Dakimh X T-Man - "Tell Me Nothin'" (4:27)
Darkimh - "Gin Swing" (4:08)
Darkimh - "Boneclick" (4:13)
Review: The darkman returns. After teasing us with unreleased dubs for the last year, Irish murksmith Darkimh is back on Infernal with three remarkable 140 jams. "Tell Me Nothin'" sets the scene as Manny MC T-Man gets rapid over some grimey horns and beats, "Gin Swing" fuses eastern pipes with slo-mo 808 fire while "Boneclick" seals the deal on a surprisingly funky edge. All sleazy G-synths, it flips some serious purple Vs and leaves us wanting more. You can't tell this guy nothing.

Review: Darkimh is an absolute monster and "Chain Smoker" is proof. Warped horns, scatty energy and a breakdown that will have you stewing in your own dark soul, is this doesn't have the floor screwing then nothing will. "Eclipse" packs more of an elegant punch with its flighty chimes and tightly wrapped kicks and sirens. Flip for crucial gothic remix by Malleus and a triumphantly trippy co-lab with fellow brain-warper Taiko. Pure innovation.

Deep Dark & Dangerous Trilogy Pt 2: Dark

Enigma Dubz - "Exosphere" (4:35)
Pushloop - "Age Of Fear" (3:17)
Truth - "Show Dem" (3:57)
Khiva - "Flight Club" (3:45)
Review: Having already offered up the first part of their 50th release trilogy, the Deep Dark & Dangerous crew slams down volume two. While its predecessor focused on undeniably deep cuts, this edition is all about aural darkness. Enigma Dubz gets things going in fine style via the slow-spaced out riddims, creepy sub-bass and clandestine electroic motifs of "Exosphere", before Pushloop reaches for oddball sci-fi vocal samples, punishing wobble-bass and maniacal laughter on "Age Of Fear". Truth weighs in with the bleeping, slow-stepping haziness and bowel-bothering bass of "Show Dem", while Khiva opts for a vibrating sub-bassline, metallic hits and tons of ricocheting effects on closing cut "Flight Club".

Dive (5:32)
Rain (3:41)
Review: Last year Burial and the Bug joined forces as Flame 1, delivering an in-demand EP on the latter's Pressure label featuring two sizable slabs of industrial strength soundsystem science. Here they return as Flame 2, once again offering up a pair of weighty dancefloor excursions. A-side "Dive" is a loud and claustrophobic affair, as the duo wraps dystopian dub bass and sparse, mutilated post-drill rhythms in layers of apocalyptic aural textures and mind-altering dub techno style processed noise. Flipside "Rain" is arguably more suitable for dancefloor plays and sees the esteemed twosome combine pulverizing sub-bass heaviness with dancehall style drums that come smothered in mind-melting effects and paranoia-inducing aural smoke.

Bass driven dub reggae with deep roots on A side cut "Holy Dub". The flip welcomes Belgian Digid back to the label, with his heavyweight Steppa's remix featuring the same Jah vibes as heard on countless releases for the likes of Moonshine, Dubbing Sun and Archetype in recent times. Perverse - "Subcontinent"
Biome - "Solstice"
Truth - "Questions"
Review: Here is the first of two 12" samplers preceding The Compilation, a self explanatory label collection from the Artikal crew which lays down a tasty marker for what to expect when the full 14 track release drops later this month. Naturally label co-founder J Kenzo leads the way with "Straight Defeat" which features the bubbling rap flow of Collinjah, but there's plenty more to sink your teeth into. Check the swinging minimalism and bulbous kicks of Biome's "Solstice" and Truth's chop-slapping stark design on "Questions".

J:Kenzo - "Intalek" (Resound remix) (5:50)
TMSV - "Sprite" (4:23)
Compa - "Lampin" (3:55)
Argo - "That Fresh" (5:46)
Review: As you'd perhaps expect, the second part (or "plate") of Artikal's The Architects Volume 1 compilation is full of deep and weighty treats. Fittingly, label boss J:Kenzo steps up first, offering Resound the chance to turn "Intallek" into a crunchy, snare-heavy revivalist jungle treat. TMSV take an altogether deeper route on "Sprite", peppering a tribal dubstep rhythm and moody sub-bass line with clandestine electronics and foreboding effects, before Compa slows things down via the melancholic bass science of "Lampin". Arguably best of all, though, is Argo's pleasingly melodious deep dubstep roller "That Fresh", which fittingly rounds off a fine EP.

