Kylie Auldist & Skinny Dipp - "Back For More" (3:36)
Kylie Auldist & Lincoln Room - "Party At My Place" (3:27)
Review: "I'm like a monkey with cocaine" goes the vocal on the opening tune here but that conjures up images of quite a riotous scene. In fact, the music is superbly seductive, cool and calm, with low slung disco funk, lush cosmic chords and a laidback, almost aloof vocal all soothing the soul and making for some nice dance floor intimacy. After that collab between Kylie Auldist and Skinny Dipp, Kylie hooks up with Lincoln Room for 'Party At My Place' which has an odds school instrumental disco feel embellished with low slung grooves and lovely claps.

Young Pulse & Fleur De Mur - "Smooth Sweet Talker" (6:53)
Review: Get yourself geared up for festival season with some fierce party starters certified with the Glitterbox stamp. Melvo Baptiste leads the charge with 'Sweat', a sizzling disco house stomper with Dames Brown giving the biggest diva energy on her show-stopping vocal. Lovebirds bring unbridled joy on the Philly string swoon and slinky b-line funk of 'Burn It Down', while Art Of Tones & Inaya Day keep it peak time on the sassy strutter 'Give My Love'. Young Pulse & Fleur De Mur complete the set with 'Smooth Sweet Talker', another bright and bold vocal cut par excellence.

Santa's Coming (3:24)
Review: What could be more exciting for the funk lover in your life (whether that's you or someone else) than an insanely limited-edition, festively themed "45" from famously reliable party-starter DJ Tron and his regular vocalist Luana? If that sets your bells jingling (sorry), we'd suggest diving straight into A-side 'Merry Christmas', a veritable yuletide feast of boisterous drum-breaks, gravelly guitar riffs, rising horns and sleigh bells, all topped off by a few choice samples and another superb lead vocal from Luana. The pair continue on a similar tip on flipside 'Santa's Coming', a funk-breaks masterclass dedicated to the jolly, chimney-bothering present delivery guy. Only 95 of these hand-numbered sevens were ever pressed, so act fast if you want to grab a copy.

The two producers here bring together a vast cast of musicians playing everything from Moog to claviers, culminating in a texturally rich afro-soul single that urges us to "hold our horses" ('Pas Si Vite') in these troubling times.

Review: Longstanding Japanese crate digger and groove scalpel master Muro pays homage to the influence and legacy of Salsoul with a series of limited 7". Condensing the lavish compositions of both Double Exposure and Loleatta Holloway to pimp-tight four minute bombs, the focus on "Everyman" is fully fixed on the honeyed vocals while "All About The Paper" is repositioned to ensure the emphasis is on the taut break.

Review: Tomede Ehue and Tp Orchestre Poly-rythmo are giants of the global afro scene and to have them together on one 12" is a masterstroke. This third offering from Canopy features the title track from a hard to find Afro 7" that was initially only put out via private press in a Benin label in 1980. Little his known about Tomede Ehue but she is an undeniable talent, and in cahoots with Beninois powerhouse TP Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou they are unstoppable. It's Just Begun (Hansi remix) (4:22)
Jungle Groove (Lego re-edit) (5:27)
Review: The Italian disco dons at Legofunk have another couple of belters for us here. As usual, both sides of this 7" feature an edit. The first is by Hansi who flips the well known 'It's Just Begun' into a driving and funky rhythm with rolling bass. It's a chunky one that never lets up. On the reverse, 'Jungle Groove' gets a re-edit from the in house Lego team and it becomes a loopy affair that teases the drop for ages. When it comes, big chords and raw, yelping vocals add extra fuel to the fire. Both are highly impactful.

Kingdom Of Kaffa - "Yejoro Tili" (5:23)
Laserwolf - "Way To Amiyo" (Yejoro Tili part 2) (4:52)
Review: Presented on brown vinyl in limited qualities, the latest release from Swiss studio-turned-label That's Why Records brings together two tracks from close friends of the family - extended studio collective members Kingdom of Kaffa and Laserwolf. The former handles side A, delivering the hazy, pared-back, analogue-rich goodness of 'Yejero Tilli': a largely instrumental slab of Ethio-funk based around polyrhythmic drums, spacey Moog sounds, occasional horn blasts and a particularly addictive clipped guitar riff. Laserwolf takes over on the reverse side, offering their own recording of the same composition. Their interpretation, 'Way To Amiyo (Yejero Tilli Part 2)' is even more spacey, with waves of analogue synths and gnarled psych-rock guitars sparring atop a cosmic disco-influenced groove.

