the ante on their adrenaline rushed, acid trip vision.

Review: Acidworx present their tenth release, which label boss DJ Seri so eloquently describes himself as 'more funky, squelching acid cuts for your brain'. Their acid trips have assisted them in travelling (without moving) as far as Japan, Australia, Netherlands and Switzerland on this one. The acid flashback on A1 will take you back to the days of the Plastik parties at the legendary Packard Plant in Detroit, while the tunnelling and strobed-out mentalisms of "10.02" will certainly cause long term effects - at the very least it'll have you calling in sick on Monday. On the flip, strap yourself in for a wild ride on the full-throttle acid trance epic "10.03" and boldly exclaim 'stay up forever!'

Review: Long time Berlin favourite Ellen Allien has always embodied the spirit of her hometown, no matter what particular corner of the techno world she has operated in. From big warehouse bangers to more artful and pop leading electronic sounds, she is always on the move, but aways true. Aura, her latest full length, touches on a wide range of sounds - from vocal laced mind melting acid on "In Music I Trust" to the intense loops of "Traum" via high speed industrial techno funk of "Confusion". This is a far ranging album with a black heart that suggests our future is uncertain.

  4. Enigma (4:19)
Review: Following hot on the heels of the release of Dawl's superb "Break It Down" EP, Cardiff party-starters Haws offer up a label debut from sometime Steel City Dance Discs and Typeless Records contributor Aloka. The Welsh producer begins in creepy and clandestine fashion via the bold, beautiful and suitably sci-fi electro flex of "View Source", which sounds like something that could have been discovered in a trunk of Drexciya demos nestling at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. "Blind Spot" is, if anything, even more aggressive and energetic thanks to its raw, razor-sharp synth bass and furious electronic motifs, while "Red Shift" reminded us of some of Dexter's weightiest club cuts. As if to give us a breather, closing cut "Enigma" is a deep, melodious and ethereal electro treat.

Review: In 2018, the idea was introduced by Jeff Mills to address the lack of artistic collaborations within and from the city of Detroit/USA. The city had always been an engine of new innovative ideas related to music, art, dance, poetry and all other arts. It was thought of as a way to demonstrate the commonality people possess from various art forms and that by mixing ideas visions and perspectives together are might produce unexpected and often provocative results.

The project started when Mills reached out to one of Detroit Techno's founder and legendary DJ/Producer Eddie Fowlkes. Though the two are known and connected to Detroit Techno and knew each other for decades, they never worked together so the first few meetings and conversations were marked with finding all the common links that have built both of their careers. During this time, Mills wanted to find a third person for the project, one that was from Detroit, but not a musician. His idea and theory was that by engaging two other creative thinkers would most likely produce something unique as emotions would become linked together to find that common, but higher level. While browsing the web, Mills discovered a post that featured the Detroit-born poet Jessica Care Moore. Struck by her words and the energy she mastered to say them, Mills knew immediately that she would be the perfect artist to approach for this creative venture. As with most artists that grew up in Detroit, they immediately opened up the links in their past, present and future outlook. He presented the case and explained to her how he thought it might work. She liked the idea and agree to join.

THE CRYSTAL CITY IS ALIVE. (A phrase extracted from Moore's words), puts the Detroit, America and the World on notice. The alarm has sounded and it is now time to mobilize all creative units to the frontline.

  3. Atoms Speak (RRoxymore remix) (6:05)
  4. Moth Lines (Mattheis remix) (7:51)
Review: Delsin mainstay BNJM's last album Hypnagogia gets remixed by an interesting crew for this one. The ever deep German Efdemin goes for a smooth and serene techno atmosphere that's detailed with deft cosmic pads, and Luigi Tozzi channels classic Berlin dub techno on his icy yet warm take on "Inbdub." RRoxymore keeps things just as subtle but soothing on a dreamy late night and pad laced take on "Atoms Speak" while Mattheis traps you in a state of astral trance on his lush remix of "Moth Lines" which is as delicate and floaty as the insect it is named after.

Review: Named after the titular character in the Nicolas Winding-Refn movie, Bronson is the new project of Grammy-nominated, Seattle-based duo Odesza with masked Sydneysider Golden Features. Story has it that they first met at a music festival in Australia and formed an instant connection. Years passed by where they collaborated online, until their next meeting in-person where they found a space in a rural area, engaging in open-end jam sessions in an isolated and timeless space. The results appear on their self-titled debut LP for UK label Ninja Tune, which sees the trio 'reflect on their respective needs to challenge personal struggles, both internal and external.'