Sin Love With You
Meu
Lock Lock Key Key
Review: Berlin-based operation Leisure System score a big hit with this, their fourth release, premiering the partnership of Jimmy Edgar and Machinedrum in a holy matrimony of refined modern electronics. Opening track "In Her City" has the sheen of Edgar all over it, but the ravey chops have a Machinedrum cheek to them. What's most striking though is that as a whole, the result is wonderfully fresh. On the clipped funk-dream-pop mash-up of "Sin Love With You", or the jagged intricate wiggle of "Meu", this is the sound of two artists meeting perfectly in the middle without any battle of egos and instead creating an excellent new whole.

Point Of No Return
Review: Killawatt hasn't missed a rim shot since his very first release. And it seems he's passing on his sub-low wisdom to the relatively new face Thelem. Both cuts come with a serious twang of techno thanks to some inspired loop work and complex rhythms. "Kaba" is the trooper of the two with a steady steppy drum pattern and a hypnotic loop that feeds back and eats itself with glee. "Point Of No Return" is the real prize fighter, though; it's all about the deep, thudding tribalism and very little else. Great fun to mix creatively and will make one devious set opener. Pure, dark and distinctive. Blackbox are on fire right now.

Review: Artikal Music outta France continues on its devastating bass mission with this crucial new 10" from Monty with hype work from T Man. It's a true school dubstep cut with earth rumbling kicks and wubbing bass cocooning you in sound from deep down below. A mad saw tooth synth rides up and down the scale to ensure utter dance floor carnage and with the vocal work up top adding extra fire, this is a sure fire winner. The Mystic State remix is more deep and smooth with slick rhymes making for a more grimy vibe.

Quasar & Nova - "Witchcraft" (dub) (5:09)
Saule & Centauri - "Tyrant" (5:10)
Teffa & Sound Unknown - "Hide & Seek" (4:42)
Review: Dubstep doesn't get much deeper than the tunes on this meaty new Various Artists collection from 786. The title suggests it is the start of a new ongoing series, which is music to the ears of bass fiends everywhere. Mr K & DPRTNDRP kick off with 'Suppression,' with its menacing energy and churning hits, while Quasar & Nova team up for the excellent low end wobble and playful sense of funk that is deeply embedded in the rhythm of 'Witchcraft.' Saule & Centauri's 'Tyrant' is a pressurised cut with a freaky vocal and edgy synth stabs over woden hits. Sparse but atmospheric, it's just one of four killers here. The last is the drilling bass weight of Teffa & Sound Unknown's mystic 'Hide & Seek.' Great stuff.

Review: Cutcross is a label "created to champion the melting pot of basscentric sounds teetering around 140 bpm." The label is run by Sicaria & Mia Koden and this seventh EP keeps up the fine early momentum, but is also a last release they will put out.It joins totters two of the UK underground's finest with Sicaria Sound set staple 'Gruffa' by Nova up first - it's as deep as dubstep gets with a low end so filthy you'll be reaching for the bleach. 'Pastorius' has pinging guitar riffs that weirdly remind us of the Seinfeld theme and 'Ocean Echo' then gets all watery with oodles of echo. 'Pips' is melting of fairground melodies and dark low ends. Adios to a fine little imprint.

This is the first of a series of EPs, it's focussed on the deepest tendrils of the label and it's just a sliver of the 29-track action. Sepia opens with a beautiful, heart-heaving lament "Voodoo" before Taiko lures us into the graveyard for some shadowy mischief on "Rise" before Oxossi gets aggy on the pipes and harmonica with "No War". Review: Sheesh! And the award for the swampiest, most mutated and wooziest 140 jam of recent times goes to Sibla & Teffa's "Bobby". Presented here on the a; proper sleazy, rolling, oily cosmic dub funk - with some fantastic vocal stamps from the master - it's quite remarkable for the pair's first ever collaboration. As is 'I Wonder Why' on the B. Taking a slightly more traditional dub route, here they dig deep into the roots and really get involved in the sounds and elements, gradually easing us deeper and deeper into the blend before we realise we're cap-deep in a pretty heady psychedelic stew... And we have no plans to swim to shore. Limited to 300, this won't hang around.