Treat Me Right (4:39)
Mo Ghetto Bluez (feat Maurice Brown) (5:07)
Review: Linda Muriel is an acclaimed lead vocalist best known for her work with Acid Jazz and Talking Loud acts like The Brand New Heavies, Incognito, Galliano, and JQT. For this one she has joined forces Fitzroy Facey, director of The Soul Survivors Magazine, to craft a fusion of old and new funk and soul sounds. Linda's distinctive voice shines in the infectious track 'Treat Me Right' who has wowed audiences in live performances and featured on the Luxury Soul Weekend 2024 box set. It soared to the top of the UK Soul Breakers Chart on December 31, 2023 and this must cop tune has the instrumental flip side 'Mo Ghetto Bluez' with Maurice Brown, which is perfect for those who appreciate a blend of old-school with a touch of new cool.

Review: Le Disques Bongo Joe's latest EP is a joint release with Calico Discos. It offers up four fresh cuts from L'Eclair, a self-styled "exogroove post-internet" six-piece with three must-check albums to their name. Musically, the four tracks offer a breezy, summery and mixed-up blend of Tony Allen style polyrhythms, tropical funk guitars, languid synthesizer sounds, psychedelic electronics and copious amounts of mind-altering dub effects. Our favourites include the low-slung deep Afro-psychedelia of "Dallas", the rousing, horn-heavy EP opener "Cebando" (a future dancefloor staple for sure), and the Moog-laden sunrise dreaminess of "Atlantis".

Far L'amore Io Da Sola (3:43)
Review: Marina Bellini is credited with just the one release all the way back in 1978. But boy what an EP it is. It's reissued here, firstly with 'Satan In Love', which drips with sensuousness thanks to her airy vocal and the squelchy bass. The loose drum rotations also leave lots fo space for you to fall into and as she soundtracks moments of personal pleasure you can't help but be taken along for the ride. On the reverse is the less intimate and more expansive disco-funk groover 'Far L'amore Io Da Sola'. It's handy, but not as much so as that irresistible a-side.

Stayin' Alive (4:13)
Review: You've probably never thought that you need Cumbia cover versions of classic disco numbers in your life, but as this excellent seven-inch single from Vampi Soul proves, you really do. La Cumba Moderna De Soledad handles side A, delivering an inspired re-imagining of Rod Stewart number 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy' which brilliantly wraps a Spanish translation of the track's familiar lyrics and snake charmer melodies around a typically chunky, club-ready cumbia groove. Arguably even better is Machuca Cumbia's flipside interpretation of Bee-Gees classic 'Staying Alive'. While it's instantly recognisable thanks to the guitar riffs and replayed melodies, their cumbia version is thrillingly psychedelic and undeniably tropical.

Staying Alive (4:12)
Review: Vampisoul dedicate one more 7" to another fresh-from-the-woodfired slice of modern cumbia, this time from the eponymous La Cumbia Moderna De Soledad band and Machuca Cumbia respectively. On the A, the former band offer up a two-toning cumbia version of Rod Stewart's 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?', sparse but well-wrought in its sound. The B is a treat that vibrates at a different, but equally as effective frequency, being a convincingly retro take on the Bee Gees' 'Stayin' Alive', and lending the song's ineluctable melodies a Latin twist by way of hypnotic percs and guitars.

Review: Matasuna takes us on our global travels once more, this time to Latin America and Venezuela for this dance floor heater from La Retreta Mayor. It is an original from 1976 that now lands on its own 7" for the first time and is backed by a fresh remix from King Most. Elements of Latin, funk and jazz all inform the fiery a-side which also has some rich horns and red hot drums, bass and pianos adding to the intensity. The flip side version still has an organic vibe like the original but with a new intro and outro that have their own flavour.

Review: Rare Groove Spectrum Vol. 2 on Freestyle back in January was a superbly well received collection of reworks and imaginings of soul classics. Now Lance Ferguson follows it up with a tidy 7" that features his take on 'Mango Meat' as well as his unique Latin soul cover of Gladys Knight's classic 'Got Myself a Good Man.' It's a bustling jazz-funk gem with glorious flutes bursting out of the mix and rollin drum rhythms. 'Mango meat' goes a litter deeper with its more rolling drum work and psyched-out guitars and big horns.

