Review: GAMM welcome a new face into the fold in the shape of Stockholm's Seegweed, who aptly demonstrates his panache for the edit on some classic jams. Spread across the A Side, Seegweed drops a subtle take on Angela Bofill's Stylistics cover, clearly not wanting to mess with a classic like "People Make The World Go Round". Deft percussive touches and some bottom end embellishment are added to the core which takes full effect on the midpoint break. On the flip the jazz funk break delight of Ben Sidran's "About Love" gets the subtle Seegweed treatment, and he does a neat job of extending out the sweetness that is Sly & The Family Stone's "Family Affair".

Review: The first Island Disco 12", released earlier in the Spring, was something of a must-have for those who like their funk, soul and disco served with a healthy dollop of tropical flavour. Predictably, this second installment in the bootleg series is similarly essential. There's some Clavinet-heavy disco-soul swing in the shape of Duke's superb "Is It Groovy Now", a thrillingly percussive, Hammond-heavy boogaloo workout from Tremille & The Jamals, a frankly bizarre - but brilliant - fusion of Cajan violins and disco rhythms from Shadow, and a certified disco banger from Gerald PJ Browne (the hustlin' brilliance of "Sexy Lady"). All Killer, no filler.

Review: Way back in 1999, Acid Jazz Records launched an offshoot dedicated to disco edits: Original Sound Track Recordings. The best of the series' many superb reworks were later gathered together on a compilation album on EMI that now changes hands for significant sums online. Happily, they've decided to reissue some of their early releases, beginning with this 7" of Family Tree featuring Sharon Brown's "Family Tree". You'll find the peerless original - a breakbeat-driven chunk of lolloping funk brilliance - on Side A, with the label's 2002 "Super Disco Break Beat" version on the flip. Inspired by hip-hop DJs doubling up the track's brilliant drum breaks, it's a killer percussion workout with a few quick blasts of funk energy and carefully placed special effects (think flanged drums, reversed sections and so on).

Review: On April 6 2020, DJ Oonops will notch up his 100th show on Brooklyn Radio. To celebrate, the popular NYC DJ has partnered with Austria's Agogo records to deliver this celebratory 7" featuring three previously unreleased tracks. Side A boasts King Most's "Jazzy As Fogg", a fine chunk of instrumental hip-hop goodness rich in jazzy and life-affirming samples that reminded us a little of the kind of head-nodding dancefloor fare once released by Manchester's Grand Central Records. Side B begins with a superb neo-soul/R&B riff on classic song "Que Sera" from Canadians Mike Clay and Sara Diamond, before German DJs Stefan "Merse" Ulrich and DJ Robert Smith join forces as Slick Walk on the short, scratch happy, Fingathing style workout "The Devil's Lick".

Review: Picture disc vibes from veteran Dutch party starters Kraak & Smaak with "Dynamite" the prelude for a third album due out later this year on spiritual home Jalapeno Records. Seemingly occupying the previously unmined space where breaks, electro, deep house, funk and mainland European rap meet, "Dynamite" is idiosyncratically Kraak & Smaak in it's delivery, aided and abetted by the contribution of DJ Git Hyper and Sebastian (not thAt one!) A less flammable but equally danceable Boogie Funk remix from Kraak & Smaak driven by a funked out bassline occupies the B Side.

Review: For their latest must-check release, Rocafort Records has dipped into the Seattle soul scene in order to showcase the sounds of two interconnected bands, both of which are directed by (and feature performances from) trumpeter Joel Ricci, bassist Joel Gray and saxophonist Art Brown. On the A-side, the L.B's deliver a brilliantly infectious, percussive, funky and horn-heavy cover of Willie Bobo's rare groove classic 'Broasted or Fried'. It sounds like it was recorded live at an electric, energy-charged session - as if you're eves dropping on an intimate backyard funk gig. Equally as potent - if a little deeper, slower and more solo-laden - is the South Path Ensemble's impressive flipside, 'Stop Tryin'.

Review: The latest audio missive from Funkineven's Apron camp has been receiving a lot of heat, and it's easy to see why. In typical style, both tracks take classic boogie and '80s soul jams, impressively mangling them in distinctly different ways. Mighty Baron III's "Screwed" is a "chopped and screwed" masterpiece - a fusion of sludgy, slowed-down electrfunk loops, pitched-down vocals and wonky beatbox rhythms. It's distinctively odd, but really rather special. Flip for the Sun Runners' "The Finest", a smart and melodious S.O.S Band re-edit that's been pepped up with additional drum machine hits and special effects. It will do the business on both boogie and R&B dancefloors.

Review: More cheeky 45 party power from Aldo Vanucci and Del Gazeebo as they hit their third Soul Flip edit release of the year. Martha Reeves & The Vandellas 1968 letter to gabber DJs of the future "I Can't Dance To That Music You're Playing" gets a subtle stomp in the beat department while Sugar Pie Desanto's 1966 R&B pant swinger "Go Go Power" gets the extension its also deserved. Go go Soul Flip.

Review: Stefano Tirone has been a stalwart of the Italian scene since making his debut on legendary Italian house label Calypso Records way back in 1992. Since then, his productions have become increasingly more jazz and soul focused, with a sizeable side order of groovy downtempo beats. His latest seven-inch single begins with "Try My Love", a hazy chunk of head-nodding jazz-funk/soul fusion rich in languid synthesizer solos, lazy grooves, hazy horns and soulful vocals. It's really good all told, though we'd argue that flipside "Odoya" - a wiggling chunk of Afro-tinged mid-tempo funk - is even better. Either way, it's another rock solid release from the effervescent Tirone.

Review: Those Scandinavian merchants of mischievous beats known as GAMM turn to the Catalonian sun for their latest twelve inch excursion, as Pablo Sanchez adds to his production CV with two cuts. The A Side sees "Yes We Can Can" from Pointer Sisters tuned inside out and embellished with some mid tempo bombastic disco dub sensibilities that further demonstrates the Barcelona based producer's skill at chopping samples. On the flip Sanchez melds some of Thelonius Monk's finest jazz flourishes to a classic jeep beat bump which should satisfy anyone who is down with the likes of Keepup! Records.

Review: Sauce 81, aka Japanese RBMA alumni Nobu Suzuki, lays down two starlight stunners for a fine 7" debut on the Eglo label operated by Alex Nut and Sam Floating Points. "Natural Thing" is an unashamed, effortlessly hooky boogie jam that sits somewhere between the Funkadelic adventures of George Clinton and Kool & the Gang. "Bustin" meanwhile was originally made for Shing02's short movie of the same name. All slinky and whispering, it's like Samuel L Jackson whispering sweet nothings in your ear over a Faze-O track.