The ?Kopstoot EP features some deeply reflective and hypnotic expressions in deep dubstep as best heard on the title track, which is chased up by an immersively rhythmic remix by label co-head Hebbe (Overdue/Next Level Dubstep). In addition, we have the groovy and bass driven party vibe of 'Ketel' over on the flip, which also gets treated to yet more worthy renditions. Review: Torsten Profrock’s T++ project has continually spread its wings since conception in 2005. Championed by fans of techno, dubstep, experimental and drum & bass alike, his latest EP for Honest Jons (and rumoured to be his last under this monkier) showcases the amalgamation of styles and sounds that has earnt the German such a far reaching fanbase.

If it does prove to be the final T++ release ever, then the alias will have left us with the most expressive and energetic of his works. Adding a real sense of personality, Profrock unearthed a handful of samples of the singer and ndingidi player Ssekinomu, recorded in East Africa in the 1930s and 40s in the label’s vaults for this release. Skilfully, the producer works these snippets into the complex rhythm structures, giving his music a human touch that has never been seen before. Profrock looks to the radical fringe of UK garage for the snapping 2 step vibe in these rhythms that remain central to all four tracks on the EP. This results in a clutch of tracks that take on an immensely tribal and subconsciously innate feel. They morph new structures from the forms of 2 step, techno and drum & bass around which Profrock wraps twisted FX and weighty sub bass to create one whole, throbbing organism.
So with quite possibly his final release, T++ leaves us, rather fittingly, with a record that sounds at once both ancient and modern. It has a totally unique tone, like a form of tribal language that can only speak to and be understood by today’s culture through these sub-heavy, atmospheric sounds.

As with anything Louis Robson delivers, there's a bewitching otherworldly vein running through each track and "Miners" is no exception. The title track leads with spiralling strings that leave you feeling like you're in the eye of a dust storm. It sets us up for even more beguiling cosmic manoeuvres: "Prism" takes us out to the wild west and buries us alive while "One Of Us" uses the power of an entire brass section to unearth us again. Currently ruling the dubstep scene in Helsinki via the club night Alas his Katusea crew run, "Shawty" is a truly auspicious debut- having caught the ear of Sound Pellegrino boss Teki Latex who quite accurately described it as 'northern light-induced-clap-trap-house'. Distinguished by a sultry female vocal, frosted synths and beat programming that shuffles between dubstep, juke and dirty south hip-hop, "Shawty" is yet another hit for Oneman's fledgling label. Sychronise (3:58)
Bubbles (3:16)
Ostrov (3:46)
Review: Foundation Audio continues to fly the flag for the deepest end of the dubstep spectrum with more bowel evacuating sounds, this time from Teffa. He draws on a rich history of sound system culture to really test your bass bins and lay down some killer low end wobbles. "Advance" (feat Moss) is an eerie opener with devastating bass and only the most subtle of synth details to keep you locked in place. "Bubbles" is another standout with its playful bassline sure to get big reactions, then "Ostrov" is a slow motion stepper with computer game melodies and real futurism.

Make It A Dub (Split remix)
Review: We're glad that plenty of artists seem to be back making dubstep again - purists will say it never went away but the spotlight sure did move on after that initial explosion 15-plus years ago. Her we find Teffa going deep on Subotage's fourth EP with a quartet of deliciously heavy steppers. 'Event Horizon' kick off with sparse streetwise swagger and low end oscillations, 'Turn On The Sound' has a characterful lead synth zipping about a desolate metropolis late at night and then 'Make It A Dub' has a classic dubstep feel with endless echo, frazzled synths and that lurching sense of low energy menace. A Split remix closes out a vital EP.

