Review: London experimental and deep/minimal house innovator-continuator Matthew Herbert teams up with drummer and vocalist Momoko Gill - a self-taught musician with ties to Coby Sey and Tirzah - for a rawly real new record, Clay, as ever drawing on not just the textures of daily life, but also unconventional sound sources. As is typical for Herbert and his discog-wide interest in domestic sounds, we hear everyday foleys and realist samples utilised with efficiency, from kotos to basketballs, as Gill's voice carries across the eleven tracks a disarming clarity, from the layered arrangements of 'Mowing' to the up-close harmonies of 'Heart'. The pair previously collaborated on 2024's 'Fallen' and Gill's remix of Herbert's 'The Horse Is Here', but this is their first full-length release as a duo.

Review: Heat Rock returns with its fifth release, delivering a double-sided gem packed with Afro-Latinate remixes from the Native Tongues universe. On one side, San Francisco's King Most offers 'Rhythm Rug', a tribute to both American and African funk legends, reimagined with his signature heeling groove. Flip it over, and Chicago's Altered Tapes transforms a classic De La sample into an Arabesque dancehall-infused breakbeat banger.

Review: This iconic debut album from James Mason is reissued here, and any self-respecting fan of jazz, funk or soul in any of their forms should consider picking up a copy if they haven't already. Not to be confused with actor, a one-time member of Roy Ayers' Ubiquity band, Mason's output is a testament to quality over quantity i he didn't release much, but everything that did see the light of day is worth its weight in gold. Bursting with intention, consciousness and masterful musicality, Rhythm of Life is nothing short of a tour de force. From the searing vocals, psychedelic synths and propulsive rhythm section of floor-fillers like 'Sweet Power, Your Embrace' and 'Free', to the heartfelt messaging of 'Good Thing' and the feel-good charm of 'Slick City', the album never misses a beat i and still sounds as fresh today as it did on its original release in 1977.

Samurai (DJ Kawasaki 45 edit)
Review: Following a string of standout singles and a full-length album last year, seasoned Tokyo salsa collective Central waste no time with a killer new 7" release, a finisher for the floor. The A1 delivers a fresh Latin take on Earth, Wind & Fire's evergreen floor fave 'Brazilian Rhyme', optically shifted through vibrant, horn-driven movements and bolder basslines, shimmering electric pianisms, and brumming brass, concocting an patented sound all their own. On the flip, DJ Kawasaki steps in to reimagine the band's much sought-after 2023 single 'Samurai', already a global wantlist staple, transforming it into a hotter club-salsa charmer.

Review: Chicago-born singer James "Baby Huey" Ramey's only full-length album, released posthumously in 1971, remains one of the sharpest hidden gems of psychedelic soul. Produced and completed by Curtis Mayfield after Huey's untimely death at age 26, the record bursts with raw, genre-melting powerifrom the explosive groove of 'Hard Times', famously sampled by A Tribe Called Quest and Ice Cube, to the deeply soulful covers of Sam Cooke's 'A Change Is Going To Come' and The Mamas & the Papas' 'California Dreaming'. Cuts like 'Mama Get Yourself Together' and 'Running' showcase Huey's towering voice, mixing gospel intensity with an almost proto-rap directness. Newly remastered from the original tapes by Chris Bellman, this reissue, pressed onto heavyweight vinyl, gives deserved clarity and warmth to Huey's powerful, forward-thinking music, reaffirming his lasting influence across hip-hop, funk, and soul.

Review: Colombian DJ and Berlin-based curator Edna Martinez pays vibrant homage to the Caribbean Pico tradition with this raw and electrifying collection. Drawing on decades of sonic exchange between Cartagena, West Africa and the wider Caribbean, the selections move from the Ghanaian coastal bounce of Wulomei's 'Takoradi' to the joyous Angolan sway of Conjunto Ana N'Gola's 'Puxa Odoette'. Edits by Martinez breathe new energy into Zaiko Langa Langa's 'La Tout Neige' and Erick Cosaque's 'Ajaccio', extending the dancefloor potential without diluting their essence. The highlife pulse of Peacocks International's 'Igbala Oso' sits alongside Colombian staples like Los Corraleros De Majagual's 'Remanga' and Claudio Y Su Combo's 'Como Sea'. Each track carries a unique local identity-like Pico Sin Fronteras' 'Abel Llinas'-but together they hum with transatlantic movement. A deeply researched, brilliantly sequenced journey through a scene where the speaker box becomes a passport.

