Review: Patrice Rushen's Remind Me: The Classic Elektra Recordings 1978-1984 celebrates the unmatched talent of a jazz and r&b legend whose influence extends far beyond her chart success. Rushen's songs, including hits like 'Forget Me Nots' and 'Haven't You Heard,' have left an indelible mark on popular music, with countless artists sampling her work. Despite facing criticism and lackluster label support, Rushen's crossover into sophisticated urban pop paved the way for future R&B and hip-hop hits. This compilation shows Rushen's talents as a musician and arranger, with her production providing the building blocks for decades of musical innovation. Tracks like 'Givin' It Up Is Givin' Up' and 'Remind Me' highlight Rushen's electrifying performances and innovative sound. Rushen's timeless music remains as relevant and influential as ever, cementing her status as a true icon of musical innovation and creativity.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Box slightly torn and creased, but content in perfect condition***

Patrice Rushen's album from1982, Straight From The Heart,' is a real landmark, It now gets presented as a definitive version by Strut. It was made during a period when the original label were striving to make 'sophisticated dance music.' Mission accomplished. This is an album packed with high class arrangements and disco and boogie stylings along with great musicianship. Patrcei's own vocals explore a broader range than ever before, and singles from the seminal album included 'Breakout!', 'Number One' and the most ionic of them all, 'Forget Me Nots'. The album overall had huge success, was a Billboard Chart hit and became a regular source for samples in the world of hip hop and R&B as well as picking up a Grammy nomination.

Review: By the time Patrice Rushen released Straight From The Heart in 1982, she was undoubtedly at the top of her game. The set remains one of the finest albums of the post-disco/boogie era, offering an enticing mix of genuine club classics (see 'Forget Me Nots', which was later heavily sampled by Will Smith on 'Men in Black', 'Number One', 'Breakout' and 'I'm Tired of Being Alone') and overlooked slow hams ('Where There Is Love', 'If Only' and the seductive 'Remind Me'). This expanded, double vinyl edition of the album is probably the definitive version, featuring as it does extended 12" versions of the set's most revered moments, not to mention a louder, more DJ-friendly cut.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

Strut continues to mine the back catalogue of disco and boogie-era soul star Patrice Rushen with a much-needed reissue of her 1980 set "Posh". Produced by Rushen alongside Charles Mims Jr, the set not only contains a string of fine club cuts - think "Never Gonna Give You Up", the bustling and joyous "Look Up" (an extended version of which is tagged on to the end of the CD as a great bonus) and "The Funk Won't Let You Down") - but also boasts some of the most exciting and interesting arrangements in the legendary disco diva's discography. It's musically vibrant, too, with the assembled players delivering killer grooves (slap-bass abounds), punchy horns, seductive orchestration and heaps of rush-inducing solos.

Review: Given the stone-cold-classic status of Patrice Rushen's disco-era recordings on Elektra, it's little surprise to see Strut offering up this superb retrospective of that key period in her career. Naturally, the big club hits are present - "Feels So Real (Can't Let Go)", "Haven't You Heard", "Number One" and "Forget Me Nots" - but it's the quality of the lesser celebrated cuts and album tracks that most impresses. For proof, check the sharp horns and good grooves of "Look Up (Extended Version)", the breezy boogie bounce of "Never Gonna Give You Up (Won't Let You be)" and the electric piano solo-laden seductiveness of "Remind Me (LP Version)". There's naturally plenty of sweet slow jams to savour, too, those to our ears these pale in comparison to Rushen's dancefloor-focused output.
