Everybody Loves The Sunshine (3:57)
Lonesome Cowboy (4:04)
Review:  It's always a fun game to see when you first hear someone drop Roy Ayers's ubiquitous warm weather classic 'Everybody Love's The Sunshine.' This year has been rather cold in early spring but soon as this one gets dropped you cannot help but feel rays o your face even if they haven't yet appeared. It's a stone cold gem with its lazy drum tumbles and arching synths. The keys even sound like they can't be bothered to really move properly boucle of the heat and the lush vocal is the umbrella in the cocktail, if you will.

A Tear To A Smile (5:43)
Time & Space (4:06)
Review: Dynamite Cuts has got a couple of Roy Ayers Ubiquity projects in the fire this month - a brilliant 7" double pack as well as this 45rpm. Both sides of this one rather take quite different paths to your affections. 'A Tear To A Smile' is high-speed and complex funk for the dance floor with loopy rhythms and Roy's mad vibes playing over the top next to some neat bass work. Flip it over and you'll find the much more deep and laid-back 'Time & Space' with its lavish cosmic keys and jazz vocals all working you into a star-gazing lather.

The Fuzz (4:09)
I Can't Help Myself (3:03)
Love (4:26)
Review: Dynamite Cuts back up their name once more with another red hot 7" of pure dancefloor gold. This one brings tufter four cuts from the inimitable Roy Ayers Ubiquity. The opener 'Hummin' In The Sun' will have you feeling the rays on your face as his signature percussion and vibes work brings a soulful groove alive. 'The Fuzz' is a more tender and intimate soul sound for late-night romancers and 'I Can't Help Myself' pics up the pace again with some funky drums and warm melodies while 'Love' has a conversational style and smooth groove.

Running Away
Cat: SSD 65005P. Rel: 16 Feb 21
Running Away (long version) (6:58)
Love Will Bring Us Back Together (5:55)
Review: Roy Ayers made a number of killer disco cuts in the late 1970s, though few are quite as essential as 'Running Away', which has now been reissued by South Street Disco. Built around an instantly recognisable (and much-sampled groove), the extended 12" version is rich in rubbery, rising and falling bass, clipped guitars, spacey Rhodes motifs, superb lead vocals from Ayers and even better backing vocals courtesy of the female quintet who would later become Eighties Ladies (who's superb 'Tell Him' was reissued in 2020). Turn to the flip for another chance to savour Fever album-opener 'Love Will Bring Us Back Together', a deeper and more low-down disco groover that boasts some seriously good Clavinet riffs and another inspired Ayers' vocal.

Look At Me (reissue)
Cat: PROT 7049. Rel: 20 Nov 19
Look At Me (3:42)
Mystery Of Love (3:42)
Review: Amongst Roy Ayers' fans, "Look At Me" has always been one of the more sought-after items in the legendary artist's catalogue. It was originally pressed up by Polydor Japan as a promo-only seven-inch single in 1977 and has been almost impossible to find ever since. Happily it has now been reissued - once again, only in Japan, hence the import price here - allowing more collectors and fans to grab a copy. "Look at Me" is a laidback, breezy and soulful chunk of jazz-funk with a particularly impassioned lead vocal from Ayers, while flipside "Mystery of Love" is deep, groovy and languid in the best possible way.

Review: He is one of the soul scene's most unique players, a legendary vibraphone stylist and man who oozes cosmic funk. His He's Coming album is arguably his high water mark, one that has had its many great tracks pillaged and pilfered by countless hi- hop acts of the years. It's a record that brims with invention as it looks to the stars and features magical Rhodes chords next to steamy, introspective vocals, irresistible grooves and moments of emotional depth as well as dancefloor delights. This deluxe version comes on limited heavyweight ax via Elemental Music.

Review: Landing in perfect harmony with the warmer months, Roy Ayers' super-seminal 1970 album gets a reissue on limited yellow vinyl. And it's every bit as warm, delicious and essential as you already know it is. From the moment that iconic chant on the opener "Hey, Uh What You Say Come On" builds up right through to the slinky loose funk of "Lonesome Cowboy" fades out, this captures Roy in his most prime and vital. The sparkling drama of "People & The World", the dreamy vibraphone of "The Third Eye" and of course the timeless and massively influential tones of "Everybody Loves The Sunshine"... This album needs to be in every collection in the country. Don't sleep on it.

Review: Well, what can we say about this great piece of jazz fusion that hasn't already been said? The short answer is not much, but we can certainly add to the list of compliments and tell you that this is a super-clean Polypro repress, so you don't have to go out your way to listen to it PROPERLY. The man, Roy Ayers, is obviously a legend who still performs to this day, but this album must be some of his best work, and contains the cult single "Everybody Loves The Sunshine", sampled by everyone form here to Katmandu, and still a flawless song to this day. This dude is up there with the lies Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, etc etc. A stone-cold classic.

Review: Everybody Loves the Sunshine is a studio album by Roy Ayers released under Ubiquity umbrella. It was released through Polydor in 1976 and on the Billboard Chart peaked at number 51. Ayers' had long made his shift into R&B/soul by the mid '70s and the title track "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" is a quintessential song from the period - this is the very epitome of 'low slung'. The rest of the album contains other classics, such as the funky "It Ain't Your Sign It's Your Mind" the smooth and loungey soul of "The Third Eye" plus the upbeat disco inferno that is "People and the World". We should also mention the dynamic and funky closer "Lonesome Cowboy" where not only the drummer gets wicked!
