Passive Aggressive
Cat: TRUNCATELTD 001. Rel: 30 Jun 25

Techno
The Advent - "Passive Aggressive"
The Advent - "Passive Aggressive" (Truncate remix)
The Advent - "Remote Viewing"
G Flame - "Ignacio"
Review: Long-time hard techno champion The Advent is back with more of his mind-melting work on Truncate's self-titled label. Title cut 'Passive Aggressive' opens with a loopy mental workout that is underpinned by nice dubby low ends. Truncate remixes and layers in some icy, fizzy pads and pressured drum grooves, then 'Remote Viewing' brings some uneasy peak time anxiousness with its wonky lines and prickly synths. Also included is a bonus by G Flame, which brings a direct and delicious Detroit house vibe that goes deeper.

Reptilian Tank (reissue)
Reptilian Tank (reissue) (mustard marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: TRUNCATE 26. Rel: 30 Nov 23

Techno
Reptilian Tank
Reptilian Tank (Truncate remix)
Review: DJ Hyperactive's now-defunct Contact was the label that first put out this cult cut from 1996. Some 25 years later it now gets a welcome reissue on Truncate's own self-titled label and features a remix from the techno titan himself. 'Reptilian Tank' gets a breath of new life and a refreshing new remix by label boss Truncate. First up is the original - a head-wrecking, panel-beating techno rave-up with wispy pads and pulsating bass that is full of pent-up energy. The remix is a speedy, stripped-back version that races ahead with all the urgency of a shooting star.

Dust
Dust (12")

Techno
Dust 1 (5:03)
Dust 1 (Kai Van Dongen remix) (4:53)
Dust 2 (4:33)
Dust 3 (4:48)
Review: Truncate is back on his own label for the first time in two years. It finds the revered techno talent in fine form and laying down some of his signature heavy low ends with surging synth loops and frosty hi-hats all ready to destroy the floor from the off. Remixing the opener is label resident Kai Van Dongen who makes it more hard-hitting and physical with his slamming, flat-footed kicks and urgent stabs. 'Dust 2' from Truncate then layers up scintillating synths and cosmic melodies and shuffling drum funk and last of all, 'Dust 3' brings some fixing synth texture to a more dialled back but still driving banger.

Remixed Part 6 (Christian Smith SCB aka Scuba Blenk THER3MIN mixes)
Cat: TRUNCATERMX 6C. Rel: 05 Aug 24

Techno
Wave 2 (Christian Smith remix) (5:06)
Wave 2 (SCB aka Scuba edit) (6:08)
Bodega (Blenk remix) (5:12)
Bodega (THER3MIN remix) (5:23)
Review: The Truncate label is offering up this remix EP in two different formats - plain back wax and this nice limited edition coloured version. It is a hefty offering of weighty, heady techno for the dead of night. Legendary Tronic founder Christian Smith kicks off with a version of 'Wave 2' that harks back to the early and mid-90s. Next is Scuba, aka the head of the Hotflush label, under his SCB guises and he offers some raw, economical sounds. Contemporary artist Blenk then follows up a nice release on Enemy Records with his drum lead take on 'Bodega' and Athens artist THER3MIN shuts down with more paranoid techno.

Remixed Part 6 (Christian Smith SCB aka Scuba Blenk THER3MIN mixes)
Cat: TRUNCATERMX 6. Rel: 05 Aug 24

Techno
Wave 2 (Christian Smith remix) (5:07)
Wave 2 (SCB aka Scuba edit) (6:09)
Bodega (THER3MIN remix) (5:12)
Bodega (Blank remix) (5:12)
Review: A sixth series of remixes of Truncate's always-reliable techno lands here on his own label. First up is Tronic man Christian Smith with a remix of 'Wave 2' that starts with high-speed drums and supple, mind-melting synths. SCB aka Scuba then reworks the same hating with more texture and heavier, off-balance rhythms. 'Bodega' (Blenk remix) is a minimal workout with spangled chords and dub undercurrents that come alive with organic percussion. Last of all, the same cut gets a remix by THER3MIN who layers in some unsettling synth pulses and anxious percussion.

Missing (5:08)
Review: White label lover Truncate (AKA long-serving techno producer David Flores) is back with more "no frills hard grooves, crafted for the dancefloor". This time it's all about "Machine Jack", a track served in two distinct flavours of analogue-driven intensity. First up is "Machine Jack V1", where one-note stabs, Belgian hardcore "Hoover" noises and simple, mind-altering melodies slowly rise above a pounding techno groove. "Machine Jack V2" is equally as intense, with twisted, acid-style electronic motifs dancing above another ten-ton beat. In comparison, surprisingly tropical B-side "Missing" is rather laidback and melodious. It's still savage and floor-friendly, but boasts a rather cheery synthesizer melody and some blissful electronic touches throughout.

Techno
Multiply (5:00)
Psuedo V2 (5:05)
Psuedo V3 (4:40)
Review: Los Angeles techno titan Truncate (AKA experienced producer David Flores) continues to serve up heavyweight jams on his eponymous white-label series. A-side "Multiply" is a no-nonsense affair, with hissing and crashing cymbals, morse code style electronic beeps and crunchy drum machine handclaps rising above a thunderous peak-time techno groove. Over on side B, "Pseudo V2" sees Flores wrap European tech-house glitches and pulses around a hypnotic deep techno groove, while "Pseudo V3" offers a more psychdelic and mind-altering take on the same deep and bass-heavy groove, with twisted acid lines sprinting in and out of the mix at regular intervals.

Trust The Process

Techno
Universal Function
Trust The Process
Space Shuffle
Matter Of Time
Review: Los Angeles mainstay and famed techno practitioner Truncate has joined forces with Chicago legend DJ Hyperactive for a first-ever collaborative EP. The results are fascinating from the first beat: 'Universal Function' is an anxiety-riddled deep techno pumper, 'Trust The Process' is laced with cosmic synths and an eerie sense of the unknown and 'Space Shuffle' is more jacked, with raw drums and punchy kicks topped by manic synth squiggles. Last of all is a heady soundscape in 'Matter Of Time' with its dusty hi-hats and frictionless drums.