Review: The first album by saxophone player Takao Uematsu heard him flaunt his diaphragmatic abilities solo after a moment away from his merry band, the George Otsuka Group, which in turn took its name from the drummer whose rhythms you also hear on this record. Drawing clear inspiration from Joe Henderson, Uematsu's playing is marked by a distinctive blend of power, precision, and expressive depth that set him apart in Japan's jazz scene. Here on this curt suite in four movements, we hear insouciant tones meld with latent recuperations of structure, as on the bell-curving emotive peaks of 'TI' and the drum brushing deconstructions of 'Sleeve My Love', with gaping, catch-up rhythms handled masterfully by Otsuka.

Wafty
Review: London soul-jazz composer and producer Andrei Nikolsky - formerly of the equal-parts Palace Records favourite The Kanpai Quartet - now broadcasts yet two more heavy-hitters from straight from the label whose logo pulls from the iconographic Crystal Palace Transmitter. 'Botchit & Scarper' is heard far and wide, hijacking the airwaves with what sounds at face value like an unsound moral principle - but on second listen to its slack-shouldered ease, whimsied brass and scaphoid drumming, might function just as well as a principle for free living. Of course, if something's worth doing then it's worth doing "botched", though Nikolsky currently hasn't botched this one. 'Wafty' follows as the blue piano sojourn, replete with plinking ninths and a hiss-hummed rhythms section.

Review: This is a single taken from UK jazz-funk outfit Funkshone's debut album which features a cover of the classic free-soul anthem 'I Believe In Miracles' by the Jackson Sisters. It's a raw and direct funk-soul sound that has been increasingly popular in recent years with champions like Floating Points often weaving it into his sets. On the B-side, they offer a freshly recorded take on 'Panama' by Roy Porter Sound Machine, which was previously only found on select CD editions. It is powered by an explosive drum break that hits with near-manic intensity from the very first beat and is a nice driving counter to the soulful A-side.

Named in spirit after a Prince song but in reality focusing on those uncut soul seams for whose exposure most lightweights would need to dig far deeper into the earth to dredge, this latest edition ups the lux on two further formerly receded funk and soul de-lights. First, The Joubert Singers ‘Stand On The Word’ through hull-rocking callout funk, while Fred Prescott & The Jeff Band deal a snappy blow with ‘Come Fly With Me’, popularly renowned for the question mark over the date of its recording: 198?.

Review: Le Tres Jazz Club presents the long-awaited reissue of Step!, the 1973 Japanese modal jazz masterpiece by Naosuke Myiamoto Sextet. First released on the indomitable Three Blind Mice label, we've an irreversible blend of hard-bop spice and deep modal oils on our plates here. Led by bassist Naosuke Myiamoto, there're star performances by Masayoshi Yoneda on piano, Takashi Goto and Takashi Furuya on saxophone, Kunji Shigi on trumpet, and Shoji Nakayama on drums. Notable for two compositions by the legendary Harold Land, including the lapping, soul-stirring, honorific 'One For Trane', the LP also contains three of Myiamoto's originals, the best of which has to be the celestial 'Where Do They Go'.

Funky Together
Review: Wax Digits hits release number five with a tight and tidy two-tracker from the late veteran Robert Ouimet who passed a couple of years ago. Before then he cooked up these gems with his pal and production partner Dave Godin. They are being released as a tribute to the memory of Ouimet and a fine one they are too. 'Plenty' has a raw groove and big chords with jangling guitars adding hints of melancholy that counter the big stabs. Soulful vocals are a great finishing touch then 'Funky Together' is more loose and strident with big horns leading the way under psyched-out chords. Two quality party starters.

Review: New Jersey's K-Def links been-around beat architect Southpaw Chop for a sleek range of DJ-ready instrumentals on Jokamachi Stilo. Known equally for their earlier collaboration as Real Live, they sample the same jazz sources as utilised on that project but now rebuild said material through distinct approaches, resulting in three contrasting adumbrations of style. An extra cut from Funky Soul Brother completes the trifecta, remixing an earlier DJ Koco and Chop rendezvous, shortly before a bonus trick by Chop gauds the mix in mellow style. With smoky textures and rhythms filtered through unimpeachable jazz samples, the project embodies the "castle town style" so implied in the title.

