Review: Raw post-punk trio Abdomen trade in the heavier end of the genre unafraid to douse distortion and fuzz onto everything and create music so exciting it would be hard not to want to throw yourself into a circle put for, 'Damage Tool' is a breathtaking way to get things started and 'Numbers' makes Fontaines DC sound like Boyzone. They are capable of slowing down - 'Dazed' has been slowed into a hypnotic Spacemen 3-esque psych/shoegaze jam. The band are relative newcomers and not widely known... yet. But this is going to be one of those albums you'll be kicking yourself for not having a first pressing of. Abdomen is only going to get bigger and it will give the Tapetown studio in Aarhus, Denmark - where they recorded this - more bragging rights for being among the coolest alternative music spaces in Europe.

Review: Vashti Bunyan's latest piece offers a serene journey through delicate folk landscapes. The expanded edition takes these already beautiful tracks and enhances them, giving them a richer, fuller texture. Bunyan's soft vocals, laden with vulnerability, intertwine perfectly with the gentle instrumentation, creating an album that's both calming and emotionally stirring. It's easy to see why it became a cult classiciher ethereal storytelling and minimalistic approach resonate with anyone who's ever sought solace in music's simplicity. This edition elevates it further, making it an essential listen.

Review: Following on from 2023's acclaimed debut full-length All Gas No Brakes, Bristolian noise-punks Heavy Lungs return with the definition of an antithetical sophomore LP with Caviar. Clocking in at under 30 minutes (significantly less than their initial outing) and recorded live in dingy church rehearsal spaces to capture the unhinged intensity of their live performances, this is the sound of a band vehemently disinterested with mainstream appeal, exposure or playing the game by any terms apart from their own. While vocalist Danny Nedelko would be the named subject of one of the biggest singles from fellow Bristol natives Idles' 2018 breakout second album Joy As An Act Of Resistance, where his peers have expanded their sound and embraced myriads of melody, Heavy Lungs are poignantly going the opposite route, full speed towards oblivion with only chaos and anarchy on their collective minds.

Review: Elijah Minnelli is a noted mixologist and aspiring travel agent but here collaborates with four reggae vocalists to reinterpret traditional and folk songs. Jamaican legend Little Roy brings warmth to the anti-war hymn 'Vine and Fig Tree' then Shumba Youth revives the traditional ballad 'A' Soulin'' by energising it with dancehall rhythms. Roots reggae icon Earl Sixteen infuses a poignant 1959 disaster tale with deep emotion and Bristol's Joe Yorke offers a haunting rendition of Shakespeare's 'The Wind & The Rain.' Each track is paired with a live dub version for fresh instrumental takes on these reimagined classics.
