Review: Houseum goes from strength to strength; from a highly respected online channel they've started hosting awesome intimate events in the heart of their Parisian hometown and now they've launched a label. If you've spent so much as five minutes on their platform, you'll know the vibes on offer here; deep dreamy house laced with cosmic textures, rippling soul and a strong sense of timelessness. From the big vocal salvo of Bellaire's "Oh" right through to the final dubby echoes of Jesse Bru's "Setup", this is exactly the high level of launch release you'd expect from such a respected platform. Houseum is a feeling. A good feeling.

Review: Subjoi is the Adelaide, Australia talent who has a long history with Shall Not Fade, but here lands on the Lost Palms label with a brilliantly diverse new EP. It comes hot on the heels of last year's Bias EP but shows a more subdued sound. The EP opens with the garage breaks and deep sub bass of 'Steadfast' which is softened with bittersweet chords and well placed female vocals. 'Count It Off' again roots itself in garage, but with some meaningful chords that really tug at the heart strings. 'Rapids' is another infectious and kinetic cut that brings both physicality and emotion to the dance floor then 'In The Ashes' is a skeletal and stripped back garage cut with an ethereal quality.

Review: Deep house can often be guilty of being all too nice and pleasant. The second release from 13th Hour suggest this is a label with their own hardcore take on deep, however. Subjoi's opener 'High St' has rock solid kicks and steamy pads that work you into a groove. 'Without You' retain the rugged kick drums, this time layering in more pensive pianos and a dreamy vocal sample from some old blues record, maybe. 'I Say' is a lo-fi looper designed to bump the crowd, and Loure's Latenite remix is brilliantly acrobatic thanks to its bendy synths and leggy drums.

Review: Australia's Subjoi has been having a jolly old time of late, slamming out hit after hit via Lost Palms, GASP and more. Now he comes to Lobster Theremin-affiliated Distant Hawaii to join the likes of Warwick, Sweely and East Of Eden in a retro house heatwave. While it may be classically-informed, Subjoi's sound is far from throwback - it's expressive, emotional club music plain and simple. Just stick on "Like It Was" and feel the lingering keys and vocal snippets taking you far, far away. There's a garage swing to "Drownin", while "Shelter Me" is dripping with moody New Jersey organs - the palette and energy shifts track to track making this as pleasurable for home listening as it is for the club.

Review: Hot on the heels of his "Love Shy" EP comes another touching deep house escape from Adelaide-based Subjoi. "Flashing Lights" takes the lead with a divine sample that warps and lilts softly but persistently as the beats gradually increase insistency. Elsewhere "Glowworm" lives up to its name with its broken drum rolls and soft introspective groove, "Closer" plays the consummate cosmic warm-up groove while "Dash" races to the finish line with a thumping sense of triumph aided and abetted by some tasteful flute work. Joious.

Review: Inaugurating new American imprint 13th Hour is Subjoi, an electronic music producer from Adelaide, Australia who has had releases on Heart To Heart and House In Motion. He appears on the A side with the sultry, late night deep house of "Make Me", plus the thumping and adrenalised acid jack of "Doin' Fine". Ricky Razu out of Belgium is one of the new breed of house producers quickly making name for himself on labels like Slav, Houseum and OOUkfunkyOO. He serves up a couple of classic house inspired perspectives here - they are definitely dressed to impress. From the sultry and evocative mood lighting of "Reaching Out" (which is vocal house exactly the way you like it) or the bittersweet deepness of "Moonlight Jam" closing out the EP in delightful fashion.