Review: Reggie Lucas assembled Sunfire in the early 80s, drawing from a deep well of experience as a guitarist, producer and songwriter behind era-defining hits for Stephanie Mills and Madonna. With Raymond Calhoun and Rowland Smith circum-pleting the trio, Sunfire's self-titled LP distilled their collective pedigree into a lean set of slick, synth-laced funk, whose rubber sound is as taut as liquid elastane. 'Young, Free & Single', their best known track, leads the charge with infectious bounce, flanked by 'Feet', 'Step In The Light' and 'Keep Rocking My Love', breaststroking between boogie, electro and disco-soul, all neatly fastened by the drum machine. Produced just before Lucas' work on Madonna's debut, the record glows with rawhide studio sheen and radio-ready confidence. This limited edition repress comes to just 750 copies on yellow "flamed" vinyl.

Review: A specialist of short, exquisite instrumental funk records, Masayoshi Takanaka laid this sweet, yearning, yachtbound record down in 1979, following the previous year's Latin sojourn, Brasilian Skies. This slice of jollity sacrifices much of Takanaka's regional focus, and instead brings seven rather more generally awesome, mostly instru-prog-funk tunes to the fore (even though 'Radio Rio' still alludes to Brazil's home city, where Takanaka spent much time honing the samba and bossa nova influences that informed his craft, as well as performing). Lead tune 'Blue Lagoon' is noted for catapulting Takanaka's career after it was taken up by Pioneer for a TV ad; ambient heads would likely contest this history, arguing that the later ambient cut 'Sango-sho No Yousei' is the star tune, and the one that should've won him the limelight.

Led by pianist Tsuyoshi Yamamoto - and with Hideto Kanai on bass and Tetsujiro Obara on drums - this stilly nighttime masterpiece is a true bask in a lamplit witching hour, nailed in the simple contrast of skeletal, swirling drum-brush playing and distant pianissimo. With striking renditions of jazz standards, including 'I'm A Fool To Want You' and 'The Nearness Of You,' where Yamamoto's delicate phrasing shines; the record's appeal rests in the trio's evident chemistry and Yamamoto's expressive yet precise touch.

Review: Retro-Respect's DJ-AL is a fluent speaker of hip-hop edits phonetics, having put out over 16 7"s for his so named label since 2019. 2025 has so far seen 'MVP' and 'Make Me Wanna Holler', the latter of which you hear here: The Supremes' 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' gets a big breaks beat furtherance with horn-laden cliffhanger moods, while the Motown trio's 'This Is Why I Believe In You' is rerubbed to equally squeaky-clean sheen on the A.

Review: Funk Machine marks a second release on Big Baba Record for Edaldo who goes big with four electrifying tracks that are perfectly tooled for open-air and summer dancefloors. The title cut brings big, bright, bold disco-house anthem vibes with full-throttle vocals and piano stand, 'People' has a more Italo-disco vibe with an infectious vocal hook and nice retro bassline and 'Jah Noon' is a club-ready remix of a rare Yemeni groove that melts disco and indie-dance with an oriental twist. Last of all is the acid-infused Kwaito cut 'Johna' with classic cowbells and snaking bass. These are big tunes but they don't lack class.

Review: By 2004, Harold Budd was a sufferer of chronic "no, really, this is my final album" syndrome; he had claimed Avalon Sutra as his artistic curtain call, which would reach its apotheotic height under the David Sylvian and his label Samadhisound. The reality was that Budd did go on to record many another album, including a Philip Glass tribute and a solo piano album, Perhaps (2007). But this, his intended retirement, was probably his most interesting. Florid neo-noir soundscapes - mured behind soft-saturated limits of sax and trellised piano - glean an unusual sense of a Lynchian underside to domesticity and normality. A soundtrack to a part-corrupted life, this "Arabesque" record transitions into utter serenity by the time of 'Little Heart', whose faint triangles and swelling pads nail an impure and contradictory sense of alterity, resignation and peace.

Review: Durand Jones, Aaron Frazer and Blake Rhein return with Flowers, their fourth album, revisiting the same raw, budding energy that first plotted them together in a Bloomington basement. Embracing a back-to-basics approach, and echoing the collaborative spirit of their 2016 debut, this self-produced LP took shape at Rhein's Chicago home studio, with many tunes edified from one-take demos, capturing a no-frills but beautifully petaled synergy between the trio. Flowers' 11 phases lean into a refined, yet playful blend of soul-disco, exuding a smooth, homegrown, sexologic vibe, like an aphrodisiac planter hung from the dashboard as we embark on a late night drive. "All of these songs touch on such mature topics, things that we never got to sing about before," says Jones. A right blossoming indeed.

