Review: Ontario-raised artist HomeSick started life as a rapper in a number of hip-hop groups. These days, he's more of a producer than a vocalist, though there are sporadic bursts of manipulated vocals to be found on this debut solo single for Defrostatica. There are nods towards his strictly hip-hop past dotted around the EP - see the trap-influenced grunt of So Loki hook-up "Running On Empty" and the Roots Manuva style "Give It To Em" - but much of the EP is far weightier, twisted and full-throttle in town. Check, for example, the futurist dancehall riddims of "Afronta!", the twisted Juke madness of "Burnout 2099", the hard-to-pigeonhole post-dubstep insanity of "Get Back Up" and the skittish, Prefuse 73 style glitch-hop oddity that is "Carbob".
