Sound Crafted On Earth
Review: Next-gen Romanian artist Costin RP is gaining serious traction via labels like Bleu Ciel, What You Want, Minimmal Movement, Pleasure Zone, Cardinal and Pressure Traxx. He here returns with a new single on the fervid Rawax, run by distributor DBH; the release dives intrepidly into Romanian minimal, 'Take A Trip With ME' and 'Sound Crafted On Earth' offering a masterclass in restraint and hypnotic pacing, having been tightly constructed to pull dancers into the depths.

Review: 90s house hears a fresh filtering through modern cochlear percolations, jointly brewed by Berlin-based producer Subb-An and Phonica AM founder Luther Vine. 'Night Long' comes to Rawax as first chronicling of any sort of collaboration between the pair, excepting 'an's 'Synchronicity' release on the latter label from 2022. Together, we hear the motion blurred recollections of barely sensorially remembered nights out, where punning night moves like 'Opti-Mystic' merge with such tenderly processed repeaters as 'The Zone', sure to cause speaker-stack adjacent flow states in club-goers.

Review: "How about a trip to the outer rings?" "I've... always wanted to go there." Sampling obscure sci-fi of evasive origin is the order of the day here on new Okbron signee Chronicle's new EP, 'Outer Rings'. Spruce but meticulous jungle purveys a sense of cruising endlessly on a linearly projected shuttle, destined for the outer rings. 'Albedo' complements with a chordophonic dreamscape, similar to the opener but with sensual vocals to support the listener's rapid-eye side-to-sides.

Review: Sub Basics' newest proposal 'Time Codes' hears the Kent DJ and producer find ample energy in the toothy topline: "sometimes you hear a sound which ruins you". The misophony that follows is a ruinous one indeed, with the iconoclastic 'Vacuum' leaving little room to breathe, and 'Plasma' further sucking all the red blood cells from our already rather vitrified ear veins, leaving behind an empty blood techno matrix. 'Anomaly' adds breaks to the B with a ruffly, featherweight detour, while 'Field' snaps back to depth, embiggening the raver's soul with syntonic, tightly harmonised chords.

Review: Partisan's third split EP brings together rising Eastern European artists Troy Vladislavovich (Ukraine) and Nicole (Georgia) for a tight four-tracker that fuses stripped-back club science with a touch of raw emotion. Vladislavovich's 'Breakdownce' and 'Illusion' are clean, wiry electro hybrids-tensioned grooves that snake with metallic precision. Nicole flips the energy on the flip, leaning into sultry vocals on 'Touch My Body'-a slinky, lo-fi house tool with subtle rave inflections-while 'Keep Dancing' rides a crisp, uptempo breakbeat pulse, equal parts sensual and propulsive. It's a confident, genre-blurring dialogue between two artists exploring the edges of electro, house and leftfield dance with poise.

Review: 'Bruno Boogie' throws Indian dance motifs into a blender with glossy disco-funk, and comes out the output side a slick, sweaty and strange pesto. The brains behind it are Euro Nettuno, still warm from their dreamy Apres Le Paradis drop on Polyamore, teaming up with label boss Bruno Belissimo, a multi-instrumentalist with a knack for fusing slap bass and synth swirl into tight, live-sounding cuts. The yield is a heady, percussion-rich blend, where Mumbai heat meets Rimini kitsch. Daniel Monaco steps in on remix duty, pushing it further into the cosmos with a deep, sinewy rerub, shortly before a radio edit comes on the B2, poised to disrupt the world service airchain.

The label now returns for its second outing with 'Magia Da Vudu' EP, where the EP's title elegies a close friend and local musical inspiration, Thaina Severo, aka Vudu. Further rooted in personal connection, the EP brings three rising talents to the fore, all of whom hail from areas close to the Amazon Basin: Molen (Uruguay), Trajano (Brazil) and Alquimic (Peru). Each contributes one tune to work both alone and in sequence, balancing distinct moods but a shared sonic DNA.

