Going more synthpop than his prior projects, Pre-Code Hollywood aims for relatability, softly resting a friendly sonic hand on our shoulders, all while empathising with our lost minds and inner screams at the endless rehashings of 1980s themes in pop culture. Both feeding into and throwing shade on the style, Pre-Code Hollywood is certainly a multi-layered exercise in irony, calling out many of its potential fans as 'Gen-X slacker zeros' and 'antiheroes'.
