Adding to its pedigree, Alpha One features musicians from the iconic band Change who ensure an authentic and electrifying boogie funk sound. And that is what we have here on new single 'Changes' which will get any ass-shaking and floor pumping with its irresistible synth lines and vocals. Flip it over for an instrumental that is more dialled back and direct.

Review: Brother II was an exceptional synth-boogie band in the early 1980s that were formed by, ahem, brothers J. and M. Soso. Their track 'You Was Born' stands as a real gem of of the era that cooly embodies the essence of boogie funk when synths defined the musical landscape. The track's infectious bassline is effortlessly grooving and paired with an unshakeable rhythm and a rich, dominant synth-driven vibe. As a foundational sound of the genre back then, 'You Was Born' is a rather overlooked gem.

Review: This is one of a couple of proper holy grail boogie funk gems that French label PBT are dropping this month. Love At First Sight by First Love was originally released in 1982 out of Chicago and is a rare gem that captures the peak of modern soul and funk. Led by powerhouse vocalist Yvonne Gage (who is credited as Yvine Gage), the newly reissued record deals in rich production by Randy B and Chuck Colbert, who are icons of the genre. Standout tracks include the synth-drenched 'Don't Say Goodnight' and the smooth, late-night groove 'Party Lights', while 'Don't Be Afraid' is a sentinel, string-laced slow burner. With deep basslines, tight drums, and lush synths throughout, this one is a real heart melter.

Review: Holy grail alert! This gem from the 80s boogie scene is an ultra-rare 1983 release on Starville Records that is now finally reissued after decades of scarcity. Long coveted by collectors and often fetching €800-€1000 a pop, the standout track of the two is 'I Wanna Thank You'. It's a bona-fide boogie-funk gem with silky vocals, rich synths and an irresistible mid-tempo groove. Flip it over for 'Lover's Holiday,' a soulful, harmony-laced slow jam that showcases Starville's signature sophistication with aching vocals and a sense of yearning that stays with you for a long time. This is a limited press, so don't hang about.

Review: Throwing back to the 80s' continuation of disco as it is done properly, PBT Records remember the due contributions of Shock, the *incroyable* funk band masterminded by Marlon McClain and Roger Sause. The 'Lies' EP is an extended version of the mega-rare, expensive, expansive 12" released in 2011 on Boogie Times, which is in turn an expanded edition of the original version, whose first edition came in 1984. That tracks like this should resonate through the decades with such force comes as no surprise. This new one also comes with a splendid reedition by Tony Massera of lead tune 'You Got The Love', whose re-editing skills are as adroit as a bionic hand.

Review: The Unreleased Album by The Horne Section, originally recorded during the years of 1983-1985, offers a vibrant fusion of funk, soul, disco and boogie. This US boogiefunk studio project stayed unreleased for a few decades until 2010, when these gems were collected for release. Review: French label PBT is absolutely on fire right now with a series of massive reissues of long-time boogie, funk and soul grails that will have collectors in a spin. Next up is this hidden gem from Florida's boogie funk archives, Pixie Dust by Wreckin' Crew, which was originally released in 1983 and was once a US-only rarity. It's a bass-heavy, synth-laced prized find for collectors and DJs featuring Robert Rans (who was the co-writer of Freeze's classic 'AEIOU') and veteran producer Kent Washburn. It's brimming with tight grooves and crisp drum programming while smooth vocal harmonies flow throughout. Every track radiates pure 80s boogie energy, all crafted with precision and ready to dominate dancefloors.