  10. Dawn (feat Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs) (7:17)
Review: While there are plenty of people rushing to terms like 'tech house' when it comes to Bronson, we're partial to find more fitting descriptions. The ODESZA and Golden Features' producer might be able to deliver something like 'Heart Attack', combining meaty kick drums, lunging low end groove and mournful duet of pitched down and au natural vocals the likes of which we're all familiar with. But there's a lot more than that happening on this debut album. 'Tense' would be a crunching broken techno warehouse job, if it were a little faster, nevertheless its uncompromising beats and gradually building hoovers bring intensity with ease. 'Know Me' takes us somewhere close to future garage, with 'Vaults' picking up from that lead but adding a progressive edge to create a very different, grander atmosphere. A vibe that 'Dawn' masterfully recreates to stadium filling proportions to bring the journey to its conclusion.

Review: Nina Kraviz's Trip continues to lead from the front when it comes to fresh techno. The celebrated first lady this time signs up for a full EP having reached for one of their tunes on the Locus Error double 12" that landed back in January. The results are superbly dialed back and deep techno with slick, quick grooves, deft percussion cruising by like the sound of a train on the tracks and distant pads hinting at far off life. "Entropy To Syntropy" is a masterclass in mind melting minimalism and "Perceptual Models" is a gorgeous piece of celestial techno.

Review: Sadly, there was no Love International festival this year, but the team behind it have given us the next best thing: a new volume in their superb "The Sound of Love International" compilation series from friend-of-the-family and beach stage mainstay Shanti Celeste. After opening with a typically spacey and dreamy new collaboration with her friend Saoirse - the intergalactic techno haziness of "Solid Mass", the Peach Discs co-founder treats us to a heady mixture of chunky, sunrise-ready breaks (Persian), drowsy ambient dub (Seekers International), deep space house and techno (EBE, Gideon Jackson, Carl Lekebusch), Barbarella's-ready peak-time fare (Perpetual, Paco Pack), angular late night dancefloor sleaze (Mark Seven) and weightless ambient bliss (Pauline Anna Stom).

Review: Default strides with confidence into its third release with a cast of underground operators orbiting what might once have been called the minimal scene. Label boss Exander is up first with the warm and throbbing "Enigma", while Chad Andrew makes a welcome return after many years of silence with the smooth and undulating "Elemental". Cerec gets a little bouncy and trippy with the melodically adventurous "Shinobi", and Avidel keeps things neat and tidy with the pitter-patter percussion and pin-point lead lines of "Aguamenti". If you're seeking out refined, musical tech house suited to extended dancefloor sessions, this is just the record for you.

  3. Wayne County Stomp (4:19)
Review: After five years of on-off collaborations and side projects, Aaron 'FIT' Siegel has finally got round to making a new solo record. It's rather good, with startling A-side "Exist On" delivering a brilliant blend of breakbeat-driven turn of the '90s grooves, chunky bass, ultra-dreamy chords and the kind of bleeping top-end melodies more readily associated with the early releases of Warp Records. Title track "Formula" moves even further towards bleep techno territory via deep space chords, thumping techno beats, Kraftwerkian lead lines and the kind of distorted analogue bass found on LIES releases, while "Wayne County Stomp" sounds like a mutated, mind-altering cover of Steve Poindexter's "Computer Madness".

Review: To mark the passing of a quarter of a century since the birth of Eric Morand and Laurent Garnier's influential F Communications label, the long-defunct imprint has returned to deliver 25 re-mastered reissues of important and sought-after releases. "Club Traxx", Garnier's all-action, dancefloor-focussed 1995 EP made in tribute to legendary Parisian venue the Rex Club, is undoubtedly worth its place in the series. There's much to enjoy, from the moody, Motor City style synth-strings and bustling techno grooves of "Side Effects" and the wild, mind-altering stomp of "Ranchando O Bico", to the deep techno dreaminess of "Aquarius", the stab-happy, warehouse-ready thrust of "Pigalle", and the intergalactic, acid-fired call-to-arms that is "Dance 2 The Music". Proper European techno that pays due reverence to the sound's roots; don't sleep!

