Benga - "Roller"
Komonazmuk - "End Of The World"
Orien - "New World"
Rusko - "Jah Love" (feat Danman)
Martyn - "Everything About You"
The Others - "Freakshow"
Review: From Croydon orginator Benga's dubplate smasher, to rising Bristol talent Komonazmuk's sharp as razor production, from the West London
sounds of Orien's grimy halfstepper to Rusko's deep spiritual reggae vocal, 'Tempa Allstars 4' is a cutting-edge representation of what is
working on the floors of dubstep events worldwide. Rounding things off is a refreshing 2-step flavoured offering from Martyn, more known
for his d&b productions but making waves with in dubstep, and a deep dark Youngsta styled roller from The Others.

Ruff Sqwad - "Xtra44" (OH91 remix)
Footsie - "Prangboy" (Chemist remix)
Review: In the game since 2012, South London label Coyote Records have only just dropped a crucial second edition of their Coyote Kings compilation, but keep up the heat with the first release on their new Coyote White offshoot. Label regulars Chemist and OH91 both feature, taking a side each to show off their refix skills on a 12" that upholds the White Label tradition good and proper. Chemist reworks Footsie's "Prangboy" and transforms it into a grime mutation of the highest order, it's all about those sucker punch percussive hits! Complementing this, "Xtra" by Ruff Sqwad gets turned into a twilight prowler by OH91 which feels mercilessly short at 4 minutes.

Diggerz - "Chat Noir" (3:44)
Quasar - "Looz" (5:17)
Tinky - "Hiii" (4:36)
Ourman - "Onward & Downward" (4:12)
Review: The freshly minted Egregore label launches in fine style here via an EP showcasing tracks from a quartet of label associates. Diggerz kicks things off via the clandestine creepiness of "Chat Noir", a trap instrumental with all the bass-weight and razor-sharp intensity of the moodiest dubstep, before Quasar peppers a stoned, head-nodding beat with murky electronics and a cavernous dub bassline. Tinky's "Hiii" is a snappy deep dubstep roller capable of inducing paranoid episodes, while Ourman's "Onward & Downward" is the EP's punchiest and heaviest moment - all clanking beats, stretched-out bass, low-end wobble and fizzing electronic motifs.

Diplo & Oliver Twizt - "Go" (Swarms remix)
6Blocc - "Bounce"
Review: Mad Decent and Lo Dubs aren't two labels that would immediately spring to mind when it comes to collaborative releases, however according to the latter this highly limited 12" came together specifically because Diplo's been a fan since Lo started putting out DZ material several years back. Subsequent to the Canadian dubstepper featuring on a Mad Decent comp, the two labels embarked on some chatting of cheese and this record is the end product. The A Side has a much needed physical release for Swarms remix of Diplo's collab with Oliver Twizt which totally rewires the unorthodox swing into something altogether more calming. Check the flip for the excellent "Bounce" from 6Blocc which rewires a Troutmann classic to a crunked out and diced up mainframe.

Old Black
Hiawatha
Review: Less Music release this EP from highly regarded Canadian producer Egyptrixx, featuring collaborations with indie outfit Ohbijou and visual artists Datdatdat and Seripop. The two track EP has been pressed up on limited 10? vinyl, with Montreal-based design collective Seripop providing the delectable artwork. A-Side track "Old Black" is a cover of drone pioneers Earth, with Egyptrixx taking the glacial guitars and mournful cello of the original and dousing it in an altogether denser, more electronic sheen. Ohbijou adds some vocal layers, and we recommend you check the woozy accompanying video directed by Berlin-based studio Datdatdat (who also provided the clip for Egyptrixx's "Start from the Beginning"). On the flip, "Hiawath" is initially a more raucous affair, with tearing synths and clipped beats, before it drops back into a deeply atmospheric, ethereal outro. Recommended.

Cat: BANDULU 003. Rel: 30 Jul 13
Gemmy - "Roll On Tips & Toes"
Oatz - "Untitled"
Boofy - "Since When"
Breen - "Hooded Up"
Review: Following two rounds of heavy hitting platters from label bosses Kahn and Neek, the third Bandulu plate sees them step out of the spotlight and invite a new set of artists into the fold. 003 in the canon is an essential purchase for the presence of Gemmy's mythical swaggering West Country basement anthem "Roll On Tips And Toes" in fully remastered form and the Bristol grime veteran is complemented by three equally crucial cuts from the city's new school. Oaty lines up alongside Gemmy with "Untitled" a vicious 8-bar anthem in the making, whilst face down Boofy and Breen duke it out for prominence with the latter's "Hooded Up" a particularly rugged concoction of recycled strings and gut punching drums. Screen printed, signed and numbered by Joshua Hughes-Games. Limited to 500.