Review: This is the debut release by the French duo Last Bongo In Paris, also known as Cleon & Jazzy Pidjay. Both are DJs and producers with a background in Latin funk and jazz-funk, and these influences more than strongly shine on 'Green Season', a release whose priority is heavy breakbeats backed by a whismical, live-instrumental flavour. The title track swims and sways through meandering kazoos and psychedelically-filtered falsettos, while the B-side brings up the flip with yet three more incredible live-but-edited-in-post numbers, plus a really weird, never-heard-before 'Bonus Scratch'.

Blessed Are Those Who Struggle (3:46)
Review: 1977's Delights of the Garden, which saw The Last Poets accompanied by legendary soul-jazz sticks-man Bernard Purdie, remains one of the proto-rap innovators' greatest albums. The team behind the Dynamite Cuts label clearly agree, because they've decided to stick two of the set's most magical tracks on one must-have 45. On the A-side there's a chance to savour LP highlight 'It's a Trip', where the band sings and speaks over skittish, loose-limbed Purdie breakbeats, fizzing funk guitars and rubbery bass. Turn it over for special (and tastefully executed) 7" edit of 'Blessed Are Those Who Struggle', a classic chunk of politically charged proto-rap featuring killer drum work from the ever-impressive Purdie. In a word: essential!

Latitude is a seriously and proudly French artist who oozes sophistication and pop hooks that drip with attitude. The musicianship too is of the highest order - irresistible jazz-funk that glows at every turn. Anderson Brothers - "I Can See Him Loving You" (2:48)
Review: Outta Sight's third 7" is another vital pair of hugely desirable, collectible, and rare Northern Soul singles. They are both taken from the new Club Classics album of remastered floor filler anthems and are well deriving of their own slice of wax. These singles from Connie Laverne and The Anderson Brother were put out first in 1974/95 shortly before the GSF label folded. They were DJ-only promos which accounts for their rareness and come with plenty of rumours attached. Musically they are gems that were played from the birth of the scene at Manchester's Twisted Wheel to it's heyday at Wigan Casino.

Review: Despite being something of a confirmed jazz-funk classic, Hubert Laws' "Family" was never released on a 12" single first time around. Curiously, the full version - contained on the A-side of this edition - only ever appeared on the veteran flautist's 1980 album of the same name. It remains, particularly in its original stereo mix form, a superb summer breeze of a jam, with a loved-up female vocal and punchy orchestration riding a sumptuous mid-tempo groove rich in rubbery slap bass and lolloping drumbeats. On the flipside you'll find the more obscure Mono Version, which interestingly feels a little weightier at the bottom end whilst allowing Laws' superb flute solos space to breathe.

Review: Jarrod Lawson has got the bug bad because he declares that he would die for whoever it is that is the apple of his eye on this new single. He has some fans in high places, too, with none other than Michelle Obama coming out to back the "young jazz and blue-eyed soul kid" when recently asked who she was listening to. Jarrod is also a vocalist and pianist as well as a producer and this is his debut 7" - what a cracker it is too with him adding his own take on the Prince classic 'I Would Die 4 U'. Review: Featuring the world famous London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC) remixed here by Ayce, 'Rather Be' is a masterpiece, blending soul, funk and house with gospel-tinged vocals from Annette Bowen. The mix elevates the original, adding a contagious funk groove that brings joy to every beat. The uplifting choir harmonies, sublime horns and heavenly pads are joined by wicked guitar riffs, creating an infectious rhythm that will have you dancing all night. The eight minute instrumental version allows the music to shine with its vibrant keys and dynamic production. LCGC, Europe's premier contemporary gospel choir, brings their signature power and positivity, while Ayce's remix takes it to the next level, blending soulful house with funk and r&b. Featuring the crooner doubling up with an uncredited female vocalist on a late-night boozy rendezvous, we're keen to learn a new meaning of the word "steppin'". It features two of his masterful reworks starting with Jamiroquai's 'Little L'. He flips into a funked up cosmic delight with plenty of the original's synth flourishes melodic hooks and orchestration all present and correct but with added slap bass, replayed rhodes and beefy new drums which make this a surefire dancefloor winner pretty much anywhere. On the flip comes Dave Lee's Disco Fantasy mix of Shelia & B Devotion's 1979 hit 'Spacer' which has a more retro disco sound thanks to the masterful original work of Chic. Additional clav, new string parts and solo-ing keys give 'Spacer' the extended DJ mix it never had at the time of original release.