Correciones Calypso Vol 3 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: CC 003. Rel: 03 Aug 20
  1. Thomass Jackson - "Maquina De Bongo" (6:51)
  2. Thomass Jackson - "Lavora!" (6:07)
  3. Plot Pilot - "Babylon" (6:22)
  4. Plot Pilot - "Move To The Nida Beach" (5:48)
Review: The third drop in the Correcciones Calypso series finds the Mexican label turning to regular fixture Thomass Jackson for the A side, where he brings some heavyweight crossover pelters for the ever-broadening tastes of the dancefloor. "Maquina De Bongo" is a fierce percussive throwdown with a chuggy cosmic disco sound that drives crowds into a frenzy, while "Lavora!" follows on a similar tip albeit with a slightly punchier EBM undercurrent. On the flip, Plot Pilot has an equally adventurous sound that draws on freaky synth flourishes and Eastern motifs for a pan-continental trip on a seductively dark tip. "Move To The Nida Beach" slows things down to an insanely catchy, chant-along synth pop pulse.

Psy Lance EP (reissue)
Psy Lance EP (reissue) (limited 12" 再出版)
Cat: TAPEHISS 002. Rel: 05 Aug 20
  1. Psy Lance (8:26)
  2. Bazz (6:30)
  3. Preacha Bonus (5:08)
Review: It's been a while since Zolta Pal last used the Jaffa Surfa alias. In fact, his last outing under the pseudonym dropped three years ago on Houseworx (the US garage-flavoured Pimpin' EP). This three-tracker happily finds him in fine form, delivering a more tech-tinged trio of aquatic deep house cuts. There's naturally plenty to enjoy, from the subterranean shuffle and liquid melodies of "Bazz" and heavy percussive bump of "Psy Lance" - all thickset, multi-tracked drums, calming pads and fizzing electronics - to the beatless bliss of "Preacha Bonus", which - unsurprisingly given the title - features a deep south preacher chatting over heady ambient chords.

Still Life (12" + sticker + MP3 download code)
Cat: VEYL 017. Rel: 29 Jul 20
  1. Jensen Interceptor - "The Outer Limits" (6:11)
  2. Cardopusher - "Bloodlust" (5:11)
  3. Lokier - "Secrets" (5:37)
  4. Morah - "Betrayal Love" (8:41)
  5. Randstad - "Metalloid" (5:56)
  6. Empire State - "Prostitution" (2:51)
Review: Featuring six tracks from an eye-catching array of rising stars and confirmed underground heroes, VEYL's latest release is a must-check affair. There simply isn't room to mention each and every track, so instead we'll pick out some of the many standout tracks. Check first the sleazy, foreboding filth of Jenson Interceptor's hybrid electro-techno treat "The Outer Limits", before diving headfirst into the even more mind-altering, synth-heavy darkness of Lokier's "Secrets". Randstad skilfully doffs a cap to Nitzer Ebb while keeping the grooves rooted in electro on the growling guitar-laden sweatiness of "Metalloid", while Cardopusher's acid-fired "Bloodlust" is a stylish blend of EBM weight, jacking drums and twisted electronic motifs.

No Human Illegal EP
Cat: PIA 01. Rel: 31 Jul 20
  1. Heal Myself N Moving On (5:26)
  2. Somewhere Deep In My Heart (3:54)
  3. Reincarnation (5:49)
  4. You Can Do It Baby (5:15)
Review: Jinn April is a South Korean born, now Detroit based artist who moved to the Motor City in pursuit of the music she loves. She has since established herself in the city as DJ PIA with sets at all the right venues and a cross-genre style that is the norm for the originators in the Mid West. Now comes her own self released first EP, and it's a fine one. "Heal Myself N Moving On" is raw, unapologetically rough house with hi hats, gauzy chords, wooden hits and knackered kicks all chucked into a loose mix and allowed to evolve on their own. "Somewhere Deep In My Heart" is another ramshackle mix of odd melodies and detuned jazz, while "Reincarnation" is a melange of keys and chords, occult synth sounds and icy hi hats that is purely experimental and "You Can Do It Baby" ends in similarly singular fashion. This is exactly the sort of unusualness you would expect of an artist who has established herself in Detroit.