Review: Ma Ze Music welcomes back the quality pairing of UV & Nenor for a new selection of original cuts that were recorded between the Middle East and Scandinavia. Between them they have plenty of styles in their arsenal and here combine them with bold analogue synths, percussion with a tribal twist and some special guest collaborations. 'Arayot' is a real bass odyssey with spaced-out melodies and marimbas alongside Ophir "Kutiman" Kutiel's drums. 'Tanim' brings some moody and psychedelic voodoo funk with hard-hitting drums, edgy clavinets and a magnificent synth lead by Romano, while the icing on the cake is a superb flute solo by Shlomi Alon. Emotional tension and groove come together perfectly here on what might be UV & Nenor's best yet.

Review: Jukebox Disco Divas makes a fine entry into the world of wax with this first too-classic-to-fail edit offering. First up is an instrumental rework of a well-known and strident disco delight from the golden 70s era. It's sympathetically done with big drums, hooky trumpets and enough original vocals from the Moroder-style gem to make sure the floor catches fire. On the flip, an equally delicious tweak of an equally great original. This first 7" sets a fine standard for what is sure to be a very useful new label for lovers of old and new disco and plenty of sounds in between.

Review: The UK's renowned jazz-funk outfit Speedometer spawns a new single here that takes the form of a bunch of classy covers, all taken from their recent third album Four Flights Up. The A-side offers a refined version of 'Am I Your Woman?', plus a take on the Chi-Lites' classic 'Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)' with Ria Currie's standout vocals lodging deep in your soul. This one was inspired by a night spent dancing at a club in Osaka during their 2005 Japan tour and arms with a smooth groove. On the B-side, they do a fine job of 'Nam M'Yoho Ren'Ge Kyo,' originally by the Night Blooming Jazzmen, by delivering a tight, funky groove with exceptional horn and drum arrangements.

Review: New Zealand ensemble The Circling Sun follow up their debut with seven new compositions that blend mid-70s spiritual jazz with modular synth work and Afro-Cuban rhythmic structures. 'Constellation' opens with choral motifs and analogue pulses, setting the tone for a set that shifts easily between acoustic and electronic palettes. 'Mizu' and 'Seki' both lean into syncopated hand percussion, with upright piano and saxophone sitting high in the mix. 'Amina' introduces layered vocals over a looser, groove-driven rhythm, while 'Flying' stretches further into ambient territory, guided by slow synth arpeggios and minimal melodic phrasing. 'Teeth' cuts back to more percussive material, cycling through drum and modular interplay without reaching for climax. Closer 'Evening' softens the pace, drawing on warm textures and sustained chords to round out the set. The sequencing keeps the energy in motion without pushing too far into repetition. It's a subtle but deliberate shift in direction - less revivalist than their previous work and more focused on tone and movement.

Review: Originally released in 1979, 'Sleeping Beauty' catches Sun Ra and the Arkestra at their most seductive - gliding between slow, funk-laced grooves and spaced-out jazz ritual. 'Springtime Again' floats on dreamy Rhodes chords and soft percussion, with ghostly vocals murmuring just out of reach. 'Door of the Cosmos' follows, folding in chant-like singing and funk-laced bass, equal parts devotional and dancefloor. Then there's the title track: a slow, luxurious sprawl of keys, horns and mood, glowing with after-hours warmth. A key figure in experimental jazz, Sun Ra led his ever-evolving Arkestra from the mid-1950s onwards, blending free jazz, doo-wop, electronics, poetry and science fiction into a visionary body of work. This reissue on Strut gives 'Sleeping Beauty' the shine it deserves - one of Ra's most intimate and accessible transmissions.

Review: Panarama's follow-up to Cartagena! delivers another essential slice of Colombian musical history with Michi Sarmiento y sus Bravos: Salsa y Descarga 1967-1977. A new 16-track compilation, it captures the fierce, joyful energy of Michi's golden era on Discos Fuentes, a label synonymous with Colombia's explosive tropical sound. Born in 1938, Michi was a saxophone prodigy who led his Combo Bravo with swagger, blending cumbia, guaguanco, boogaloo, and salsa into relentless, percussion-heavy grooves. Backed by two blazing trumpets and a young Joe Arroyo on vocals, Michi's sound is rich with tumbling congas, sharp montunos, and wild sax riffs. Two choice cuts from the comp, 'Mirame San Miguel' and 'Cumbia Raja', come pinched from the wider bag, displaying characteristic stridency, a charisma that peeks through even on high-lopped, vintage recordings such as these.

