Cold Beat's War Garden is one of the many zillion musical products of the global lockdowns we all endured. It was written over FaceTime, apparently, making it a virtual album and cyber collaboration. It is laden with synth influences from the 80s and the feeling of disconnectedness the pandemic brought also defines much of the record. It is filled with far ranging hopes and fears and uncertainties and the importance of technology on all our lives during these weird times is heightened by the retro future melodies and glistening synth lines that light up each track, such as the gloriously uplifting yet melancholic 'Mandelbrot Fall.'
