Review: Vinyl Fanatiks latest deep dive into British dance music's rave-era past takes us back to 1993 and an early EP from Dave 'Aquasky' Wallace under the Rave Doctor alias. All four tracks were originally released - minus titles - on Stu J's influential Adrenalin Records imprint via the 'I' EP, which in recent years has become something of an in-demand item amongst collectors. Now fully remastered, the tracks sound as rushing and energetic as ever, with Wallace flitting between sub-heavy 4/4 breakbeat hardcore (the thumping 'Live With The Hardcore'), blistering breakbeat hardcore ('Shake Your Rump', which features a typical-for-the-period chords-and-sped-up-vocals breakdown), proto-jungle insanity from the 'jungle-tekno' period ('Annihilating Rhythm') and an 'Apache' break-driven slab of sub-heavy breathlessness ('Ruff In The Jungle', with its jangling pianos and hands-aloft approach).

Review: Shadow Child and Mark Archer are two titans of the UK underground who have also very much made their mark on the world stage, though with quite different sounds. Here they find some sweet middle ground with a fierce new three tracker on Food Music. It opens up with the throwback rave energy and belting diva vocals of 'I Know U' and gets even bigger with 'Chinwah (Big DJs)', a cantering big room house cut with throwback stabs. The best of the lot is saved for last when 'I Know U' (Swankout Ready 2 Rave mix) erupts on waves of flappy drums and rich rave synths.

Review: Breakbeat brederen unite for another sermon at the altar of Dawl who brings the chaos to this new 12", Slice & Dice. The title track kicks off with some mad old school scratching before fresh breaks bounce along and a ragged bassline joins in the fun. 'Let's Go For A Ride is another percussive workout with snares and toms all flapping away at high speed and 'Sonic Boom' keeps up the madness with slick, high-speed beats and corrugated bassline. Review: Hornsey Hardcore is but one outlet for the prolific cult legend Jerome Hill, but at least you know exactly what you're going to get from these records. Bringing the breakthrough sounds of 1992-1994 into the modern age, Hill manages to maintain the clattering roughness of the OG material while adding in the benefit of modern mixing to make these tracks smack you upside the head in ways the old stuff can only dream of. Just drop in on the manic roll of 'Asylum' and you'll hear all you need to as the off key orchestra stabs and 'Bombscare' break create a five-minute pile-up with enough samples about insanity send a suitably grubby rave into sheer bedlam.

'Rice Up' kicks off with an unlikely sample from the tune best known for defining the Rocky soundtrack and it comes in a world of caustic fuzz and noise. Review: 31 years have now passed since Smart E's gate-crashed the charts with their contribution to the (short-lived) 'toytown rave' movement, 'Sesame's Treet' - a rather silly (but, in its own way, joyous) breakbeat hardcore tune featuring snippets of the theme tune to 'Sesame Street'. Here the track gets the 2023 remix treatment. Fast flowing 'chap hop' rapper Professor Elemental stars on 'Sesame's Treet 2023', a funkier but no less celebratory re-imagining that retains core elements from the original mix (the raw rave stabs, the boisterous breaks and, yes, bits of that oh-so-familiar theme tune), while the HSI remix is an energetic, extra-percussive, sample-heavy take built around a deliciously wobbly bassline and saucer-eyed chords. The EP also features remastered 1992 album track 'Magnificent', a slightly darker but even more potent hardcore workout.

Review: The superb Kniteforce label takes no prisoners once more with a blistering new EP from The Rood Project that is a perfect time-warp back to the heyday of 90s rave. The Crack Of Dawn 12" actually dropped in 1993 and is an experimental jungle techno mash up for peak time listening. It's dark, energising and packed with great samples about being high. And that's just the title track - 'Scary' is like a rollercoaster that breaks free of its rails and 'Crimestretch' is a cacophony of dark, brutal breaks and drilling bass.

Review: Vinyl Fanatiks take it all the way back to 1993 with this reissued EP by Fruit & Veg. It has been fully remastered of the occasion and sounds as good now in terms of the fidelity, as well as the style, as it did 30+ years ago. 'Dark Enough?' is a nice heads-down and hardcore jungle roller with broad, menacing bass that booms out beneath the silky loops. Flip it over and '25%' again has some devastating amen breaks looped to infinity while more tripped melodies bring a darker rave edge to this one.

Review: The Vinyl Fanatiks label is doing a superb job of offering up classics from days gone by that need to be heard again. They do so in a range of genres and Mad Dog is behind many of them. He is a hardcore maestro and two of his most explosive sounds are offered up on this new limited 7". 'Relapse' opens up with hurried breakbeats and skittish snares that explode and implode over menacing basslines. There is no let up on the flip when 'Secret Garden' storms out the blocks with just as much breaks-driven energy but more smooth and pensive synth work.

Review: Lone's music has always been hugely colourful and has often taken huge inspiration from the rave era of the UK scene's 90s heyday. All that is true again of this new 12" on Greco Roman. It kicks off with 'Waterfall Reverse' which is a day glow, hands in the air, piano-laced jungle banger that does not hold back and douses you in inescapable euphoria. On the flip side is an utterly different proposition. 'Triton' is a pumping house cut with tight chord vamps, bumping drums and throwback r&b vocals. Two killers.

Review: Diosis Decibel roll out another techno D&B fusion affair with the bossman Sam C once again at the controls. 'Under The Radar' sets the scene. A pummelling 165BPM 4x4 / breakbeat swagger, it punches holes in every wall of your house before it even comes out of the sleeve. These vibes persist across the 12" as Sam goes deep on the hypnotic 'Electric Flow' and euphoric on 'Eternal' while Italian-in-Romania Madmatik lays down some psy gold on 'Lacrima'. Exceptional.