Let Yourself Go (Christopher Ledger remix)
Review: Berlin-based Donnie Cosmo launches Shuffle Valley with a sharp, deep-cut four-tracker that weaves through groove-led house, breaks, and subtle psychedelia. 'Space Time Surfer' opens the record with fluid basslines and glistening percussion-trippy but grounded, the kind of roller that finds its mark in long, locked-in blends. 'Let Yourself Go' shifts into broken rhythm mode, laced with loose drums and warped textures before slipping seamlessly into a steady 4/4-playful, mutating, and built for curious selectors. On the flip, 'International Acid' goes inward: smoky, hypnotic and slightly off-centre, it leans into more mental terrain without losing its grip on the floor. Christopher Ledger closes with a weightless rework of 'Let Yourself Go', adding polish and negative space while staying faithful to the original's off-kilter charm. A confident first chapter for the label, and a quietly distinctive release from an artist with a clear voice.

Review: Spanish techno powerhouse Andres Campo hits hard with four uncompromising club weapons for DCLTD. 'Conte Bleu' wastes no timeiit's heads-down tunnel techno with acidic flashes, reverb-drenched vocals and glimmering melodies swirling inside the chaos. 'Nuit Blanche' flips the script with a more syncopated, breaksy structure, its flickering metallic textures and jazzy FX giving way to an enormous vocal-led breakdown that manages to be both weird and raucously effective. On the B-side, 'Ligne Jaune' is all pressure and paranoia: distorted spoken samples swim through the mix as punishing percussion surges forward. 'Pois Gris' closes the set in sci-fi mode, splicing synthetic sirens, looping vocal chants and relentless stomping drums into something as dystopian as it is danceable. Designed for big systems and dim lights, this is techno with teeth.

Review: French producer The Avener's rework of 'The Fade Out Line' - originally by Australian band Phoebe Killdeer & The Short Straws - is one of those rare cross-border edits that reshapes its source without flattening its soul. Built around slow-burning deep house drums and Killdeer's smoky vocal, the track feels like it was made for long car rides at dusk. Released in 2013 and widely championed a year later, it went on to top the German charts and break into France's top three, eventually earning platinum and diamond certifications. Alle Farben's remix takes a more expansive route, adding club weight without killing the mood. Though unmistakably of its era, this remains one of the sleekest examples of deep house's radio moment - a brooding, low-slung groove that still hits harder than it ought to.

Review: Madrid-born, London-based artist Tarde Loco delivers a striking debut full of Latin-tinged rhythm, playful swing and finely tuned percussion, all underscored by the touch of a genuinely gifted musician. 'Viva L'Amore', featuring Noemi Caneva, blends breezy vocals with loose-limbed grooves and an understated confidence that instantly draws you in. 'Turbo' steps things up with warped synth licks and erratic funk-trippy and floor-ready without trying too hard. On the vinyl-only 'Ai Ai', he dials into a late-night minimalism, letting tight drum work and hypnotic repetition do the heavy lifting. 'Tu Cintura' closes the set in sun-drenched fashion, laced with percussive detail and an effortless sense of motion. Having honed his craft across El Salvador and London, Tarde Loco arrives with a sound that's both distinctive and deeply rooted in live energy-crafted for dancers, but brimming with his own musical handwriting.

These edits proffer yet another slice of crazy-life glitz, its A-sider decider especially offering much lyrical fodder for the philosophical taking away: "life ain't so bad at all... just enjoy yourself".

Review: Seven months on from the release of his superb Paris, Rome album, Public Possession regular DJ City returns to the Munich-based imprint - and this time he's got sometime Wolf Music and Semi Delicious contributor Manuel Darquart in tow. The pair treat us to three takes on 'I Need'. There's the EP-leading 'Italo Version', a smooth, dreamy and suitably sun-splashed electronic house cut smothered in Italo-disco style synths and a stylised lead vocal by Darquart; the more stripped-back, deep house style warmth of the 'Club Version'; and a DJ-friendly 'Beatless Version' that's propelled forwards by a restless bassline and cascading synth sounds. It also offers more opportunity to wallow in Darquart's effects-laden vocal.

