Minimal House/Tech House
Panta Rei (Balearic mix)
Panta Rei (Danton Eeprom remix)
Panta Rei (Eduardo De La Calle Analog Solutions remix)
Review: InFine boss Agoria returns with three versions of "Panta Rei". Opening proceedings on the A-Side is the decidedly trippy Balearic version, which skips along with shimmering keys and shuffling, unobtrusive rhythms. Next up, French dandy Danton Eeprom turns in a tweak that reaches for the stars, adding an extra sheen of hedonism to those twinkling arpeggiated synths. It's left up to Eduardo De La Calle of Analog Solutions to restore some grit to proceedings with a rubbery techno interpretation that adorns the B-Side.

Review: Sebastien Devaud, or Agoria as he is more commonly known, fell in love: so much so in fact, that his latest album Impermanence was apparently the outcome. He claims it was the "quickest and easiest" album of his four to date, and as the French producer announces he is to mix the upcoming Fabric compilation, Impermanence on his own imprint Infine continues to garner support. Vocal appearances from the deeply rooted Carl Craig (in fine form here), boy wonder Seth Troxler and the hauntingly beautiful croonings of Kid A offer more than collaboration variance, as does the entire collection of tracks. "Kiss My Soul's" whispering elegance, the downright dirty "Speechless" and the techno fuelled 'Little Shaman' are just three examples of how this album twists and turns through a plethora of influence and diversity. "Under The River" showcases an experimental and surreal side to the album while "Simon" is sheer glitch and twitch weirdness. Impermanence is an impressive journey and incorporates just about every angle Agoria could find to play with whilst on his romantic and irrevocable fall into the depths of the atmosphere of love.

Review: Lucie Antunes broadens her sonic horizons with her superb second album, Carnaval. The French composer brings together pop and avant guard ideas with her background as a classically-trained drummer and percussionist. What results is an ebullient brew of electronically inclined sounds that unite people across genre boundaries on the dancefloor. Leonie Pernet is on board for production and the human voice features for the first time in her work, but in a heavily manipulated form that still manages to convey meaning and message. Cerebral yet mischievous, this is a standout sophomore from Antunes.

Review: The Glassforms collaborative project is a meeting of two different but equally brilliant minds in innovative pianist Bruce Brubaker and scientist turned electronic artist Max Cooper. Here they take Philip Glass's musicians use it as a source for fortress exploration and expression. Cooper actually built a new system for musical expression through coding with software developer Alexander Randon and created a way to take live information from a piano and transform it into new forms that drive his synths. The resulting collision of piano and synth is an utterly dynamic and beguiling one.

Review: Carl Craig first started working with Paris' Les Siecles Orchestra and classical pianist Francesco Tristano well over a decade ago. Versus, then, has been a long time in the making. A true collaborative project, it features both orchestral interpretations of a string of Craig classics - "Sandstorms" and "At Les" included - alongside the Detroit producer's versions of works by Tristano and Les Siecles Orchestra. As Jeff Mills has proved on numerous occasions, orchestral/electronic collaborations can work well, and so it proves with Versus. At times it's intricate and evocative, at others throbbing and grandiose, as befits interpretations of tracks whose appeal is based, in part, on their locked-in, repetitive hypnotism.

Repeat
Review: Mixing the elegance of electronica mastermind Murcof and the minimal orientations of Fax, Cubenx is emerging as the rising figure of the fresh and exciting Mexican school. On the third instalment for Agoria's label InFine, Cubenx reveals the first traits of his creativity with two tracks that not only speak to one's mind but also invite one to inescapable dance steps. Based in Mexico, radio programmer and unstoppable music lover, Cesar Urbina (aka Cubenx) started with releasing a collection of splendid minimalist tracks. "Glandula" wraps progressive rhythms around a classy melody for a hypnotic round trip from Mexico to Berlin. With a blend of Indie-tronica and organic sounds, approaching Nathan Fake's latest productions, "Repeat" raves over intricate beats and dizzy waves for a post rock trip over a Caribbean sea.

Donso (literally hunter) is the unexpected union of Krazy Baldhead, rising figure of the Ed Banger imprint, of a Malian singer with a unique voice, Gedeon and Thomas, a master instrumentalist of the Donso n' Goni. Review: Hard-working experimental music types Downliners Sekt are masters of the deep, woozy, claustrophobic groove. This third full length - their first for acclaimed French imprint Infine - is jam-packed with such moments of smoky goodness, all soft-focus rhythms, dubwise chords and long-drawn out pads. It's intoxicating, all right, and evokes hazy memories of sitting in smoke-filled rooms early in the morning, feeling strangely in tune with the bubbling, off-kilter rhythms seeping from the speakers. Highlights are pleasingly plentiful, from the jumpy dreaminess of "This American Life" and vintage Hyperdub deepness of "Eiger Dreams", to the cascading pianos and field recordings of "Junior High" and tough, dancefloor-focused "Once Mercurial".

Give Me Pain (7" edit)
Vivid Love (7" edit)
Review: It’s quite surprising that someone who got their break in the Berlin electro scene would make something that on first listen would sound so French, albeit via musical stops in a couple of Californian locales.

Give me Pain (Give me More) by Danton Eeprom begins like LA’s Neptunes covering something on Parisian 80’s Mutant-Jazz label Ze (perhaps Lizzy Mercier Descloux) and ends like a mis-remembered San-Franciscan psyche-organ freakout.

The journey from one continent to the other is enabled by Eeprom’s raw bass-grooving being subtly and consistently interrupted by horn and key infused new-jazz build ups, reminiscent of 4 hero. With some new-wave delay and luscious melodic flourishes, Eeprom manages to combine his underground influences with a dark pop sensibility that becomes at once familiar and progressive.

