Analysis (version)
Review: "Analysis", by Alex Attias, is released on Planet E and contains two top mixes. Both are highly Carl Craig-influenced long jams. The A-side sounds like new school Carl, with an acidic minimal groove that builds and builds. On the flip the vibes get deeper and follow a more traditional Detroit groove.

Review: Detroit native Mathew Dear can do no wrong. The man known as Jabberjaw, Audion, False, Asa Breed and himself here introduces another new alias, The Brain, with a well crafted double 12" on Planet E. "Boss" from it was first heard on Carl Craig's Detroit Love Vol. 2 compilation and seems to draw on all his various other projects - it is heady techno with dark, heavily filtered vocals that take you to the dead night. Elsewhere there is dubby tackle, hyper-speed minimal and warped tech house, all of which adds up to another winning project.

Full Clip (Kirk Degiorgio Remix)
Review: Carl Craig's Planet E, currently celebrating 20 years in existence, needs no introduction. It's solid, classy, well thought out and boasts an artist roster that'll make your jaw drop. Here we see label stalwart Martin Buttrich's 2006 jam "Full Clip" re-issued with a Kirk Degiorgio remix. Ferociously pumping yet refined, Buttrich has hit the spot with this. A symphonic and forward thinking blend of drama and techno solidity invade as the track delves in and out of build ups and breaks that are enough to drive any floor crazy. Degiorgio's remix is an equally bold statement, not a touch on Buttrich's original but a worthy addition none the less.

Programmer
Review: The word prolific is often overused but Martin's production credits don't read like a who's who of a decade of dance, they are a decade of dance. Aside from over 100 collaborations with Timo Maas, Martin has been involved with twice as many again from the Italo house of Sounds of Life to the sophisticated pop of the Sugarbabes. He was nominated for a Grammy on his work as a remixer on Tori Amos' "Don't make me come to Vegas" and still finding time to work with Loco Dice on the 420 releases, you can't help but feel that this man's thirties are going to be a very public ride... Hot Hot Hot! Highly Recommended!!!

Review: Carl Craig slips into a new guise, Carls Davis, to deliver a release that's radically different to his big-room sound. Delivered in six instalments, "Sketches" harks back to the era of Landcruising and beyond. The first track in the series sees broken drums and eerie synths lead into a dramatic build, while the second one sees Craig revisit Detroit's electro past to the sound of shuffling 808s and surging, acid-flecked basslines. Craig goes off on a further tangent on "Part 3", where wild guitar solos unravel over a menacing 303, while "Part 5" is inspired by Chicago, deploying kettle drums over a menacing ghetto rhythm.

Rhythmic Soundscapes (5:57)
Review: Spanish hi-tech soul maestro Eduardo De La Calle on the true home of it: Planet E - and it's about friggin' time if we do say so! Over the last several years, the Madrid native has respectfully borrowed from the traditions of first and second wave Motor City sounds, but he undeniably carved his own path via his respected Analog Solutions imprint. The Icosahedrite EP features three life affirming explorations in techno-soul. From the the galaxian Jupiter jazz of the A side, through to the classic funked up futurism that pays homage to greats like Transmat and Metroplex like on "Mr Dewey D". There is also the more powerful and straight ahead functionalism of "Rhythmic Soundscapes" which is just as heads down and DJ ergonomic as his aforementioned AS material. This follows up some great releases by him in 2017, on the likes of Anemone, Forbidden Colors and Monogram Systems.

Detroit Summer (San Proper vocal mix) (10:41)
Review: Not to be confused with Dimitri from Paris, Trouw legend Dimitri Keppers dons his Dimitri from Amsterdam alias for a fine record on the Planet E label overseen by the legend that is Carl Craig. As you'd expect from the infamous Detroit stable, the scorching, deep-space techno of lead track "Detroit Summer" is driving, hypnotic and perfectly suited to the big soundsystem thanks to its monumental bassline. If that wasn't enough, there's also a remix by Perlon and Rush Hour casual San Proper who delivers an intricate percussion-heavy version of the original. Off the bloody wall!

Review: The new release on Carl Craig’s Planet E is from the camp of Los Hermanos, a side project of Detroit’s Underground Resistance that has grown into its own collective of musicians and DJs. In 2005 they released the debut album "On Another Level", performed an impressive series of live shows throughout Japan and Europe, and quickly gained a reputation for creating music with soulful power. The core crew combines the talents of Gerald Mitchell, Esteban Adame, Santiago Salazar and Dan "DJ Dex" Caballero. Two skilled keyboard players and two skilled DJs combine to form four producers that have made a powerful impact on the global electronic music scene. Los Hermanos unique combination of techno and house has been heard in the sets of DJs like Carl Craig, Fabrice Lig, Josh Wink, Jerome Sydenham, Joe Claussell, Claude Young and many more.