This newly redid version has been fine-tuned for maximum playback quality, thanks to an effortful mastering job from Bernie Grundman. Onuki, a crucial figure in Japan's 70s city pop movement, merged jazz, funk, and soul with her soulful, at times doleful vocal style, and Mignon, for its lush arrangements and smooth sophic production production, remains one of her defining works.

Review: Mystery-heavy UK leftfield soul outfit Sault's 12th album feels like a deeply personal offering wrapped in some of the most radiant production of their career. With Inflo behind the boards, the album moves fluidly between soulful reflection and uplifting groove. Opener 'The Healing' speaks to emotional growth, inner peace and shared vulnerability. The message is clear: healing is a journey best taken together. Tracks like 'Power' and 'Know That You Will Survive' are driven by rich, pulsing basslines and lush instrumentation. They groove with purpose, rooted in funk and soul while sounding unmistakably present-day. Cleo's voice carries a calm authority, especially on 'Know That You Will Survive'. a song that delivers hard truths with grace and warmth. 'Look Up' springs to life with Pino Palladino's bass anchoring the song's ghostly harmonies. Tracks such as 'Higher Than the Rain' and 'Real Love' layer gently but build with quiet force. The subtlety makes them all the more gripping. But 'Sorry It's Too Late' lingers the longest. A simple piano line and Cleo's bare, aching voice create a stillness that's hard to shake. Through sorrow, hope and light, 10 is a graceful reminder that there's strength in softness.

Review: John Coltrane's exploration of modal jazz shines through in this energetic and thought-provoking performance. Opening with 'Naima,' the track takes an introspective yet powerful approach, allowing us to see Coltrane's unique ability to blend intricate melodic lines with a deep sense of emotional expression. The rhythm section, led by Elvin Jones on drums, locks in with Coltrane's saxophone, creating a sense of tension and release throughout the album. Tracks like 'Cousin Mary' introduce a playful, upbeat energy, offering a contrast to the more meditative moments. This release is a testament to Coltrane's ability to push the boundaries of jazz while maintaining an innate emotional depth.

Review: This joyous double LP highlights the infectious spirit of the roller-skating craze that swept through America's rinks in the late 70s and early 80s. This compilation curates 20 classics that mirror the glittering lights, the sweat-soaked dancefloors and the euphoric energy of the culture. The first side features The Whispers' 'And The Beat Goes On', a fitting mantra for an era where the rhythm truly never stopped. Tommy Stewart's 'Bump & Hustle Music' and Loleatta Holloway's fiery 'Love Sensation' keep the energy sky-high. Side-B's Candido classic 'Jingo' and Carol Williams' shimmering 'Love Is You' channel Latin-infused disco energy that filled roller rinks coast to coast. Disc two glides deeper into funk territory with Positive Force's 'We Got The Funk' and Gwen McCrae's 'All This Love That I'm Givin'' add grit and soul. Instant Funk and Inner Life bring raw heat, while Patrice Rushen's 'Forget Me Nots' adds an irresistible smoothness. It's capped off by Barry White's 'Change', a slow-burn closer that cools things down with cinematic flair. What makes this collection shine is not just the hits, but the sequencing and spirit that's gathered here with love for a time when music, wheels and dance created pure liberation.

Though they're hardly known besides the one track, we hope this one facilitates better biographic forensic work by future historians. What we do know is that the quietly took on a second life when Art Of Tones made an unofficial remix, depositing past the master bus a deeply affectionate rework passed between selectors like Antal and Radio Meuh. Word of mouth gave it freestanding floor legs long before it saw daylight, and now, after some anticipation, it enjoys its properest release, AOT further polishing the original's percussive heartbeat with heavier low-end and crisp production compared to the circulated remix.

Drawn from self-released singles, forgotten one-offs and vanished imprints, the collective curate pulls on fragile ballads, crisp steppers and DIY studio heat from overlooked corners of Detroit, Monterey, Springfield, you name it. Highlights include the featherlight Citation cut ‘Inspiration Of My Life’, out on Red Line Records in 1977, and the wistful groove of Cho-Ko’s ‘Tried And Cried’, out of Waterford in 1982. And the tightly played ‘Nowhere’ by Springfield’s The Aferton Project, originally cut as a standalone 7” before anchoring their debut LP. More gems by Coleus, Ice-O-Matic, and Arejay garnish a monded crown of historic lives in soul and funk left otherwise mostly undocumented.

