Since first appearing on the scene early last decade, British rhythm & blues and early soul revivalists The James Hunter Six have become an integral part of the Daptone Records roster. Crucially, their authentically dusty and soulful sound mines an earlier period than many of their label-mates - a time before Motown and the guttural funk of James Brown swept away doo-wop and the softer sounds of early US soul. Their latest two-track missive is superb, with the almost skanking grooves, fuzzy horns and impeccable lead vocals of "I Can Change Your Mind" being accompanied by the loved up, slow burn delight of semi-acoustic soul jam "Who's Fooling Who".
