AT4 - The Sleepwalker (7:27)
AT3 (6:27)
AT5 (6:11)
AT6 (6:09)
Review: Amorphic and Tensal hook back in to the machine to dialyse their crafts once more, with 'Highland Frequencies' offering up four, machine-numbered atoning lambs to our mech overlords, following up the equally arrayed 'Distant Landscapes' EP (2024) on Blueprint. Now bringing their distinctive cataloguing system to the discographic vanitas Mord, four more 'AT' tracks make for an irresistibly well-layered, synthetically one-of-a-kind release. Only 'AT4' gets a subtitle, 'The Sleepwalker', where a sandman's slumbrous, lollygaggling beats somehow, at the same time, betray a subconscious, paradoxical restlessness.

Men On Wire (6:12)
Men On Wire (AnD remix) (7:10)
A Feast For Crows (5:14)
Nearby Silent Horses (5:58)
Review: Rotterdam's Bas Mooy is no stranger to a bit of techno given his involvement in the European scene as a DJ since the late '90s and as a producer since the early noughties. He's appeared on countless labels including his own Audio Assault, the dread Mote-Evolver, Perc Trax, and even for the more recent Mord. The flying Dutchman returns to the latter with four guaranteed floor missiles, the first in the shape of grainy 4/4 beats and ringing melodies under the name "Men On Wire", a tune that's rapidly turned even darker and more pumping by the no nonsense AnD duo. Over on the flip, "A Feast For Crows" bangs its 909 away left, right and centre amid chilling walls of electrifying sonics, while "Nearby Silent Horses" channels that fury into a more compact techno bombshell for the peak time. Tough and driving.

Executing Disappearing Modulations EP
Cat: MORD 005. Rel: 10 Dec 13
Repeat Offender
Funnel Fiends
Big Rig Barnacle
Rubbish Bag Batting Cage
Review: The mechanical techno industrialisms of MORD continue to eat their way into 2013 and the juggernaut doesn't look like it's going to stop either. The fifth release for Bas Mooy's new label is fuelled by analogue-acid legend Paul Birken who turns in what's arguably his heaviest EP yet - and that's saying something. It's the ultimate four-tracker to annihilate the club. First, let the cyclic cyborg march of "Repeat Offender" barge its way in. This will allow "Funnel Fiends" to blow the roof off with its machine gun drums and staccato horns, while the big bad battering ram that is "Big Rig Barnacle" will take care of the dancefloor, allowing the self explanatory "Rubbish Bag Batting Cage" to take care of the rest. Goodnight.

Vulnerable
Stand Behind A Line
Unforgiven
Simple
Review: Doing their own thing with a host of less-familiar names, Mord has worked tirelessly over the past couple of years to establish a distinct sound within more techno-minded realms. Charlton returns with a second release for the label that brings a range of moods to bear on his looped-up style, kicking off with the Robert Hood-isms of "Vulnerable" with its nervous cyclical chimes, before "Stand Behind A Line" burrows a little deeper into throbbing machine rhythms with acid overtones thrown in for good measure. "Unforgiven" opens things up with a mammoth, distorted square wave synth line that flinches not once in its quest to devastate the dance. "Simple" thing brings some 303 action back into the mix but balances it out with a dense base layer of industrial grunge to make for a nice and dirty ass-shaker.

Irritation Collapse
Origin
Discernment
Machine Elves
Review: It's not can D Carbone get harder? But can D Carbone maintain the peak of his and industrial techno's plateau. Considering he's one third of Repitch Recordings with Shapednoise, yes. This release for the furbished MORD label follows editions from Radial, Paul Birkin, Bas Mooy and UVB. And as the label's catalogue numbers move further into double figures, Carbone serves up a dynamic four-track EP of blistering techno. "Irritating Collapse" is hard, '90s acid terror only slowed down, while "Origin" is sludgy, but still has that rough, Tresor-techno vibe. The beat and caustic metallic clusters of "Discernment" sound they they've come from a Gotham City sewer while the atmospheres and distorted bass stabs of "Machine Elves" are reminiscent to what can sometimes be heard in Milton Bradley's The End Of All Existence concept.

Shake Well (7:02)
Inside Dimensions (6:17)
Lucky Bastard (4:52)
Transformer (3:47)
Penetration (3:47)
Review: Rotterdam's Mord continues with its consistent onslaught of peak time club destroyers, proving they really are the techno label of the moment! Who better to carry on the torch than the legendary Brendon Moeller, under his Echologist alias. In the past known for his dub techno explorations, these days known for relentless grooves. On the A Side there's "Shake Well" with its tunnelling melody, sinister synth squelches and monstrous kick drum ticking all the right boxes. "Inside Dimensions" is the absolute peak time weapon on this one, which tears the through the speakers like a post-apocalyptic steam train. On the B Side the mayhem continues with the sinister modular workout of "Lucky Bastard" as good as anything by Mike Parker or Steve Bicknell did recently, but the restrained energy of "Transformer" and "Penetration" provide equally worthy DJ tools for different circumstances.

