Review: After the way Dorian Blue Part 1 permeated through dance floors across the globe and shook listeners at their core, The Advent is back on Thema Recordings with an unrivaled return. His calescent energy has only grown with time, culminating in three interminable tracks of jacked body mechanics. Whether it's the hammering slapback of the A side or the signature electro-infused B side, there's nothing here for a tame dance floor. Seeing as these heaters begged to be thrown around as doubles, a series of locked grooves have been included for those with the skillset to match their collection. With everything resting easily around the 130 mark, the searing pressure of these productions is undeniable. The Advent cements his legacy once again with a record that is not for the faint of heart.

This organic enrichment, which is an addition or better said, an enhancement in Alci's soundscape, result from the various inspirations Alci underwent during his travels and time spent surrounded by nature as well as urban nightlife.

Review: Newcastle via London label Jaunt Records revisits its 10 year anniversary EP from 2017 with a series of great remixes by Inland, Jonas Kopp, Jasper Wolff & Maarten Mittendorff and Gian. This is the first of two EPs planned, and it offers up a timeless mix of heady techno and slick electro.

Berlin based Brit Inland tackles Jaunt resident Blackhall & Bookless's 'Spirit' and serves up a heavyweight wedge of warehouse techno. On the same side, Jonas Kopp flips 'Itria' into a sci-fi tinged bit of dub techno and long time studio partners Jasper Wolff & Maarten Mittendorff from Indigo Aera offer widescreen synth work and blissed out pads all tethered to rolling and rubbery drums. Gian's take on Stojche's track is a fantastically crisp and futurist piece of electro that will get anyone on their toes. This is a classy EP that showcases the sort of sounds you will hear on any Jaunt dance floor.

  5. Cheeting
Review: For the second salvo in their "Secret Sun" series of unreleased 1990s techno tracks, O.C.D has plucked five superb cuts from the dusty DAT tapes of Scott Featherstone, a period producer who released one 12" as Beyond A Void way back in 1992. They've found some genuine gold, too, with the five previously unheard tracks offering a melodious and floor-friendly mixture of languid electro rhythms, shuffling breakbeats, tight techno drums, weighty bass, colourful lead lines, atmospheric ambient techno pads, subtle Yorkshire bleep motifs and lashings of sun-kissed deep house melodies. Highlights are plentiful throughout, though we're particularly enjoying the sub-heavy swing of "Dat007", the Motor City influenced brilliance of "Ecordes" and the clanking sci-fi futurism of "Cheeting" [sic].

Coming out of Warsaw and with a couple of aliases already under his belt, Blu Terra delivers three tracks spanning aquatic soundscapes and unexpected rave elements.

The A1, Person Sans, mobilises moving pads and punchy synths. 20,000 is a detailed acid exercise with animalistic overtones. Lastly, Western/Eastern is a hard hitting incendiary track which patiently builds to a raving crescendo.

Review: The latest techno tale from the Amazing Stories crew is "The Earth Rehabilitators", a post-apocalyptic epic in four audio installments. Saverio Celestri sets the scene via "Ethereal", a deep and woozy chunk of machine driven techno warmth, before Jacopo takes up the reigns with a cut that brilliantly wraps bubbly synth melodies, fizzing acid lines and yearning chords around a chunky bassline and Motor City style drums. Otis moves the story forwards on "Axes Of Continuity", whose bleeping lead line and sleazy counter-melody help create a mesmerizing mood, while Fede Lijt delivers a cheerily glassy-eyed conclusion on the alien-sounding brilliance of deep techno-meets-deep house cut "Deflexion".

Review: Mike 'Agent X' Clark is a true hero of the Detroit scene, but he rarely gets the props he deserves, making any outing of his a cause for celebration. El Provost's No Speakers label knows what's up, and they've drafted in Clark for his killer jam "The Heat." The name is no foil, this track will set any party ablaze with its distinctive speech sample and saucy rhythm section. Alongside the original, there is a strong cast of remixers on hand to serve up deadly variations, from the label boss' skipping, psyched-out groover to Ben Sims' appropriately thumping techno workout. Peter Rocket especially impresses with a crafty breaks version that should slot in nicely with the resurgent electro scene.

Review: Ghetto-house originator DJ Deeon continues to dish up devilishly dancefloor-friendly material a quarter of a century after making his debut on Dance Mania. This first ChiWax outing is really rather good. As with much of his output, all bar one of the six cuts (the curiously off-beat, pitched-down "Much Respect") are powered forward by beats and basslines so springy that you'd think they were made with some future fusion of rubber and elastic. There are a few cuts that boast chopped and looped vocal stabs (see "In This House" and the classic late night ghetto-house jack of "Da Bomb"), while the A-side's three booming cuts offer subtly different takes on percussion-rich, bass-heavy ghetto-tech.