Teffa - "A17" (3:18)
Breez - "Upper" (4:40)
Teffa & Breez - "7 Days" (3:45)
Review: Award-winning dubstep label operating out of Liverpool, LDH deliver some supreme goods here as Teffa and Breez go head to head with two solos and two collabos. 'Passing Through' sets the tone with a curmudgeonly bassline guffing around some deliciously slouchy drums. Old school with the warmth to back it up. Teffa's 'A17' is a much more futuristic, tense sounding piece with alien basses and lasers galore while Breez's 'Upper' maintains the menace but with bags and bags of room (and occasional clip-loads) Finally the pair lock horns again for '7Days'. A bubbly subaquatic trip, freshened up with big waves of trippiness and haunted cries, let's hope these two cats are forced in the ring together more often. Power up!

Teffa - "Young Man In A Dance" (3:44)
Teffa - "Old Days" (4:39)
Review: Fresh from a fine outing on White Peach, Baltic beat-maker Teffa brings his brand of bass-weight badness to Foundation Audio. The skank is strong on A-side "General", a leisurely deep dubstep roller smothered in dub-wise effects, jaunty reggae riffs and the patois toasting of guest Conzi. The reggae soundsystem influences continue to come to the fore on the flip, first via the electroshock beats, undulating sunshine horns and mind-altering bass-weight of "Young Man In A Dance", and then via the vintage dubstep business of "Old Days". The latter sounds like a tribute to the early days of Croydon dubstep.

Loonz (4:39)
The Chamber (3:53)
Review: Few new acts in dubstep are getting 140 heads hot under the collar quite as much as US trio Ternion Sound. Following heavily spun stinker sessions on the likes of Duploc and Dank N Dirty Dubz they crash land on J:Kenzo's Artikal with three mind-bending slabs of bass weight; "Parasite 6" is pure wobble gold, all bubbly and 07 flavoured with strong hints of Coki while "Loonz" continues the riff murkery over a slipperier rhythm under a graveyard grey cloud of bit decay. Finally "The Chamber" spins us into a seizure with its scattershot breaks, grainy cascades and FX so eerie they give themselves a fright. "Parasite" for sore eyes...

Review: Johnny Foreplay, Apparition and Nostalgia's collective force continues to thrust through 2018; following seismic sessions on Duploc and Dunk N Dirty Dubz comes this precision three piece on Chestplate. Taking us on a perfect trip through the most exciting corners of modern dubstep, the US trio kick off with a powerful rubber ball bass instant reload shockout that is "Hopeless" before getting all weirded out and theatrically dystopian on "Loft Dub" before being bid adieu by "Morgawr" a twinkling rolling wonder that perches high up on the wave scale. Hopeful.

Review: There's no stopping this American trio right now; after a massive year of ugly thumpers on the likes of Dank & Dirty Dubz, Chestplate and Artikal, they return to DUPLOC for another EP, this time fully vinylised and loaded with two VIPs of their label debut last year. "Forest Temple" is a real foundation shaker where the subs do all the talking and the eerie textures ripple through the spaces while "Up Up" is just a straight up stinker with full wobbles and teeth gnashing filth. Flip for two crucial VIPs as "Verify Me" and "Yellow & Grey" are given the most dapper go-gullier-stripes you ever did hear. Sound as a pound.

Review: Unstoppable US crew Ternion Sound continue to dent our senses with their 140 witchcraft with this supreme collaboration collection with some of the most respected and equally forward-thinking peers. First comes Enigma Dubz who joins the fray for an alien shoot 'em up 'The Engineers' before Opus comes crashing into the blend on the ultra crisp and dreamy 'Mediator'. MIC (4:41)
Review: Most recently spotted on Foundation Audio's digital arm collaborating on Krook's EP, LA's Tetrad switches lanes to the label's vinyl league with three outstanding system slugs. "Shakuhachi" sets the tone with a rounded unhurried bounce that ploughs though any scoops like lava. It's joined by the similarly flabby bass-slapped "Samos" where there's less of a bass melody but these epic trippy trails coming off each sub. Finally, "MIC" closes on a slightly cosmic-yet-barbed touch as dreamy arpeggios wrap around thick treacle subs and some dark politic messages. Serious bass integrity.