Disposable Darling
Review: After an absence of a good few years, Clara Moto makes a welcome return to her regular stomping ground Infine with an EP that points to a full-length album Blue Distance later in the Autumn. Many of the emotive tendencies Moto has forged her name on remain intact, even if some of the stylistic decisions point to new horizons for the Austrian artist. The EP kicks off with an earnest cover of Chris Isaak's perennial noir-ballad "Wicked Game", working Lee Burton and Mimu's vocals over a delicate and stirring house template. Meanwhile the title track changes tact drastically with an engaging dubstep-informed electronica excursion equal parts moody and meaningful. "Shade" gets back to the more functional realms of deep house in its crisp beat and humming chords, while "Disposable Darling" uses the 4/4 blueprint as a jump off point for a more dramatic construction imbued with classical tones.

Review: Barely aged 24, Clara Moto already demonstrates an incredible maturity. After a childhood lit up by jazz and classic piano studies, she now stands up as one of the new faces of the Austrian electronic scene, having set her own label Houseverbot and in organizing the reputable Birds parties at the Postgarage of Graz. Discovered at the latest editions of Sonar and Montreux festivals, Clara cultivates a femininity and an uncommon elegance on the fringes of minimal, microhouse and electronica through her Live, Dj-sets and productions. A rare appeal that convinced Fine Funk to roll out the red Carpet for this new EP 'Glove Affair', which displays three facets of a fresh and strikingly innovative personality with an unquestionable imperial class.

Review: It's been a fair old while since the last full-length from French techno pioneer Olivier "Oxia" Raymond; in fact, his only previous album was released eight years ago, way back in 2004. Tides Of Mind bears little resemblance to that set, which bristled with aggressive electronic intent. Instead, Raymond delivers at set that borrows as much from deep house and Germanic minimalism as traditional techno. Of course, there's the odd trip into skewed downtempo pop territory (see the dreamy Mesparrow collaboration "Travelling Fast") and some deviation from the 4/4 template - see "Sway" - but for the most part Raymond keeps the vibe deep, melodic and surprisingly soulful.

Review: Infine France is a real seal of quality, the label carrying this release, and lauded producer-DJ Agoria's own little corner of the electronic music world. Comparatively unlike many other imprints we know of, it's a place where heartbreaking experimental pianos regularly collide with classical symphonies and operatic nuances. On this collection of remixes of Rone, the variety is similarly broad.

One look at who's involved should make that clear already, though. Opening on one of melodic techno's biggest names, Maceo Plex, from that string-dominated, harmonious chugger we move onto more leftfield sounds. Whether that's the atmospheric sci-fi electro step of Plaid's take on the original album's title track, Room With A View, Kmru's vast but desolate ambient interpretation of the same number, or rapidly rising dance star Loraine James' fast-paced, staccato bass version of 'Ginkgo Biloba'.

Review: Inspired by the pressing issue of climate change and ecological catastrophe, Rone's latest album grew out of a commission he received from Paris' Theatre du Chatelet to create a live show featuring 20 dancers from the Ballet National de Marseille. Interestingly, he decided to use the show as an excuse to go "back to basics" and create the kind of electronic music he made during the early part of his career. The results are largely impressive, sitting somewhere between synth-wave, IDM, ambient and off-kilter experimentalism. Highlights come thick and fast throughout, from the melodic arpeggio lines and hypnotic grooves of "Nouveau Monde", and the layered haziness of "Room With A View", to the skewed dub techno pulse of "Liminal Space" and the near symphonic bliss of "Babel".

Review: French electronic music maverick Erwan Castex aka Rone drops an LP for his native InFine imprint! This, as one would expect from Castex by now, is an excursion into the deepest depth of the synthesizer. There are both moments of total abstraction, such as on "(OO)" and "Ouija", and of sheer delicacy on the wonderful "Acid Reflux" or "Memory". The most impressive aspect of the album is Rone's technical ability, a freedom to express even the wildest of ideas into a concrete groove and sonic structure. Recommended.

Review: Few British techno acts are quite as lauded as British Murder Boys, the industrial strength collaboration between Regis and Surgeon. Throughout the early-to-mid 2000s, their distinctive EPs provided the soundtrack to many great moments in dusty basements, dark rooms and sweat-soaked raves. Whether you missed out first time around or simply want a trip down memory lane, this career retrospective should be an essential purchase. Alongside 12 hand picked tracks from the catalogue - the vast majority in their rolling, pounding, industrial strength style - the package also includes in-depth sleeve notes from Blackest Ever Black boss Kiran Sande, and a DVD of the duo's dystopian 2013 live show at Club Unit, Tokyo (excerpts from which were released on 12" last year).

Review: Agoria's InFine imprint indulges in a fascinating sonic experiment, with classically trained pianist Ben Klock - better known as the chiselled techno producer and resident at Berghain - remixing Luxembourgian pianist and electronic/classical composer Francesco Tristano's "Idiosynkrasia", the title track from his recently released album. Klock twists the original into a scorching minimalist roller, with computerised bleeps riding atop a scratchy mechanised rhythm designed to envelope your senses. Perlon and Circus Company affiliated producer Ark turns in a more direct remix of the same track, opting instead to cut and chop the bleeps n squeaks into a rolling groove replete with some nice piano flourishes. Flip over for the squelchy melodic thrust of Fumiya Tanaka's remix, with the revered Japanese producer brilliant melding a farty bassline with the most delicate of ivory tinkling.