Review: French producer Janeret delivers a sleek, late-night four-tracker for Haws, channelling progressive house, techy swing, and spacey atmospheres with effortless precision. 'Cosmic Travel' sets the tone with celestial pads and a rubbery low-end, driving forward on crisp, grooved percussion. 'Gap' leans deeper, with radiant synth glides and just enough rhythmic bite to hold the tension. On the flip, 'Process' locks into a more heads-down flow-trance-inflected but controlled, its melodic elements kept tight and functional. 'Rewind' closes with a dubbed-out shimmer, its weighty drums and warm, hazy textures wrapping the record in golden-hour glow. With all four tracks dialled for extended blends and high-spec systems, this is Janeret at his most refined-slick, spacious and built for dancers who like their euphoria with a touch of restraint.

Jazz
Review: A flummoxing fusion of jazz, soul and funk from 1972, Donald Byrd's Think Twice is ironically one of few jazz records that we don't really have to think twice about. Taken from the bokeh-grained, 1974 impressionistic prog-jazz opus Stepping Into Tomorrow - on which a whirlwind cast of performers including Mayuto Correa, Larry Mizell, Gary Bartz and Harvey Mason also appear - Byrd's unmistakable trumpet is heard whinnying across this LP-fronter, which rides serious thermals of flugelhorn, soprano and alto sax, ARP synth and backing choir. The vocals by Kay Haith are duly cautionary, insisting but seemingly also tantalising our worst impulses: "Maybe we oughta think twice... Before we start something nice / No need to sacrifice the spice in our lives, ooh ooh / our love's like fire and ice, pretty baby / That's why we oughta think twice..." A rare anti-YOLO anthem!

His 'Brother's' is a perfect example of that as a deep house classic that is reimagined with fresh takes from Francesco Mami, YokOo and Sascha himself. Dive's Tribal American version amps up the percussion for a hypnotic, groove-filled trip. Review: The Ray Contreras Band, fixtures of the 80s New York dance scene, first released 'You Make It Harder' as a 7" under the name Contreras / Sokolov / Milgrom. A rare, twilight boogie-funk track specially cherished among nostalgists, the record again avails itself this time in the form of a 12" single, expanded over four formerly unreleased songs. A supremely satisfying, deep-plombing mix takes the cake on the A1 as Elliot Sokolov's impassioned vocals recount the experience of romantic frustration through sharp, between-the-lines intakes of breath. 'Wishful Thinking', 'If You Want My Love', 'I Can Feel Your Heartbeat', and 'Miami Girl' follow as the criminally unreleased demos, all of which are as hit-worthy as the A, we kid you not. New York electro-funk at its finest, whiffing with tasteful cheese.

It's a sleek, well-balanced record that drifts weightlessly while never losing its kinetic edge. Opener 'Fucha' is full of movement that is techy and slick. The flighty percussion is crisp and the uptempo pulse works perfectly for those that want to raise the energy but still keep a level of class. 'Imatra' injects melodic flourishes into its groove, balancing playfulness with subtle complexity. Flip to Side-B and the tone shifts slightly. 'Temoa' is spacious and atmospheric, flowing with dub textures that ripple across a misty soundscape. It's deep house with a thoughtful, cinematic arc. Closer 'Chomdao' almost crosses the plane into a trance beauty unfolding in waves of organic textures and beautiful pads. This EP is shimmering with wonderful futuristic techno tracks.

Review: Something special happens when a re-edits producer manages to loop the climax of a soul belting at just the right, high-pitched point, and that's exactly what's been achieved on this latest Alex Preston number. With DJ support from the likes of Danny Howard, Mark Knight, Milk & Sugar and Boston Dub, you just know that this one's stayed on heaviest rotation even before official release day. We can vouch for the Sydney producer's great taste: a Jocelyn Brown and Talking Heads edit each (the former track hears the aforementioned high-pitching technique) provide respective, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for primetime dancefloor jouissance.

Review: The Owl label kicks on with another party-starting mix of edits and remixes that blend funk, disco and soul into pure heat. 'Gimme Your Thang' is a low-slung opener with a filthy bassline and James Brown samples bringing it to life. 'Freaky To You' reworks a g-funk classic into a lavish and bumping slow-motion seducer and 'Rock Me Again' brings chunky, rolling funk with more classic vocal samples. 'Future Shock' shuts down with a lovely falsetto vocal and some psyched-out guitars.