From start to finish, the untitled set is a throbbing rush of futurist techno, fizzing electro and muscular Italo-disco workouts, with Upton's trademark sound - think funk-fuelled synth-bass, psychedelic acid lines, intergalactic chord sequences and inspired electronic flourishes - guaranteeing countless cuts of timeless electronic music. Feeling & Above are tracks that marked Exzakt's return and are the first tunes he produced on this journey. Feeling is moody, pure electro with many layers which touches more on his classic, original sound. BFX puts his unique take on the same tune with exciting results. Bass driven beats with hints of 4/4 keep this song moves into new exciting directions. With Kinesthetic joining Exzakt, Above is a banger which starts when the bass kicks. Deep strings and driving sonic sounds move this track until the end. For the gran finale of the EP, Brice Kelly hands in one of the freshest Electro songs you will hear today. Review: Electro master par excellence Carl Finlow makes a swift return to Orson after gracing the label with his expert sounds just earlier this year. Orson have been busy, releasing Mesak and Point B in the meantime, but Finlow has that midas touch that never dulls with time. Lead track "Elastic Collisions" is a great slice of freaky electro that struts at an easy tempo, while "Octodecillion" wriggles and writhes a little faster for those that want a proper workout. "Probabilities" sees Finlow really exercising his gift for sound design and atmospheric composition in widescreen fashion. "Mechanomics" completes the set with a punchy growler that should sit comfortably in the bag of any dedicated electro jockey worth their salt.

Regular collaborators Malin and Yaleesa have turned out plenty of joint 12"s in the past on Will & Ink and this very label, and they sound more comfortable and sonically aligned than ever on this mighty record. There's no messing with "Alpha Decay," a loose and lysergic dubby techno workout. "Tachyon" orbits a similar soundworld, but shears the fat away for a minimal palette that sounds powerful echoing around the ample space in the mix. "Muck" slips into freaky after hours house territory, and "Stocha" drops a massive Basic Channel dub techno chord around a whisper of a beat to devastating effect.

Review: Birmingham experimental dub terrorist Mick Harris inaugurates new Madrid imprint Trauma Collective here as Monrella, with four brand new executions of sheer naked aggression. It was under this moniker that Harris (aka Fret/Lull) released half a dozen EPs for Karl O'Connor's ZET label between 1996 - 2002 - a strong departure from his previous involvement in seminal grindcore outfit Naplalm Death, and the experimental Scorn project (with fellow band member Nik Bullen). Fierce, functional and direct impact grooves that lunge straight for the jugular, the cuts featured on the Build Time EP recapture the zeitgeist of legendary local club night House Of God - an institution responsible for unleashing fellow legends such as Regis and Surgeon back in the day. Although somewhat overlooked, Harris' sound under this alias has most definitely evolved, and follows through with enough dancefloor dynamics to blend with other modern techno sounds.

entangled landscapes of a crisis-riden time.

Residing today in the company of many post-industrial wonders, from Reykjavik's semi-subterranean water reserve Gvendarbrunnar to the phallus-shaped Smaralind mall, NonniMal prefers to give salience to his environment and remain extensively unknown. In this untitled high-octane techno EP, he spurs us to imagine an uncanny coalescence of glacial disaster into the minimalism of enumeration.

Review: After the success of the 2 Late 4 Love EP, Roy Of The Ravers returns to Emotional Response with a double LP with a deeper perspective, experimenting in ambient and drone textures, lucid techno travails and acid interludes.
Recorded between 1997 and 2017, the album was pieced together over the last six months after Roy's archives were first feared lost and then found. Approached by the label to release a follow up with something more introspective and personal, it was discovered that a recent move to a new studio had led to over 20 years of music being misplaced after it was believed they were mistakenly dropped at a local charity store. However, deep in a box of what were thought to be patch cables were in fact the decades worth of hard drives and here presented, is a sample of those lost recordings.
The nature of the music is introspection, eschewing the acid beats and white noise for a personal encounter between man and machine. The orchestral opening of the title track gives way to the submarine beats, pulsing TB303 and gliding hats of Robinson College 10 to set the outlook to come. Even with the scattering A Dim And Distant Past waking lulled senses, the melodies and feel all lead to a pause and reflect rather than jump and shout.
This is continued with the haunting drives of Bounce Erec and Oriental X0X-Press; the twisted, warped jams of The Weber Traum Boat Pt.3, Ichi and Roland Corp Labs 05; and the beautiful, heartfelt odes in Sade Lost Theme, The Clock House Pt.2 and closer, Nemesis '01. The album's melodic nature hums and shines as CS (6x8) appears as much a centre piece as a alternative consideration to the acid tinged, club bangs of Roy's releases to date.
A surprise package maybe, but in the rolling, word of mouth phenomena that was Emotinium II, all this and more was sensed and so White Line Sunrise II, spreading across 12 songs of contrasting moods, is a further affirmation that there is something good and worthy of exploration

Review: Lock up your 303s, Roy Of The Ravers is back with a brand spanking new album and it's quite possibly his strongest and wrongest to date! Following a limited run cassette version of the album, Who Are Ya lands on gatefold vinyl and spans 10 tracks and nearly 60 minutes of top quality turns, which sees our star player's BPM rising up into tougher, more hardcore-esque territory (Supremacy Acid, Roy Shat Over Ref) Who Are Ya also takes in some seriously smoked-out, slow-mo squelchers (Phaelon Acid 4, The Box) essentially making it a game of 2 halves (no mid tempo tracks allowed - ok??!) Through-out all of the album's giddy twists and turns however, it's Roy's trademark 303 constantly on the boil that crowns him man of the match, as he dribbles it skilfully from in and out of the mix, making him top of the league for acid once again. Hoorar!!