Kwengface vs Joy Orbison vs Overmono - "Freedom 2" (3:30)
Kwengface - "Freedom" (3:19)
Review: These tracks have received some huge hype just from the plays they have been getting from DJs luckily enough to have them. Now they finally get a vinyl pressing so the rest of us can join in the fun. First up is a three way collab between a trio of well-regarded artists in the UK drill rapper Kwengface, master bass producer Joy O and techno's Overmono. 'Freedom 2' has cut-throat rhymes and two-step garage influences with low-end subs which will destroy the club. The original version features on the flip with a less club-ready and more drill-centric sound.

MMM & Old Apparatus Meet Tshetsha Boys & Shangaan Electro
Cat: HJP 065. Rel: 23 Feb 12
MMM - "MMM Meets Tshetsha Boys" (7:08)
Old Apparatus - "Old Apparatus Meets Shangaan Electro" (4:00)
Review: Honest Jon's present the last twelve inch instalment of their impossibly varied Shangaan Shake remix project with the perma excellent MMM and Old Apparatus at the helm. Fiedel and Wiegand's take on the Tshetsha Boys is notable for two things: firstly it continues the duo's recent fascination with rhythms of a decidedly UK Funky nature (as executed with devastating effect on their recent Dex/Rio 12") and it further strengthens the impression Honest Jon's have given the commissioned artists a blank canvas to retain or toss as many elements of the source material as they deem fit. Thus recognisable snippets of the vocals remain alongside a brilliantly twisted treatment of the tinny melodics wrapped infinitely around butt slapping drum textures. Completely different in tone and execution, the elusive Old Apparatus invoke the spirit of Scratch Perry at his most intoxicatingly brilliant with a rusted, half stepping arrangement caked in all manner of feedback which serves to demonstrate how far reaching the project has been over the course of the 12" releases.

Cactus (5:56)
Porcupine (5:21)
Review: Having wowed the world with his first two records, Objekt's arrival on Hessle Audio is a logical and welcome move. The wobbling bassline of "Cactus", premiered on Ben UFO's Rinse:16 mix, recalls Mala's savage productions, tweaking the oscillators just enough to make the bass scream whilst keeping things tasteful, despite its crazed metamorphosis into a raygun at the halfway point. Flipside "Porcupine" meanwhile is militant techno with all the purity and focus of Jeff Mills' best productions, a maelstrom of pummelling beats and swimming chords with a diamond-like beauty despite its pneumatic ferocity. In a word: essential.

I Didn't Mean To
Palmarosa
Review: As their slew of recent singles continues, October and Borai emerge on Applepips with yet more essential tackle for broadminded dancefloors. "I Didn't Mean To" finds itself in a compromising position between broken rhythmic trysts and technoid propulsion, all the while off set by achingly beautiful, twinkling pads. It's still a strong floor track, but in a truly hypnotic and uplifting way. "Palmarosa" meanwhile is honed for maximum body response, with a firm undercarriage and sassy saxophone flairs perfect for those feverish moments deep in the heat of the night. Either way you'll find it hard to prise this one out of your bag.

Oddkut - "Loud" (feat Griz-O) (8:01)
Oddkut - "Deposition" (3:43)
Ninety - "Ghoul" (8:27)
Ninety - "Skull Thoughts" (8:06)
Review: Belgian label DUPLOC continues to break new ground in a world where bass, dubstep and grime all intersect. This new split 12" from Oddkut and Duploc has already been getting high profile plays from dons like Kenzo, N-Type, Ternion Sound and ENiGMA Dubz, and for obvious reasons. Oddkut's two joints are dark, stark, slow motion wobblers with devastating bass weight. Ninety then gets trippy and late night with a mystic warrior lead and steel plated, stepping drums on 'Ghoul' and then lays down a dark, high-pressure bit of minimalist bass to lock you to the floor on 'Skull Territory.' Fierce stuff.

The Yumato Spring (4:52)
Sugar Acid (4:11)
Tsundoku (3:18)
Review: Mystic instrumentals from the south west area courtesy of Mr Mitch's irrepressible Gobstopper label. Odeko makes his EP debut with four future-focused adventures in the exciting fertile land between experimental grime and glistening, formula-free electronica. From the pulsating subs and wavy melodic twangs of "Setsuko" to the shimmering-but-mangled harp echoes of "Sugar Acid", very few parallels can be made bar, perhaps, Chinese grime aficionado Swimful. Far East by inspiration, far out by design, Odeko is on to something special here.

OJ Simpson (3:42)
Review: ZHA's White Peach imprint continues to wade in the murkiest pools of bass, dub and grime. This time they're being led up the muddy path by Bristol's OH91. The lead track is straight-up deepness. All space and bass, the groove is created by woozy reverse tones shuddering rim shots. For more bounce head to "Space" where a two-step takes the lead and a bumbling sub follows dutifully. Finally we hit the Atlanta-bound 808 dynamics of "OJ Simpson" where the groove is as eerie and ominous as an unstoppable media swarm.
