Review: For the latest must-check missive on their self-titled label, London twosome Make-a-Dance have decided to pay tribute to the formative 'garage-house' sounds made for, and played at, New York clubs in the mid 1980s. Rising star Magari steps up first with 'Mars Bar', a Larry Levan-friendly affair where soulful, reggae style vocal samples ride a Boyd Jarvis-esque bassline and warm synths. It's very authentic to the sound being paid tribute to, as is Mark Seven's accompanying (and lightly freestyle influenced) 'Parkway Power' rework. Over on the reverse, Ilija Rudman takes over with 'Danceteria', a proto-garage house affair whose title offers a nod to the infamous NYC venue of the same name. Manuel Durquart remixes, retaining the nostalgic vibe while adding extra trippy layers of sound, a sturdier early NYC house groove and mazy synth solos.

Review: A blast from the past becomes neoblast, as Bologna's Maze crew grow back their most vital tech trance genes, calling up three new artists whose sensibility remains "new" despite a good bulk of their work stretching back over at least 20 years. The New Alumnists and Ilija Rudman were mostly active from the 2000s on, where the former's early itchy house hits like 'Get On Down' and 'Espanol' took a UK airbrush to French touch (no-one said don't touch), and the latter's deep house movements took on a classiest style with 'Hours/Moving Back'. But these are all unreleased: 'Triplex' is pregnant with organ and stab, with a lead femme vox musing on the fine decor in a technophile's apartment, while Rudman's 'Affair' and 'You And Me' carry the ones and twos through fine vocoder play and new wave drum mashings. Newcomer Max On Wax freshens the proceedings with 'Non-Pragmatic Analysis', his twinkly brand of electro advocating an unmeasured approach to life.

Review: Fresh from releasing his "Sagittarii" album on Bear Funk, the ever-prolific Ilija Rudman is back on his own label Imogen with two stellar remixes from the mighty Ron Trent. First up is the vocal mix of the track, keeping Andre Espeut's passionate voice front and centre around a classy cascade of pattering rhythm and swirling deeper than deep keys. On the flip you get treated to the Imogen Soundsystem edit of Trent's instrumental, which finds the track charting a course for the stars in the most delicate and elegant of ways. Truly life affirming, soul-soaked stuff.

Review: On this sampler EP for the Razor N Tape label's latest Family Affair compilation, the Brooklyn based imprint showcases previously unheard cuts from a mixture of new artists and long-established names. In the latter camp you'll find long-serving deep house don Vincenzo, who delivers the gorgeous, tactile and loved-up deliciousness of 'Love Accurate', and Croatian nu-disco don Ilya Rudman (the acid-heavy dancefloor squelch of 'Discoteka Parmida'). Elsewhere, Yasmin impresses with the neo-soul/nu-disco fusion warmth of 'Real High', Arnau Obiols slams down the Fela-influenced Afrobeat excellence of 'Pagan Mambo', and label co-founder J Kriv turns Bessa Simons 'Si Naana' into an Afro-tinged analogue house treat
