Review: UK re-edit label Moton Inc. present more late night boogie down antics the way the man upstairs intended and courtesy of two undisputed experts. The first is Greg Belson: a veteran known as the 'go to authoritarian for gospel soul music', compiler of the Divine Disco series and host of the Divine Chord Gospel Show on LA's dublab.com. He teams up with Paulo Fulci: a DJ and producer out of Bristol who some of you may know from his work as part of the Situation edit crew. Some crafty resplices on offer here: the A side features the funky and lo-slung life affirmer "The Problem Solver, while on the flip there's an uplifting dose of classic disco on "Brand New Feelin'" and some good ol' fashioned soul power as heard on "Try Love".

Review: Seven years ago, renowned crate digger Greg Belson joined forces with Situation's Paulo Fulci to launch Divine Situation, an edits project dedicated to club-ready extensions and scalpel style rearrangements of gospel-fired dancefloor workouts of old. Here, their first two-tracker - now an in-demand item online - returns to stores, this time pressed to eye-catching yellow vinyl. A-side and title track 'Born Again' is particularly potent - a suitably uplifting and life-affirming chunk of gospel disco pleasure rich in swirling orchestration, twittering clarinet motifs, killer grooves and soulful lead vocals. The original is great but the edit, which extends key instrumental passages before dropping into the vocal, is also superb. Turn to the flip for 'Soul Revival', a heavy, constantly building slab of gospel soul power built around raw grooves and impassioned vocals.

Review: Private press disco/boogie specialist and all-round font of all record knowledge The Mighty Zaf returns to Moton for the first time since 2016, bringing with him a trio of re-edits made in tribute to the late, great Phil Asher. Check first A-side 'Things Could Be', a gorgeous, life-affirming and effortlessly soulful tweak of a loved-up slab of Philadelphia International style early disco, before admiring the more down-low vibes of 'Connect Here', where incessant male vocal improvisations, cut-glass strings and twinkling instrumental solos catch the ear. To round off an essential EP, the veteran DJ/collector offers up 'Gee Oh Dee', a hands-aloft slab of eyes-closed independent disco dustiness given the lightest of re-touches.

Review: The Patchouli Brothers from Toronto share an affinity for the strange side of house, disco, soul and esoteric sounds as heard on Defected, Soundway, GAMM, Star Creature, Pleasure of Love and Basic Fingers. They are resident DJs at Beam Me Up, a weekly disco night in Toronto and a monthly party in Montreal. They now present four scorching edits here on Moton: kicking off with the heart warming soul power of 'Lead Astray', the energetic funk explosion of 'Kin Sol', as well as the sexy late night boogie-down vibe of 'Can't Get You Down'. Also on the flip is a nice track ending on a low slung and slo-mo tip titled 'Project Soul'.

Review: Moton delivers once again with a carefully curated three track EP that's been worth the wait for their loyal fanbase. Expertly edited by Ghosted Edits aka David Hill, this release offers something for every discerning selector. The A-side kicks off with an infectious 80s-style boogie disco track, designed to ignite the dancefloor. Flip it over, and you'll find a powerful gospel-infused vocal dancer, followed by a smooth soul 2-stepper with a hint of Balearic sunshine. A proper poolside gem, this EP promises to keep the vibes high.

Review: 2022 has been a hugely successful year for Razor N Tape founder JKriv, whose various singles, remixes and re-edits have all hit the mark. His final release of 2022 sees him serve up four more hot-to-trot edits for the long-running Moton label. On opener 'Repent', the Escort bass player serves up a fine rearrangement of a spacey synth-sporting disco-funk obscurity, while 'Lingala Nacionale' is a fast paced, turn-of-the-80s Afro-disco number with strong vocals, beats and jangly guitars. Over on side B, JKriv first gives his interpretation of a squelchy Caribbean boogie gem from Tappa Zukie ('Love Dream'), before dipping the tempo a touch on a suitably summery rework of a sun-baked Brazilian disco-boogie gem.

Review: Under the Linkwood alias, Nick Moore has released a wealth of fine material since debuting in the late 2000s - including a string of sublime albums and EPs. Last year he popped his re-edit cherry alongside The Mighty Zaf via a two-tracker paying tribute to the late, great Phil Asher. Here he takes the next step, delivering a first solo scalpel missive via the reliable and long-running Moton imprint. On side A, the Edinburgh producer attempts to 'Make It Better' via a razor-and-tape style edit of a slap-bass-sporting, synth-wielding slice of early 80s disco-boogie perfection. We have no idea of the source material, but the lightly extended track is as infectious as it is intriguing. Over on side B, 'No Easy' is a sweet, string-laden slab of mid-tempo disco-soul sweetness, while 'Brekkers' is a squelchy, up-tempo electrofunk workout tailor-made for break-dancers.

Review: Red Greg, on Moton, delivers a trio of edits of obscure cuts from his seemingly endless record collection. Ten-minute A-side "Movin" is an undulating disco treat built around a killer bassline, twinkling melodies, punchy orchestration and one hell of a female vocal. On the flip you'll find the jaunty, horn-heavy disco-funk bump of "Desire", a superb rework of a barely known, bilingual gem, and the spiraling Caribbean disco-funk insanity that is peak-time workout/synthesizer wig-out "Trinidad Duke". All three edits have been "secret weapons" for the dusty-fingered DJ for some time, and can now be yours for less than nine English pounds. What's not to like?
