Review: Paul McCartney's long-lost project, One Hand Clapping, is finally seeing a near-complete release 50 years after its inception. Filmed and recorded over four days in August 1974 at Abbey Road Studios, the sessions feature a new Wings lineup with Paul, Linda, Denny Laine, Jimmy McCulloch, and drummer Geoff Britton, alongside Del Newman and Howie Casey. The album includes recent hits like 'Live and Let Die,' 'Band on the Run,' and 'Jet,' alongside Beatles classics 'Let It Be,' 'The Long and Winding Road,' and 'Lady Madonna.' Denny Laine covers the Moody Blues' 'Go Now' and Paul revisits 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and the Tin Pan Alley classic 'Baby Face.' Previously unreleased, except for a few tracks scattered over the years, One Hand Clapping is now available as beautiful packages with exclusive solo performances recorded in the backyard of Abbey Road. Review: Few people can be said to be a true hip-hop head lest they've heard 2014 Forest Hills Drive by J. Cole. The heartfelt, orchestrally-tempered album was released way back in 2014 (duh) and hears the rapper sing and speak eloquently of his bittersweet coming-of-age - telling many stories of his first loves, his adolescent angst, and his intentional avoidance of the wrong paths. Now lovingly reissued just in time for its 10th Anniversary, we're glad to hear the LP that helped establish Cole's romantic, reminiscent side won't stay out of the limelight.

Review: The clue is in the name, as the vital resurgence of jazz in the UK capital coalesces into this supergroup project featuring a dizzying cast of talent. When names like Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings, Theon Cross and Benji B are all thrown into the mix, you know this is something to pay attention to. The group was first pulled together by producers Martin Terefe and Bruce Lampcov for a series of gigs across Europe, but scuppered by the pandemic they instead hunkered down in the studio for sessions inspired by Miles Davis' iconic Bitches Brew. The results are as brilliant as you would expect.

Review: Kiss' groundbreaking Creatures Of The Night was something of a shocker, as the band had taken a rather bold step in returning to a more heavyweight sound. The risk paid off, with the album becoming an instant classic and spawning no end of deluxe editions, one of which saw over 100 tracks pressed to a single box set. The kind souls over at UMC clearly saw it fit to release the original album as it was; simply nine tracks, from the massive femme fatale that is 'Killer' to the decadent judgment of 'Rock N' Roll Hell'.

Review: Every Steely Dan album is a world within itself - part of a broader galaxy of planets that share the same energy source, but ultimately unique and never interchangeable. Can't Buy A Thrill was the very beginning of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker's revered project, fabled for its exacting studio prowess and ruthless commitment to perfection. There's immediacy to the likes of stone-cold pop classics 'Do It Again' and 'Reelin' In The Years', but this is still sublime and subversive music from a band who flew out of the gate fully realised. Review: Back when the Space Girls burst onto the scene they very much upset older more conservative adults who were terrified by Girl Power and scant outfits. Looking back now it all seems so very tame compared to what the youth of the day are subject to by everyone from Katy Perry to Cardi B. Spiceworld was their second studio album and came in November 1997 and so gets a 25th-anniversary reissue. The tunes hold up as delightfully innocent pop nuggets with classic like 'Spice Up Your Life' and 'Stop' all sure to get you going.

Review: This album was brought together as a look back at some of Paul Weller's lesser-known tunes. The collection dates back to 1991 and takes in many solo recordings across six sides of vinyl. Amongst the inclusions are plenty of rare B-sides and remixes as well as live recordings, none of them appearing on any of his most successful solo albums. It's a mix of rarities that fans are sure to lap up as they travel through 20 years of Weller magic, all compiled by the man himself.

Review: True to their standing as archetypes of goth-tinged punk and pop, Siouxsie & The Banshees present a uniquely angled compilation timed for this very particular part of the year. Themed as an 'Autumnal celebration', All Souls look back through the Banshees catalogue for relevant songs to embrace the chill in the air and the supernatural undertones around Halloween. Of course, that particular festival is well-represented by the classic track of the same name, but there are also rarer B-sides like 'El Dia De Los Muertos' and 'Something Wicked (This Way Comes)', all adding up to a wonderful overview of the spooky atmosphere The Banshees exude so well.

Review: English new wave band Japan put out a small handful of albums in the late 70s and early 80s and managed to make an indelible mark with them. Exorcising Ghosts is a 1984 compilation that now gets reissued as a half-speed record. It was assembled in cahoots with lead singer David Sylvian after the band disbanded and features three recordings from the early-era work on Hansa Records. But mostly it draws on music from their two studio albums on Virgin Records, namely Gentlemen Take Polaroids in 1980 and Tin Drum in 1981. The extended and slightly varied versions make this a real must for fans.

Review: Since the glorious synth pop years of Japan, David Sylvian has journeyed into many other realms as a musician. The experimental nature of his formative band set the tone for a career of genuine intrigue, demonstrated wonderfully on this compelling album from 2009, reissued as a double vinyl release to foil some astronomical second hand prices. Manafon centres around pieces of free improvisation, experimental rock and chamber music, with Sylvian's eloquent voice guiding your ear through all manner of fascinating soundscapes and story scenes. With contributors including Christian Fennesz, Evan Parker, Keith Rowe and Toshimaru Nakamura, this is a widely hailed piece of leftfield art that ranks as one of the brightest jewels in Sylvian's glittering career.

Orchestra marked the 60th anniversary of Jamaican Independence with a special concert that showcased Marley's most famous songs all recorded with new instrumentation and orchestration. Trevor Nelson presented the project and he tapped up Skip Marley, an inheritor of his family's famous musical legacy and who made his debut UK performance for this concert which was recorded for this album on Island Records. British singer-songwriter JP Cooper plus Jamaican born and Birmingham based soul, gospel and R&B legend Ruby Turner also featured.

Review: Rock opera - a niche genre with a few forerunners in the late 60s, but surely defined by this monumental project by The Who. As the band were hitting their stride and still relatively early on in their career, it was a bold move for Pete Townshend to compose this magnum opus, which came out in 1969 and sparked a run of theatre and cinema adaptations. Telling the story of deaf, dumb and blind pinball wizard Tommy Walker was a gamble that paid off, as critics hailed the album as their critical breakthrough and the accompanying stage show dazzled fans the world over. Now the album has been given the half speed remastering treatment at Abbey Road, meaning it sounds better than ever.

Review: The 1982 glam-rock swan song for British rock group Roxy Music sees another limited reissue, a departure from the more edgy and abrasive sounds the group went for prior. The word that people constantly use to describe 'Avalon' is mature, in multiple senses of the word. At its core, the record is sensual and seductive make-out material, a 10 track package pining on romance named after the fantastical romantic gesture of King Arthur's body being sent to the titular island. It's plain to see why 'Avalon' is the band's most acclaimed and influential project, spawning off other New Wave acts like Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran and Tears for Fears. 'More Than This', the title track, has stood the test of time and is still playlisted and cited as one of the greatest British New Wave tracks of all time. 'Avalon' is accessible, seductive and, without doubt, a classic.