Review: Like a veteran striker in his final season, GAMM has really captured some top form on late and now drops a fire premiere from Chicago's Emmaculate and legendary Basement Boys producer DJ Spen. Opener 'Step Into A Black Whole' is a genre-hopping 11-minute journey that moves from deep house to a hip-hop breakdown featuring KRS-One before morphing into a jazzy Afrobeat stomper. First heard by GAMM contributor Coflo during a wild house set, the track blew the roof off and always will. On the B-side, 'Boogie On Disco Woman' delivers a gritty funk, disco and soul rework with raw drums, clavinets and soulful vocals. Two standouts.

Review: Helsinki's Kaspiann continues his VALA series with four transportive techno excursions steeped in tactile detail and subterranean mood. A regular presence on labels like Delsin and Optic Portal, the Finnish producer uses this platform to dive deeper into his signature style-precision-tooled, polyrhythmic, and immersive. 'Sammalkammen' sets the tone with a pillowy low-end and humid midrange that clings like lichen to stone, while 'Sienikieli' winds through maze-like drum programming with hypnotic insistence. On the flip, 'Suohunaja' oozes through sticky atmospheres and molasses-thick textures, before 'Niin Vain' closes on an elegant mesh of pointillist percussion and flickering pads. As ever, Kaspiann avoids obvious climaxes in favour of something more mesmeric-techno that doesn't reach for transcendence, but slowly draws you inward.

Review: While the required mystery means that we can never be quite sure who is behind the Moxy Edits series and My Edits imprint, many are reportedly by the man behind the Moxy Music label, house hero Darius Syrossian. We suspect - though cannot confirm - that he's at the control on this latest instalment in the series, which feature two house reworks of classic cuts. On A-side 'In The Know', he delivers a killer slab of warehouse-ready hip-house, where a familiar, high-octane rap rides heavy-but-bouncy beats, an infectious bassline and occasional blasts of the infamous (and much-sampled) 'Apache' break. Over on side B, 'Square Hole' is a housed-up take on a Steely Dan classic previously sampled by De La Soul. Both cuts are bona fide party classics in the making.

For this one on his own superb Scruniversal label he turns his attention to the lush sound world of City Pop over in Japan. On one vital 12" the maestro cooks up six varied but equally vital sizzlers starting with the funky sounds and big brass of 'One For Xsuxsu' then taking in the blissed out disco and house beats of 'Kyoto Sunshine', jazzy keys of 'Horomi & Rikishi', funky bass twangs of 'Secret Dream' and jazz lunge excellence of 'Nippon Bossa' before 'Scrutinised Tune' closes out with brown beats and sunny chords. Review: Medicine Music offer us a remedy, but not a cure, for a chronic ailment of ours: for some reason we simply cannot shake the compulsion to seek out disco edits in quadruply combined pill form. The second volume in Dr. Packer's own reworks series, this new'un follows the first edition released far back in 2017. 'Hint Of Love' and 'Watch Your Back' span nouveau riche falsettos and dirt-caked soul baritones respectively, proving the polyphonic potential of disco's voices despite the unknowability of the samples so sourced. 'Chesty Lady Of The West' is meanwhile the perkiest tune on the record, curling through a minimal, backwashy sound, where guitars soar gleefully in a surfy space above the 10th fret.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Drop Music marks a marvellous quarter of a century of releases with this new slab of vinyl featuring some gems from disco funksters Crazy P and the house mainstays Inland Knights. Crazy P go first with 'Disc Odyssey' which is perfectly indicative of their much beloved sound with its low slung kicks and funky bassline. Inland Knights then offer a trio of in demand & unreleased tracks. 'Overnight' is a bumming deep house joint, 'Walk On' has an icy late night vibe and balmy pads and 'Do It Again is a more playful closer, with some killer b-line action. All four, needless to say, are timeless gems, and the fact the last two are appearing on vinyl first the first time makes it an even more desirable cop.

Review: By now, most dedicated househeads should known 2Fox and Laville's debut single, 'Elevation' - an effortlessly soulful chunk of lightly gospel-influenced deep house brilliance that has been bubbling away since the summer of 2024. The regular, full vocal versions were recently released on wax and now we get the alternative dubs. Masters at Work man and all-round NYC legend Louie Vega steps up first with a swirling, deep, hypnotic and extra-percussive take that makes good use of selected lead and backing vocal snippets, before label bosses Soul Clap slap down a deep, groovy, tech-tinged dub straight from the top drawer. Over on the reverse, we get a vocal-free 'Dub-strumental' of Vega's EP-leading take, as well as a more vocal heavy, gospel house style 'Zero Hour' dub by New York veteran Tommy Musto.

