Review: Scrupulously heavy and skanky Netherlands dub comes swanging our way from Bukkha, in collaboration with Dubbing Sun and Donovan Kingjay. 'Whip Dem' hears the Jamaican-American producer's dubwise productions meet fellow artists from Austria and South East London respectively; Kingjay's vocals deliver a powerful message of justice and liberation over a deep, clean steppers' riddim. Meanwhile, the B-side features Frenk Dublin's EchoSpace remix, which while adding more delay to the original, detracts nothing from its timely sense of space and weight.

Review: J:Kenzo's Lion Charge label is a surefire authority in the realm of contemporary roots-minded dubstep, and so it goes with this new bombshell from Bukkha and Dubbing Sun. "Beat Sound" is a massive stepper with a malevolent bassline to get totally consumed by, embellished by Teacha Dee toasting and singing perfectly over the top. It's the first 12" from Lion Charge this year, and sets them off in the kind of heavyweight dread direction that will hopefully give rise to more of these devastatingly effective soundsystem smashers. The true spirit of dubstep is alive and well in records like this, where the legacy of Jamaican music can be felt pulsating across the frequency range.

Review: Moonshine Recordings brings some sunshine into a bleak mid-winter with this new 7" from Caveman Dub and Dubbing Sun featuring Lady Skavya. The A-side is 'Inspiration' and is presented as a Studio As One remix with some sensors horn sounds over the rolling drubs and sleek digital synths. It expansive and loose and lovely with some yanking vocals the subtle finishing touch. On the flip is a Studio As One dub version that is more heavy on the mixing decks, with oodles of echo and reverb fleshing it out into something perfect for smoking sessions.

Review: This is a serious weight serving of dub that sounds truly deadly on the right system. It comes from a gaggle of producers and MCs as far as Austria (the Dubbing Sun collective), Spain by way of Louisiana(Bukkha) and Belgium (Digid) all mixed in with a healthy dose of Babylon bliss. Opener "The Journey" has rumbling kicks stumbling beneath taut electronic chords as Ras Addis' mutterings continually melt away. This is followed by a more upbeat and driven remix before the tense beatless version closes things out.

Review: The Dubbing Sun collective hails from Austria. It has appeared on a broad range of contemporary labels, helping to drive the deep dubstep scene forwards in recent years. Their sounds now come on this lush orange marbled 10 inch vinyl and as ever is seriously heavy. Opener 'Hail Jah' has some spiritual pads and lots of wide open space for the wispy leads to drift through. The bass and drums have plenty of wobble and sci-fi effects finish it in futurist style. 'Evilman' is more dread-fulled and dark, with stepping drums leaning into the shadows.

Review: Main man Echo Ranks brings his meditative messages on "Politician" above some heavyweight and decidedly modern dub from Dubbing Sun on Moonshine. Such conscious messages will always make their mark when delivered on a decisive dub - the hits are fresh, the bass has that swagger and the whole mood is shady and nocturnal. Small Town offers a tricky "Dubz Roots" version while Radical Guru offers more broken beat and destructive remixes on the flip-side for when you need to rip the floor apart. Add in those warrior leads and you've got a real standout dub.

Review: We write this a day after 4/20 so it is almost perfect timing for the latest Moonshine Recordings 7" to drop with such lovey artwork and stoner sounds. It's a joint production effort between Radikal Guru & Dubbing Sun with Cheshire Cat toasting over the top about his love of the green stuff. The production is a mix of dub, raga and reggae with clean digital pianos and fat, textured bass. The punchy riddim is one to get any sound system crowd going, and then on the flip it's paired back to a slower, more seductive sound. A fine pick up for any pot and dub heads.
