Review: Brooklyn's Wonderwheel imprint has been going strong since the mid noughties, and the label has always offered the best freshest that the world dance scene has to offer. Gliding between broken beat, nu jazz and house, their identity has never truly been reliant on one genre or form, and we like them all the more for it. This week sees the tenth installment of the Turntables On The Hudson series, another chapter in a fine collection of multi-faceted music for the lovers of something a little funky and different. Main man Bonobo comes through with "Flashlight" on the A-side, a tropical house tune with a gentle touch, while jazz funk legend Gregory Porter is remixed and housed-out by Claptone, the man's soulful vocals riding beautifully amid those kick drums and piano lines. On the B-side, "Tshunga" by Aero Manyelo is an Afro dance tune with a heavy dance backbone, while Pablo Sanchez turns "Brother Dragonfly" by Sorceress into a lo-fi house tune with a tight little percussion knot. Gorgeous!

On the A, we’re hit with a new one by a frankenstein whom we can only guess, by syllogistic intuition, is an invention of the label - LL Smooth K, with ‘Fix Up The Seed’, a rope-burning mashup incorporating acapella verses from Dizzee Rascal’s ‘Fix Up, Look Sharp’. Then there’s DJ Snatch’s version of Gregory Porter’s bluesy ‘Liquid Spirit’ on the B, a surprisingly pacy curveball compared to the cutthroat injunctions of the A.

Review: Ella Fitzgerald has a spotless discography that is packed with many a classic tunes but for plenty of fans and critics alike, Let No Man Write My Epitaph is one of her ultimate standouts. She recorded the album back in 1960 with backing from the pianist Paul Smith. The album takes its name from the movie in which Fitzgerald starred and hits some truly rare depth of emotional understanding. It helped secure Ella's status as one of the finest translators of the Great American Songbook and now Verve's Acoustic Sounds Series transfers the originals from analog tapes and has remastered them on to 180-gram vinyl complete with deluxe gatefold packaging.

Review: Gregory Porter's beautifully buttery baritone has won him plenty of acclaim, fans, and Grammy nominations. How up to his sixth album, the jazz and soul singer is back to uplift you with his heart-felt, joyful celebrations. Of course, the whole affair is perfectly smooth and seductive, but also mighty powerful. Tracks like "Faith in Love" are string laced and upbeat songs to get a wedding crowd in a spin, "Long List Of Troubles" is a dramatic, dynamic jazz anthem and "Modern Day Apprentice" is a trend, stripped back song from, and to, the heart. This is another record that spans the ages in some style.

Review: When Gregory Porter first released "1960 What?" back in 2012, he'd yet to become the soul superstar we know and love today. The single was released in limited numbers first time round and, thanks to his elevation to star status, has become an in-demand collector's item - hence this timely reissue. It's every bit as classic-sounding as the majority of Porter's work, with the main man providing an impassioned delivery of conscious lyrics over a wonderful soul-jazz backing track. Serious contemporary dancefloor thrills are provided by Opolopo's superb flipside revision, which re-imagines the track as a bass-heavy chunk of jazz-house brilliance that rivals St Germain's "Rose Rouge" in its ability to send dancefloors wild.

Here we find him rounding up a great collection of edits and collaborations that his fans may not have picked up. Balancing the well-known with the unheard, covering his rich broad sound, it ranges from the tight, slippery contemporary disco funk flexes of his Zbonics work ("Issues Of Life", "Nowhere To Run") to a slew of great dancefloor remixes... including THAT Opolopo version that introduced him to a whole generation of house heads. Essential.

Echoing foundation-setting singers such as Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield and even further back to the likes of Sammy Davis Junior, Porter flings us from vibe to vibe with precision-written lyrics and emphatic delivery. Highlights include the double-bass slapping stomper "Liquid Spirit", the boogie-fuelled "The In Crowd", the Cullum-esque "When Love Was King" and the tear-jerking finale "Water Under Bridges." Review: A modern day Scott-Heron, without the myriad of demons on his back, Grammy-nominated jazz singer Porter has such a distinctive voice, charm and band command. He clearly lends himself well to edit culture (as proved by the huge success of the many "1960 What?" versions in recent years) and this 7" from Expansion is no exception. "On My Way To Harlem" is straight up narrative jazz with fantastic attention paid to the subtle samba and solemn horns. "1960 What?" speaks for itself; far more authentic to the original than the other versions that have popped up, if you've not already got a favourite edit - Jazz & Cole have the answer.

Review: A cheeky trio of juicy jazzy joints delivered on mouth-watering orange vinyl. This charming release showcases Soulandjazz's open eared spirit with a beautiful range of grooves. Gerardo Frisina's Cuban Soul mix takes off where Opolopo's massive Kick & Bass remix left us last summer but with less tech and more organic flare. Jazz Collective take things in a more acid jazz direction with a Sunburst Band style groove and mucho mucho flutes. Room 56 conclude the frenetic freak out "Hit The Devil". Air trumpets at the ready - this one's a keeper.

Review: Re-press alert! It's the tune that simply won't quit... Gregory Porter's incredible groove-workout "1960 What?" came to fame earlier this year thanks to Opolopo's Kick & Bass rerub. But if you're looking for something more organic and less electronic then Gerardo Frisina's Cuban Soul mix is the perfect solution. Jazz addicts should head directly to the B-side as Room56 and Japanese headliners Jazz Collective both lay down some beautiful grooves. Loaded with latent spring and sizzling instrumentation, this release really is rather special.