Waiting For The Sun (Sunrise reprise) (3:04)
Review: Scottish veteran Hifi Sean - once, in an ancient time, frontman of indie stars The Soup Dragons - doesn't really do half-measures. 'Waiting for the Sun' is his first 12" since rinsing out the Fire Island remix in 2021, and it lands somewhere between gospel house uplift and morning-after clarity. The original version doesn't hold back - full-bodied keys, layered vocals, and a central hook that sounds like it came to him mid-dog walk, which, in fairness, it did. It could have collapsed under its own optimism, but somehow doesn't. The acapella confirms just how tightly constructed the vocal work is - stacked, reverent, and stubbornly catchy. 'Sunset Dub' dials things down without losing shape, keeping the bassline intact while pulling most of the colour. 'Sunrise Reprise' nudges things into the kind of end-of-night territory where no one's really dancing anymore but still doesn't want to leave. Not a reinvention, but a sharp, self-contained reminder that Hifi Sean knows exactly what his lane is - and how to drive directly through it at golden hour.

Review: If you like your disco, funk and soul edits noodly, low-slung and spiritual, consider your options no further than Dave Maze's D&E imprint. Homegrown in Chicago - long fecundated Midwestern ground for all things dignified dance music - Maze cultivated D&E out of the local rare groove and soulful house scene in the city, going on to sign many an eminent on the circuit. But it's Maze himself here who shines, slaying the Minotaur to master a labyrinthine haul of tracks complementing an initial two 'Disco Yams' from October: these are root veg, groove prize-winners, plucked from the ground. Uncanny strings and digital disco progressions make for a rarely cold, inorchestral movement on the A, which develops quite assuredly.

From the cinematic opener to the dreamy closer, Void crafts a narrative of time's fluidity as past, present and future all blur into one. 'Mind Illusion' and 'Transmissions' soar with nostalgic optimism and lush pads, while 'Revival' slows into intimate introspection and echoes themes of healing. 'Space Talk' closes with mellow acid touches and hazy atmospheres. Rather than rushing forward, Mind Illusion invites reflection and proves that harmony is found in quiet momentum.

Kepler has been a regular contributor to this fine catalogue and returns with more of his shuffling, playful and charming garage cuts. 'Recall' manages to be both deep and driving, with cute chord stabs and a smart vocal sample that adds the r&b gloss. 'Flavour' has those old school stabs and filthy basslines and 'Loft Groove' is a bouncy, low-slung number with organic percussion. Review: UK-born, Ghanaian-rooted artist Nectar Woode emerges with a confident and quietly affecting six-tracker that blends soul, pop and subtle jazz inflections. Co-produced by Jordan Rakei, opener 'Only Happen' is the clear standout-smoky and restrained, it pairs Woode's hushed vocals with brushed drums and woozy keys, unfolding a slow-burning meditation on self-worth and constraint. The tone stays close and intimate across the EP: 'LOSE' leans into classic soul phrasing with a contemporary lightness, while 'Ama Said' brings familial wisdom into focus via delicate guitar work. On the B-side, 'Light As A Feather' drifts over gentle polyrhythms, and 'When The Rain Stops' taps into a kind of late-night clarity. Woode's delivery remains understated but potent, and this measured confidence is part of her strength-she doesn't oversell the emotion, but lets the detail do the work. A compelling and sensitive new voice.

Review: Two of the UK's most charismatic icons collide on this gleefully chaotic charity single from 1985, now reissued to mark its 40th anniversary. Originally recorded to raise funds for Live Aid, 'Dancing in the Street' sees David Bowie and Mick Jagger tear through the Martha and the Vandellas classic with unfiltered, hyperactive abandon. What began as a quick studio session and impromptu video shoot became an unforgettable piece of pop history-equal parts kitsch and cult. This new edition gathers all versions for the first time, including the Clearmountain and Steve Thompson mixes, a dub, an instrumental, and the original edit. Despite the studio polish, the irreverence remains intact: camp, combustible and loaded with pure 80s energy. A portion of proceeds continues to support the Band Aid Charitable Trust, in keeping with the track's original purpose-proof that even a one-day collaboration can leave a decades-long imprint.

