Review: When English producer Sam Yamaha emailed Dixon, crediting his early beats as inspiration, Magic, Alive! began. Intrigued by the mail, Dixon met Yamaha in London and unearthed a trove of beats that fit his evolving vision. Then, back in Richmond, Virginia, in mid-2024, Dixon built this resulting album from those sounds after teaming with past collaborator Koff and a vibrant crew including the likes of Anjimile, Pink Siifu, Reggie Pace, Eli Owens and more. Together, they sculpted a dreamlike world of hooks, horns and flowing interludes. Following the emotional depth of For My Mama... and Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!?, Magic, Alive! is a fine sonic reinvention that's playful, surreal and defiantly alive.

Review: The masterful Light in The Attic have been deep int he archives again and this time serve up a remastered version of rap dons Freestyle Fellowship's To Whom It May Concern album. This one has been mixed from the original 4-track tapes by Cut Chemist and is a first ever double vinyl pressing. What's more, it has the full cover art for the first time with some fine liner notes to add context while you listen. This record is said to have set off the indie hip hop movement and remains way ahead of its time with made mic creativity next to killer beats.

Review: Breakout neo soul vocalist Kehlani first turned heads with her 2020 album It Was Good Until It Wasn't, then backed up that promise with her more intimate follow-up, Blue Water Road, earlier this year. The record now comes on nice clear vinyl and the US artist herself describes it an emotional journey as well as "a sexual journey, and a spiritual journey," she says the album is akin to a glass house in that it is "light, transparent, and the sun is shining through it." We agree - the production is silky, sweeping, sonorous, the vocal work just as delightfully liquid and seductive as she goes from intimate lows to empowering highs.

Review: American rapper, Ultramagnetic MC founding member and Bronx legend Kool Keith has been brought together with Real Bad Man for Serpent, a new album produced entirely by the latter. It's his first collab of the cat and features some big name guests including Slug of Atmosphere, Ice-T, Edan, Cool Calm Pete and Zeelooperz. Keith says he let the rhymes go where the music took him as he channels Rhythm X and Black Elvis in hard-hitting bars that tap into his deep subconscious. It's a great record that straddles many different times and styles with effortless cool.

Review: The late great MF Doom is still sorely missed a few years on from his passing. Fortunately, there is a wealth of musical legacy to enjoy and continue exploring whether for the first time or as a reminder of his mad skills. To that end, this is a reissue of his NAStradoomus Vol 1 album. It comes as part of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop celebrations on special gold vinyl and includes the evergreen MF Doom remix of 'If I Ruled The World'. Review: Longtime hip-hop mainstays People Under The Stairs have a wealth fo great material but their 2002 album O.S.T. is one fo their best. It now finally gets a long overdue reissue after the group disbanded in 2019, a full 25 years after first hooking up and making a name with their inventive styles. This third record furthered their sample heavy sound and gave rise to one of their best known and most loved hits, 'Acid Raindrops.' Elsewhere the languid beats flow freely as the verses and the whole thing was produced in Thes One's home by him and pattern in rhymes, Double K.