Repeat After Me (9:56)
Review: While Carl Craig was in Buenos Aries last year, he ended up in the studio with Argentine outfit Klauss, a combo renowned for their live electronic performances. Here, we finally get a chance to hear the results, which pit the experienced Detroiter's love of loopy, dancefloor-focused hypnotism against the band's modular electronics, moody industrial and new wave influences. A-side "Momentum" sets the tone, with the track subtly building over 10 mesmerizing minutes via foreboding treated guitars, psychedelic acid lines and paranoia-inducing modular electronics. Flip for the similarly epic "Repeat After Me", an arguably more widescreen affair that makes even more of Klauss' otherworldly guitar motifs and crackling, out-of-this-world synthesizer motifs. What it lacks in dancefloor grunt, it more than makes up for in atmosphere.

Snake Oil (7:30)
Stop Me (7:29)
Step Up (5:26)
Review: A clearsighted modern interpretation of the central Detroit clubland comes by way of Mister Joshooa, an emerging figure in the city's new underground, already known for his dual talents as DJ and sound engineer. Haunting local strait spots like TV Lounge and Lincoln Factory, and having already featured on Carl Craig's Detroit Love compilation, Joshooa's razzly retrovision of Detroit techno, given enough time and effort, could easily qualify him as a modern classic craftsman, should he continue to play his cards right. Elastic basslines, tactile percussions, and moaning, flexed vocals typify 'Settle Down', 'Snake Oil' and 'Step Up', the last of which closes the day on a super weighty machine funk automatism.

Modular Pursuits (Daphni Cwejman dub)
Review: These remixes of Pursuits on Carl Craig's legendary Planet E imprint succeed in providing visceral dancefloor thrills. The remix from Daphni (aka Dan Snaith, better known as Caribou) features heavy drums, insistent vocal samples and discordant acid lines, combining for a wild analogue climax. The Cwejam approach is somewhat less abrasive, with busy drums combined with dark riffing, but the end result is largely similar- highly effective but uncompromising techno. Recommended.

Modular Pursuits (Daphni Cwejman dub)
Review: Dan Snaith's latest career mutation as Daphni continues to reap rewards, as the talented producer adds Carl Craig's legendary Planet E to his already bustling CV. His two remixes of "Modular Pursuits" by No Boundaries fully succeed in providing visceral dancefloor thrills, with the A Side featuring heavy drums, insistent vocal samples and discordant acid lines which all meld together for a wild analogue climax. Flipside and the Daphni Cwejam Dub is somewhat less abrasive with busy drums combined with dark riffing, but the end result is largely similar- highly effective but uncompromising techno. Much like everything else Snaith touches, this limited hand stamped twelve inch comes highly recommended!

Country Boy Goes Dub
Country Boy Goes Dub (Marcel Dettmann remix)
Review: If you are going to remix a classic track, you need an artist with the requisite reputation to undertake the task. Planet E understands that clearly, with Berghain icon Marcel Dettmann commissioned to rework "Country Boy Goes Dub", a track from Carl Craig's Paperclip People project. Originally issued as part of the classic '96 album The Secret Tapes Of Dr. Eich, "Country Boy Goes Dub" in original form still sounds from another dimension and is yet another example of how forward thinking Carl Craig was in his 1990s pomp. The startling concoction of samples, metallic drum machines, 808's, guitar loops and serious dubwise tendencies make it stand out today. Dettmann's remix first surfaced on his precision mix for Fabric last year and is a fine modern reinterpretation that recalibrates certain key elements of the original but feels quite distinct all the same.

Saved Forever (Black Catalogue mix)
Saved Forever (TP original kick mix)
Review: Planet E peel off another gem from Life On The Back 9, Terrence Parker's refined album length exercise in Detroit business, for some 12" action. In original form, "Saved Forever" was Parker in full on sweaty club mode so it's not surprising they deemed it fit for 12" duty. Carl Craig pulls rank and turns in a n A Side gripping remix that embellishes all that's good about Parker's production, namely the snapping percussion and the infectious piano hooks, whilst Monty Luke opts for a deeper, orchestral rendition with his Black Catalogue remix. Parker himself rounds out the package with a Kick mix that turns up the rhythmic pressure nicely.