Review: For our landmark 400th release! Two of the most prolific remixers in the world of Disco, Dave Lee and John Morales have teamed up for one of their biggest projects to date - 'Mixed To The Maxxx' After gaining access from the legendary original artists these two highly esteemed producers take the multi-track tapes of many classic Disco, Funk & Soul tracks and re-work them...to the Maxxx! Here we are treated to a double 12" sampler of what is to come from the Album later this year.
First up, the Bass twanging floor filler version from Dave Lee of 'The Brothers Johnson - The Real Thing', which has already been causing a stir in his DJ sets of late, featuring lots of musical parts not audible in the original. Following up is Dave's Friday Night Fever Mix of Philly legends 'Bell & James - US chart hit "Livin' It Up (Friday Night)' where he beefs up and extends the original to re-step back out on the town, a masterclass in elevating something that is already great to start with.
On the second 12", we have John Morales taking on a biggie! Inner Life's - Aint No Mountain High Enough. Here, John handles the prestigious parts with the respect due, re-shaping key moments in a new light and bringing the sonics up to par for modern dancefloors, an Anthem Mix indeed. To finish proceedings, Morales takes on British Jazz-Funk band 'Light Of The World' with their mum loved classic 'London Town', bumping the tempo a touch and beefing up the funk.

Review: 25 editions deep now, the Attack The Dancefloor 12" series is where we at ZR do our best to cater to our "Is it coming out on vinyl?" crew. Kicking off proceedings is Dave Lee's mix of Foremost Poets classic 'Beside Myself', a brand new remix where Dave delivers a stonking, cowbell cracking slice of house with the soulful joy Johnny Dangerous brings with his vocals. Ich Liebe Es Zu Tanzen!.
On the flip is Output / Input's 'Every Time You Touch Me' which gets Boogiefied by Dave Lee, who adds slick Moog bass, jazz-funk guitars & brassy synths under Antonio McLendon's Luther-esque vocal performance. To close out is one for the Garage heads, an exclusive 'Vocal Dub Pressure' version of Groove Assassin's recent hit remix of Destiny II's 'I'm Here For This' which is currently not available digitally. Review: Watersheds of feelgood house and gloss-talgic beats abound on Sofia Kourtesis' new album Volver, out now via Ninja Tune. Written between Berlin and Lima, it's the producer and DJ's most vibrant and politically charged work yet, billed as a dedication to trans women and queer communities fighting for survival under corrupt healthcare systems in Latin America. Laid throughout with rousing spoken-work samples calling for street protest and revolutions of everyday life, this is a modern summer house record with a reinstallation of the same sense of political urgency inscribed in much New York ballroom and early deep house. Kourtesis likens its creation to an Almodovar film: chaotic, painful, and joy-soaked, recorded while juggling the whopping combo of world tours, grassroots activism, the care of her mother, and medical school. Lead single 'Unidos' is a kinetic collaboration with Daphni aka Dan Snaith, notably marking his first release under that alias with another artist.

For the B-side, the remix is a bit reserved in parts favoring to highlight the vocal, melody and main keyboard hook . 'Touch Me' is a track that still works as well today as it did 25 years ago.

DJ Shadow - "Lost & Found (SFL)"

Review: Lost and Found is an instrumental hip-hop landmark that captures DJ Shadow and DJ Krush at the height of their powers. Originally a label-defining early release on Mo Wax, both sides of this split single set the blueprint for sample-heavy, cinematic beat-making that still resonates today. Shadow's layered textures and Krush's dusty groove sensibilities complement each other perfectly, both tracks blending eerie atmospheres with deep, off-kilter rhythm, bridging Tokyo and California in a haze of vinyl crackle and head-nod funk. Essential listening i not just for fans of Shadow or Krush, but for anyone curious about the roots of modern downtempo and trip-hop.