Review: The Leo Zero Edit Archive is here, you can safely assume, to serve up edits from the vast archives of Leo Zero. The first volume is a doozy that kicks off with 'Love Affair' - a lazy and low sung funk burner with noodling bass riffs and a glorious vocal full of happiness. 'Let Me Love U' has a yearning male vocal that is as lovestruck as they come over more leggy mid tempo beats. 'Easy Does It' is defined by its superb string stabs and rolling drums and 'For A Living' closes out with a more house learning disco beat that is fat and fantastic. We can't wait for more.

Mudd Club (feat MrE) (3:52)
Mudd Club (XL Middleton remix) (3:30)
Review: Leopard DaVinci & Louis 707 will have you doing dance floor acrobatic in no time with this one. It finds the pair bridge the gap between retro funk flavours and fresh and juicy modern boogie, with plenty of fie angle sounds and irresistible baselines. Original tune 'Mudd Club' is a real ass willer from the off, with balmy chords and soulful vocals, arpeggiated basslines and step chords that are hard to ignore. On the flip is an XL Middleton remix that beefs up the drums, gets the claps and your hips swigging and heads off to the stars for a cosmic funk get down of the highest order.

Review: Although he's never quite tasted the success his astutely observed '80s electrofunk and disco workouts deserve, Leopard Da Vinci has nevertheless released some inspired music over the years. This expansive 12" single - his first for some time - contains more future classics, too, with lead cut 'Garde Fou' delivering the perfect blend of slap-bass, lo-fi drum machine hits, chiming synthesizer melodies, and sleazy French spoken word vocals. It comes accompanied by cheery and up-tempo bonus cut 'Summer Drive' and a wealth of remixes. Of these, we're really enjoying the kaleidoscopic electrofunk explosion that is the DJ Fiction remix, though the slicker, nu-disco-meets-deep house revision by El Kazed is also rather good.

Dynamic Duo (4:01)
Review: The Lewis Connection was a Soul / Funk band from Minneapolis who may have looked like your average local band save for one exception - the guest member addition of Prince. These tracks are lifted from the self-titled album and "Got To Be Something Here" with Prince on background vocals and guitar marks the first time he appeared on a release by another artist on a track he did not write. In addition, it's also considered an early record of what would become the signature Minneapolis funk sound. This fine historically rich tune will be available in 45 rpm format for the first time.

Pink Steamroller (2:39)
Boodilidoo (2:42)
Review: is an incredibly hard to find Australian jazz-funk & latin tinged 45 - It rarely turns up anywhere, which is why originals listed fetch upwards of $500AUD. The A-side was written by master Australian-Czech trumpeter/composer Miroslav Bukovsky (Renee Geyer, Marcia Hines, the list goes on) Coupled with the original, more Latin-tinged B-side, which was written by highly regarded fellow Australian jazz composer, arranger, drummer, cornettist and vibraphonist John Sangster, this was one of a few 45s The Life Organisation recorded. This 2020 re-issue 7" single comes in a custom-made pink outer cover-sleeve featuring a single line pencil drawing by Sydney artist Bradley O'Brien.

Review: Light of the World are a seminal Brit-funk outfit who have long been teasing their new album, Jazz Funk Power. That is finally out now and you can also get some of the highlights of it on this fine 7", 'Heart to Heart' is a big and celebratory funk gem with huge trumpet stabs, rolling drums and hip swinging clasp that are pure feel good grooves. Flip to over and you will be treated to one of the album's slower songs, the lovestruck 'Summer Girl' which is as laid back and warm as an afternoon in the park taking in some rays.

New Dance (6:20)
Feel The Feeling (6:18)
Review: Light Touches Records continues its mission to shine a spotlight on rare gems, forgotten classics, and unknown grooves with their tenth release, helmed by Andrea Passenger. Digging deep into disco, afro, boogie and funk, Passenger delivers four expertly edited tracks. On the A-side, 'Roots' offers a driving disco tune for peak-time moments, while 'Psych Afro Roller' takes things into more adventurous territory. On the flip, 'New Dance' adds boogie flair with quirky synths, and 'Feel The Feeling' wraps it up with a moody, deeper vibeiall edited without overdubs for maximum authenticity.