Tetrad - "Crumble" (6:09)
Review: LA not-so-confidential: Tetrad has been developing a strong reputation for slick sub aesthetics for a little while now, appearing on labels such as Sublimate and Sure State. Now bringing his emerging friend and sonic kindred spirit Ahkur along for the ride, the result is the smoke-stacked, toxic bass croaker that's "Ashes Fall", a powerful piece of darkness designed for 3am and later. "Crumble" sees Tetrad back on the solo flex with a sweet sub that sits behind everything anonymously until it starts to flop out behind the kicks in a dizzying, almost physical way. Authentic.

Review: Following their recent appearance on Well Rounded Dubs, US dubber Tetrad and NZ kindred spirit Headland land on Unity Through Sound with two enveloping, sense-mashing jams. "Green Crack" is Tetrad solo; all molten mechanical reverbs, spry skanks and an MC call-to-arms. "Crossed Out", meanwhile, sees the pair collide for a trippier, more twisted spiralling sludgy number. Drop it and watch heads fry.

Forces Of Nature
Shottaz
Review: Thelem releases don't come round as often as we'd like... But when they do, they never disappoint. "Haunted Harmonics" sums up the distinctive creativity and production benchmark instantly. Twisted FX and paranoid riffs, it's darkness o'clock and every one's watch has well and truly stopped. Both "Forces Of Nature" and "Obsessions", meanwhile, contribute towards the subby, 160 style jungle flavours that are currently bombarding the dance. Hungry for drums? Look no further than the savage drama of "Shottaz". Each cut charging a different corner of the dance, this is Thelem at his most extensive and accomplished. Well worth the wait.

False Imprint
Review: Thelem returns to Innamind after a few excursions on Artikal and Blackbox with two firing examples of why dubstep still excites and amazes in 2013. "Bring Me Down" has been bubbling since Outlook Festival last summer; featuring the emphatic lyrical warnings of emerging MC T Man, it's powered with such a bulbous bass riff you can't help but swagger. "False Imprint" comes with the same level of gritty gravitas; swapping mic-fronting for a series of psychedelic washes, it's another heavyweight from Thelem. Powerful stuff.

Thelem reverts from his current techno outings with a bleepy adventure into dubstep foundations, TMSV weaves a dense tribal web on "Scorpion", Skeptical adds a punctuated skippy rhythm and subtle dark growl to proceedings "Skavenger" while Sleeper concludes proceedings with the deeply trippy "Coxsone Dub". Review: Not a lot is known about the talent behind this anonymous white 10" besides heavily hushed rumours and hearsay. Focusing on the source is superfluous when the beat chat as eloquently as they do on this one sided slab.Soaked in treacle-thick subs and lorry loads of reverb, it's a deep-seeded meditative joint that's far more dub than it is step. With a yearning, spacious dynamic laced throughout, this will warm up a dance with real slow burning appeal.

Review: Now on their eight release, J.Robinson's TheMostHigh continues to mystify, murk and master the game with its mysterious dispatches. "Lessons" continues the high grade sub strain message with a heavy pressure bassline and shattering reverbed snares, downpitched vocals and excursions into tripped out FX. Look out for the sudden shards of skank cutting through the dubby fog with sunlight vibrancy... Only to disappear without a trace moments later. A little like these limited pressings.

Jah No Dead (3:13)
Review: Since launching back in 2015, The Most High series has delivered a swathe of killer dancefloor vibrations, all of which are of mysterious origin. Their latest un-credited, single-sided salvo is another high-grade workout for those who like their productions delay-laden and irie. "Jah Not Dead" is nominally a deep dubstep cut, though its stepping riddim, horn-heavy samples and Rastafarian vocalizations are closer to traditional dub than DMZ or Techtonic plates. Either way, it's the kind of well produced, bootleg cut that will sound suitably righteous when booming out of a proper reggae sound system.

Review: Clandestine version business on a one sided 10" white label as "Give Dem" from Shabba Ranks' gets the 20,000 league deep subaquatic finish it's always needed but never deserved. Processing the vocals for a barbed, subtly demonic affect and emphasising the pure weight of the drums, whoever Themosthigh truly is, they're in a very special place right here.