Human Element EP
Cat: MORD 017. Rel: 30 Apr 15
Unipolar (5:29)
Inner Core (5:27)
Shock Waves (5:31)
Human Element (5:03)
Review: Since first pricking the consciousness of the international techno community with their 2001 debut 12" Zet Oviedo, Exium has become a reliable source of solid, often fiendishly dark dancefloor material. Here they add another label to their bulging discography via a debut on the similarly impressive Mord. There are few surprises, of course, but plenty of robust, thrusting floor-fillers. It's all of a reliably high standard, but we're particularly enjoying opener "Unipolar" - a maudlin chunk of throbbing darkroom funk complete with a nagging, rave-inspired riff - and the deeper, impressively trippy hypnotism of "Shock Waves". That said, the alien, acid-tinged closer "Human Element", may well be the best of the lot.

Erosion 1 (5:20)
Erosion 2 (5:35)
Erosion 3 (5:37)
Erosion 4 (5:27)
Review: Strap in, because there is mucking about on the 80th EP from Mord. The ever popular, ever excellent Exum is at the helm and is a fine artist to enlist given his proven track record dating back years. The Spanish producer never fails to cook up fresh sounds while drying on a classic techno template and that is the case here. 'Erosion 1' is a screw-face banger with stomping drums and twisted acid. 'Erosion 2' is all about the jostling, bulky, macho drum programming which forces you to move and 'Erosion 3' rocks back and forth on a drum loop that will turn your mind inside out. Lastly, 'Erosion 4' gets all freaky with the edgy synths that light up the mix like a laser gun.

Processes (5:15)
Another Try (4:53)
Inwards (5:25)
Complete Cycle (6:17)
Review: Strap in for this one because Lewis Fautzi is on a mission across the fierce four cuts that make up his Controlled Processes EP on Mord. There is perfectly punchy, tight and kinetic drum programming on 'Processes', which barrels along with a real sense of techno funk. 'Another Try' is a dark, whirring kicker for the minimalists and then 'Inwards' is a more barrel chatted, cantering groove that never lets up. It's the sound design and subtle details which elevate these tracks from mere functional tools to real standout gems. The wild 'Complete Cycle' closes in hammering fashion.

Uncontrollable Process Of Self Destruction (7:51)
Ultraviolence (5:51)
Fallen Into Fear (6:36)
Death Is Not Defeat (7:06)
Review: Here's more heavy techno sounds on Bas Mooy's label, this time courtesy of Spanish producer Kwartz, known for releases on Warm Up and Pole. The Zooloft-inspired title of "Uncontrollable Process Of Self-Destruction" reveals itself to be for more than an exercise in poor English with FUSE-style bleep-notics fused with dreamy hardcore synths. By contrast, the aptly-named "Ultraviolence" is a thing of extreme danger as its wiry, broken rhythms and lashes of percussion seep over and gnaw at the listener's synapse. Two versions of the title track are also included, with Kwartz laying down the kind of dark, slightly distorted pulsing rhythms and steely percussive builds that Mord has become synonymous with.

Kontrola
Kontrola (Bas Mooy remix)
Trema
Trema (Clouds remix)
Review: Milos Martinov follows last year's Misfit debut release on Mord with this equally dark record. "Trema" is exactly the kind of dense, rolling techno groove that you'd expect to hear on Bas Mooy's label, with grainy drums and a juggernaut rhythm prevailing. Clouds' remix ramps up the pressure further, a heavy, loopy affair that could be Ben Sims on steroids, while the label owner delivers a pounding, abrasive take on "Kontrola". However, it's the original version of this track that really stands out; less direct and upfront than the other tracks, it still captures the listener's attention thanks to its furious, lurching rhythm and disturbed, high-pitched vocal samples.

Review: Strap in and hold on tight, because Mord are not mucking around on this one from Pfirter. "Apoc" is an intense, hundred mile an hour techno track that drowns you in synth waves, but somehow "Facing Dystopia" manages to up the ante with hammering drums and hits and a hellish sense of rave pressure that never lets up. The brutalism continues on the wall of noise that is "You Surround Me" and there is still time for the deeper, more hypnotic "Void" and twisted maximalism of "Time Loop" which sounds like an impossibly angry Jeff Mills.

Review: Milo Raad is back on Rotterdam's finest, Mord Records, with a fine follow-up to his last outing, the 'Blood Pressure' EP. This one opens at pace with 'Bushido' and its rushes of synth and hi hats, which sweep you off your feet in an instant. 'Flash Point' has a more stripped-back sound with a hypnotic meld of drums and kicks that makes for perfect 5am escapism. The deep techno of 'Yawara' is run through with eerie, searching synths that describe a desolate urban scene and 'Detour' is a final assault on both head and heel with its unrelenting drum pressure.

Quarantine (4:54)
Fair Trade Slave (6:05)
Review: Issued on Bas Mooy's Mord label, Mundi shows Radial has come into his own as a techno producer. "Storm Tide" kick starts the release with firing percussion, distorted, heavy drums and just the right amount of snarling attitude. "Boks" sees him make a diversion into a more swung sound. Like 2652 chewing on a mouthful of nails, the spiky broken betas and sparse, glitchy percussion show that the Dutch producer isn't afraid to think outside the box. This sense of experimentation is also audible on "Quarantine", where wave upon wave of drones are built over a spiky rhythm. He completes the package with the hypnotic pulses of "Fair Trade Slaves".
