Review: Canadian-born, LA-based artist Mocky brings a disarmingly human touch to his first release for Stones Throw, a project centred on the richness of the voice as a communal instrument. Built with close friends gathered in his garage, the album resists digital sterility in favour of warmth and grain, with layered harmonies, live instrumentation and tape-recorded charm capturing something deeply analogue and alive. 'Infinite Vibrations' and 'Just A Little Lovin' balance gospel warmth with minimalist groove, while 'Wiggle Room' and 'Choir Beat' lean into playful vocal percussion. There's a through-line of intimacyitracks like 'Walking (Theme)' and '1000 Goodbyes' carry a sketch-like immediacy, like overheard ideas mid-bloom. Somewhere between soul, choral experiment and soft psych, this record feels like a family room jam reimagined as quiet protest against digital alienation. A celebration of imperfections, of singing together, and of sound as something tactile, felt, and free.

Review: When it came to recording his sixth full-length excursion, Mocky had a simple plan. The Toronto-raised musician decided to book out legendary Los Angeles recording studio United for a day, invite along a swathe of talented musician friends - Lucky Paul, Mark De Clive-Lowe, Nia Andrews and Joey Dosik included - and record the improvised results straight to tape. Staggeringly, those results are superb, with the assembled cast serving up musically rich and complex soundscapes that variously doff a cap to classic jazz, boogie, swing, neo-classical, Reich and Riley style minimalism, pastoral folk, broken beat, Jon Hassell style "Fourth World" music, and much more besides.
