Review: Ohashi Junko was a real Japanese city pop specialist from the mid -70s onwards. She put put more than 15 albums and 20 Eps and 1983\s Point Zero is one of the most well loved. An original will cost you well over a hundred quid and for good reason: these sort of high energy disco sounds just cannot be slept on, with boogie, funk and soul all colouring the big, glossy grooves. Slower tunes like 'In Your Lovin' brim with slick city cool and the bright lights of a late night urban metropolis, while the strident 'Caught In A Shower' with its huge horn sections will get any floor in a spin. Once the party is over, soundtrack the comedown with sentimental jazz numbers like 'Perfect Melody' and you will round out a lovely evening in style.

Review: Yet another addition to the Japanese city pop intrigue flies through into our laps. This one is a real OG in the style; first released on cassette and LP only in 1984, Magical was one of many albums by prolific singer-songwriter Junko Ohashi to be released via Philips, catapulting her exemplary style of easily listenable, Shibuya-esque slow jams into the limelight. Now a new reissue comes from a certain major label, with songs like the discoid 'Perfume' and the heartfelt 'Isn't It Magic' dazzling once more.

Review: A lesser-known but electrifyingly slick city pop record (her fourth) by Junko Ohashi. 1979's Full House hears the Japanese singer's graceful but powerful contralto in full collaborative force, paired against the historic instrumental talents of her backing band, Minoya Central Station. Perhaps second only to Ohashi's timeless New York paean, Magical, Full House is yet another discographic dazzler that most likely contributed to the revival of the city pop genre after its retroactive but no less ironic recognition in the popular music sphere by the vaporwave subgenre, future funk. The mood throughout Full House is vital and joyful, suggesting something close to complete emotional fulfilment and idealistic glee on the singer's part - all part of the city pop's objective - its grand plan - to portray metropolitan life as an ultimate ideal.