Review: 20/20 Vision marks its 30th anniversary with another great release here in the form of some remixes of Crazy P's iconic single 'Stop Space Return'. The late Danielle Moore's unmistakable vocals shine across two stellar reworks from Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy who infuses her cosmic, acid-laced disco energy into the track. Her Cosmodelica Remix and Dub version blend trippy 303s, cowbells and deep grooves into something suitably fresh. Also included are two classic Unabombers mixes from 2009, and they offer raw house heat and dubbed-out psychedelia that serves as a fine floor-focused reinterpretation of a beloved anthem.

PACH - "Critical Emergency"
Review: Fragments Of Reality is an ongoing series from 20/20 Visions that explores interplanetary sounds, and this seventh outing is another doozy. American artist Miles Mercer kicks off with the crunchy drums and big hits of his acid-laced electro-tech fusion, 'Voice Control.' Shaked flip the script with a funky minimal jam that's wired up with innocent sounding melodies and lush colours that feel psychoactive. Label curator Luther Vine then flips things once again with his punchy 'Take The Wheel' with its bold bassline and tight tech bounce, while London's Pach serves up 'Critical Emergency' which hits a sweet spot between trip-out cosmic synth work and kinetic drum programming. Four tasteful tools once more from this fine old label.

Feel What You Want
Review: 20/20 Vision's 30th birthday celebrations continue apace with another choice reissue. This one throws it over to Huxley, a prolific and accomplished producer who defined the house and garage sounds of the 2010s. This EP is from 2012 and is one of many standouts that exemplify his bass-driven style. 'Box Clever' brings big paint stabs and bubbly rhythms, 'Atonement' is a low-slung and deep cut with warm pads and silky bass and 'Feel What You Want' is full of colourful cosmic pads and more irresistible grooves. Also included is a new mix from Berlin house Queen Cinthie alongside, for the first time ever, her partner Meat. It's a chunky cut with a new school twist on classic house.

Review: Originally released in 2011 during the second big coming of deep house, Maya Jane Coles' 'Focus Now' EP returns as part of 20/20 Vision's Full Circle 30th Anniversary series. It's been out of print for years and harks back to a very different sound from Coles, who has since spread her sonic wings into many different worlds. This reissue features all three original tracks, starting with 'Focus Now,' a soft focus and bubbly blend of pulsing synths and rubbery drums, 'Little One' which was something of a warehouse classic of its time, and 'Senseless' with Coles' own vocals and slow motion drum churn. Alongside those is 'The High Life', another syrupy and warm blend of smooth drums and aching vocal hooks that, like the rest of the cuts, is freshly remastered.

Review: Electro don Carl Finlow dropped 'Convergence' under his Random Factor alias back in 2005. It was a definitive showcase of the talent that continues to stand him out two decades on and is completely devoid of samples. Every note is carefully crafted as part of an emotional electro-pop classic that track gained legendary status thanks to Craig Richards, who has made it a regular in his sets at Fabric and Houghton Festival. San Fran's John Tejada injects glitchy textures and stuttered vocals into his rework, and this reissue includes a subtly remastered version with improved fidelity and brand-new artwork by Finlow himself.

Review: Born of Italy's late-70s disco explosion, Change were known for their frictionless blend of European groove and American soul, scoring international success with 'The Glow of Love' and 'Searching'. Their latest single sees Tanya Michelle Smith step in on vocals, bringing warmth and clarity to a lush, live-instrumentally-driven psychodrama, nodding further to a golden-era sound that excises nostalgia for a modern twist. As well as the original, this 12" hears two reworks from MM & AT, extending our floor fortunes out to an extra remix by Figo Sound & JL. A strong return from a group whose music has long stood at the junction of sophistication and soul.

The More I Get, The More I Want (A Dimitri From Paris Disco re-edit)
Review: A magical meeting of masters of their art here, as Philadelphia International's master of soaring disco-soul, the late, great Teddy Pendergrass, gets the multi-track re-edit treatment from French maestro Dimitri From Paris - a man who has been delivering killer extensions and scalpel revisions for decades. In keeping with his trademark style, there's plenty of stripped back tease-and-release action in the life-affirming take on 'You Can't Hide From Yourself', with the Parisian expertly building an epic full vocal version that also manages to show off the immense musicianship at the heart of the original version. His take on 'The More Get, The More I Want', which comes complete with stripped-back sing-along sections and portions of heads-down groove extensions, is if anything even better - a rushing peak-time delight to set any dancefloor alight!
