Review: A musical genius who started playing piano at two and was studying at a music conservatory by age five, Tori Amos is technically in a league of her own. Over three decades, she has had a remarkable career, earning the highest accolades for her captivating lyrics, impressive piano work and novel songwriting approach. This live album reminds us what an exhilarating performer she is on stage. Recorded throughout 2022 and 2023 on her Ocean to Ocean tour, Amos treated fans to the deep cuts, B-sides and covers at her shows, hence the album title. Whilst Amos is at the forefront of the mix, the skill of bassist Jon Evans and drummer Ash Soan on the record elevates her power to terrific heights. Not exactly the deepest of cuts on the record, but still a standout, the album was launched with 'Cornflake Girl' as the single, which is an astounding song that sets the benchmark and ought to be played to any aspiring musician.

Review: AURORA's new album What Happened To The Heart? on Decca was inspired after she read a life-changing letter in 2002 that was co-written by indigenous activists and titled We Are the Earth. It called for a revolution to address global warming and heal the land and described a deep connection to the earth through our hearts. This inspired the artist to explore what happened to this connection. She delved into human anatomy to understand when and why Western culture lost touch with the heart's deeper purpose and the result is a poignant musical journey from weakness to strength which explores self-healing, the power of vulnerability, and is the call to reconnect the heart with politics and personal growth.

Review: Norwegian pop singer-songwriter and artist Aurora released Infections Of A Different Kind as a two-part album originally in 2019. Owing to its grand success, it's only taken it five years to reach the status of reissue-worthy! "If there is a god, would we even know his name?... if there is a god, I think he would shake his head and turn away" is one spine-tingling tagline from the album's title track, which gets at the album's Nietzschean themes: be they the trappings of over-indulgent, coddled consumer socities; the climate crisis; or the widespread emphasis of individualism above collectivism. An album with a deeply political heart and soul, it was considered a tonal shift in Aurora's oeuvre, marking the explosive awakening she felt upon its making.

It's no surprise that Baker earned himself the name "Prince of Cool" as the concept of cool overtook the jazz world in the 50s and 60s; likewise, the artists chosen to reimagine Baker's many sweet treats here each epitomise that same offhand effortlessness which typified Baker's playstyle. Highlights include Dodie, who leads with a Latin percussive rekeying of 'Old Devil Moon', and mxmtoon, who brings equable guitar lurches to Baker's rather lost-his-cool confession of loving excitement, 'I Fell In Love Too Easily'.

Review: Caravan are notable pushers of the early 70s Canterbury scene, a unique subgenre of prog rock that found its start in the 1960s but which continued to be fleshed out well into the following decade; and in this case, in London, away from the scene's original inception. In The Land Of Grey & Pink now hears a reissue via Deram, once again recalling Caravan's whimsical sensibility and their overarching fit into the Canterbury sound at large. Whether nailed by its the frank and boxed-in vocals by Richard Sinclair, or the channel-surrounded guitar licks of Pye Hastings - as well as a whopping 22-minute epic track, 'Nine Feet Underground' - this is a bowler-overer of pastoral, humorous and fantastical sounds.

Review: The Savage Planet is a masterpiece of French science fiction. An adult animation, the plot asks what would happen if the human race was essentially abducted by an alien species, taken to another world, and either kept as pets or allowed to roam free in the wildness, unharmed save for when the population starts to become too unwieldy and a cull is needed. Suffice to say, things don't stay in this strange disharmonious bondage for too long, but rather than spoil things we implore you to track it down and watch. Alain Goraguer's soundtrack only adds to the strength of the viewing experience, and although hearing it alone isn't quite the same thing, the quality of what's here makes for a great listen. Spanning moments that sound a little on the Pink Floyd side of life, strange surrealist circus fanfares, floatation tank fodder, psychedelic rock, jazz and funk, suffice to say it has proved a sampler's delight over the years.

Review: Decca Records, a champion of British jazz and particularly the homegrown talent of the 50s, 60s and 70s, continues its exploration of those eras. Curated by Mark Baxter, this is the perfect entry point for those unfamiliar with the virtuoso saxophonist, flautist, vibraphonist and composer Hayes, gathering ten tracks originally recorded for the Fontana label between 1961 and 1969 and answering to the question "Where do I start with Tubby Hayes?" Review: Released in 1964, groundbreaking hard bop classic Breaking Point! marked a departure for trumpet legend Freddie Hubbard. Having established himself with The Jazz Messengers, this album showed him breaking out as a player with some daring and expressive playing that went full tilt into modal sequences and rapid fire notes that shook up the state of play and showed new possibilities for jazz as the 60s progressed. In its position between wild experimentation and tradition, it retains musical form which makes the edgier angles go down very smoothly indeed. You can see why this would be a candidate for Decca's Tone Poet series - Hubbard's expression has rarely been matched, in composition or execution.