Review: Militant Detroit techno crew Scan 7 have learned much from their association with Underground Resistance, not least the benefits of myth-making and mystery. This is one of the reasons that "Between Worlds" is fast becoming one of techno's most talked about releases of 2019. Of course, the fact that it's also the seven-piece crew's first album since 2002 has added to the hype, too. So is it any good? Oh yes. Variously deep, spacey, futuristic and foreboding, the album's 13 cuts range from pitch-black acid-fired techno ("I'm Covered") and fizzing techno-funk ("Trackmasta Hoop"), to percussion-laden deep house melancholia ("Deep Roots") and punchy club electro ("It's Time"). For the most part, though, what you get is uplifting, emotion rich techno in the style of their fellow Detroit greats.

Review: Silent Season is proud to present Segue's third full-length LP with the label. On his new album, Jordan Sauer explores a new facet of West Canadian natural history. Four thousand years ago, Western Canada's First Nations people migrated into the fjords and rainforests carved out by the retreating glaciation of the last Ice Age. The Island is a tribute to Canada's prehistory and the spiritual journey of a people entering a forever- altered landscape to call their home.

While Segue's last album very much explored a cross section journey of British Columbia from the mountains to the sea, The Island explores the hidden coastlines and inlets that pepper a still- mysterious landscape.

Throughout the album, each song spreads out beautifully as a reflection of the place or thing it's named after and paints a stunning portrait of BC's natural wealth. At first glance it seems like a tourist's guide, but when you listen deeper, The Island blossoms into something deeply personal and moving- a sonic imprint of places in relation to culture. One listen will put you right in the rainforests and mountains that the Coast Salish has called their home.

Review: The latest release on Verdant is brimming with talent, both from the original artists and the remixers. Sirko Muller leads the charge with the enveloping reverb immersion of "Affinity," a stately slice of dub techno if ever we heard one. RV800's "Bmax Hyperbole" version of the track inserts a more forthright groove, transmuting the spacious meditation into heads down dancefloor connection. Jonno & Tommo's "Efficacy" sparks up the B side with a moody strain of deep house loaded with noirish tension and peppered with needlepoint sound design wriggles. Then Havantepe delivers a remix of "Efficacy" that positively flips the script with a melancholic strain of electro that still bangs where it counts.

Review: If you dig electro, you should be well aware of the work of Transparent Sound. The Bognor Regis-based label has been serving up killer cuts and must-have EPs since the mid 1990s, though it's been rather quiet in recent years. In fact, "Gently Evil" is founder Orson Brambley's first album length excursion for almost a decade, making it a real event release. Kicking off with the bubbly intergalactic ambient of "Pretend Like You Care", the nine track album sees the veteran production partnership alternate between snappy electro club cuts, deeper electronic excursions, heady sci-fi soundscapes, punchy Motor City techno workouts and the kind of dark, unearthly dancefloor fare once associated with Drexciya. It is, then, a well thought out and executed album where the quality threshold remains impressively high throughout.

Review: On BAS008 Bassiani welcome Voiski and his uplifting take on techno. Cascading snares, dreamy melodies and a good dose of cosmically charged sounds make "Our Brilliant Future" a beautifully crafted ode to hope. The motive comes in many facets: starting off with "Sit Down Next To Me" and it's tightly knit melody, retrospective amalgamates with futurism. Then we dive into the roaring cave of "Chasing Shadows", where the bass is deep and the synths cheeky. "TearSystem" stays true to its name: rave romanticism in its crystallized form. Fading out on "Your Heart Starts To Race" Voiski closes on a distant note, nevertheless attuned with the cosmic groove.

Review: Fernando Zapico AKA Z@p is one of those producers whose work is always worth a listen, primarily because his quality threshold is very high. This two-track missive on My Own Jupiter picks up where his recent EP for Japanese imprint Cabaret left off, delivering faintly foreboding futurist techno whose sci-fi inspirations are clear to hear. A-side "Brutalismo" sets the tone, with paranoia-inducing analogue bass, creepy synth stabs and swirling electronic textures rising above a punchy drum machine-driven groove. "We Control The Sound" is notably denser and a little darker, with sturdier beats, moodier chord sequences and a bone-chilling breakdown.