Review: London DJ and selector Josh Mason-Quinn, better known as Somewhere Soul, curates a new collection mirrorring the ebb and flow of a full day's listening, mapping moods from early morning uplift to late-night release. Titled Rituals, this first volume is a birds-eye blend of jazz, soul and house of an international retinue, spotlighting lesser-known names together with a few more familiar underground figures. This first volume in a series offers a wide-angle snapshot of a scene in motion, built from the same crate-digging instincts and personal selection rituals that drive Josh's own work.

Review: Super Spicy is keeping up a busy release rate, but more impressively, is also keeping the quality levels nice and high. Its eighth dish kicks off with an irresistible hors d'oeuvre in the form of Monsieur Van Pratt's big piano jam 'Gotta Get Down', which is pure floor-filling tackle. Voyager 909's 'Shake' blends big strings, soulful vocals and hip-swig in claps with a down and dirty bassline. There is more heads up disco-funk from Disco 86, sexier sounds from the sultry disco bomb that is 'Funktastic Fantastic' and Edson Agiss layers up horns, guitar licks and squealing Hammond organs on 'Comme Ci, Comme Ca.' Rob Castillo sees things out with Got To Be Slick,' an irresistibly soulful and flute-laced house roller with hints of Americana in the guitar riffs buried deep in the mix.

Review: London-based keyboard player, composer, bandleader and DJ Greg Foat is a musician completely of his time and somehow beyoGreg Foat trades in his go-to instrumental versions for a narrative-led, spiritual concept record, teaming up with singer Forest Law on a space-crafted mission, orbiting the life and work of Isle Of Wight painter and surfer Dave Gray. It's the first time Foat has built an album entirely around a vocalist, and Forest Law leans into an abstract, painterly mode, channeling early Peter Gabriel and David Sylvian with lyrics full of oblique references to ocean rhythms and coastal philosophy. Underpinned by a supple rhythm section (none other than Moses Boyd on drums, Idris Rahman on sax, and Tom Herbert on bass) the album meanders between new wave, jazz fusion and mellow psychedelia, centrally yet sensually reoriented by Foat's signature Rhodes work.

Review: There is a great backstory to Darryl Baalki. We don't know how true it is, if at all, but it goes something like this: he is an enigmatic figure raised alone by his mother, his only connection to the outside world was his father's record collection. As a child, he believed this collection contained all the music ever created. Convinced that new music could only emerge by reassembling its parts, he obsessively listened, memorised, and mentally reconstructed sound before making new compositions from existing pieces. This is his latest missive and it is deeply moving, from the percussive jumble of the opener to the earthy shuffle and seductive sax of 'Devil May Care' via the hypnotising trumpet leads of 'Nothing Will Break You'. Fans of Mo Kolours et all will love this.

Review: Released without a hint of fanfare first time round in 2021, this deeply intimate collaboration between Ukrainian vocalist Yana Pavlova and Berlin-based producer Pavel Milyakov continues to command attention, almost of its own accord. Built out of minimal guitar patterns, submerged dub-influenced bass and spectral saxophone contributions from Alex Zhang Hungtai, the LP unfolds through a mix of improv and aleatory algo-synthesis, where rather than smoothing over imperfections, the artists lean into them; mic rustle, background clicks and ambient irregularities all inform on its dark jazzy, trancelike post-humanoid atmos.

Review: Mike Popov is the musician behind the I Gemin project, which was conceived as a way of working disco style and sampling into his house tracks. And the results are brilliantly effective and charming. 'Introfall (Autumn)' makes for a low-slung downtempo start, 'Come Together' brings horn-led disco house fun and 'Black Tea Groove' sinks into a fat-bottomed and dubby rhythm alive with magical synth flourishes. The blissed out 'Summer Breeze' is an escapist charmer, and the flipside features three more exquisite genre studies that have real heart and authenticity.

Review: Discoweey makes its vinyl bow here, and in some style, too, as Hotmood brings the heat. He is no stranger to doing that - the Mexican Guillermo Gonzalez Santana broke out more than a decade ago and has been leading his local, and the global, disco scene from the front ever since. Side A kicks off with the global hit 'Ya Te Olvide' extended and guaranteed to ignite. Following that is 'DDD,' a high-energy banger, then 'Funk Party' is a crowd favourite that held the top chart spot for weeks and smooth and soulful closer 'D.R.E.A.M.I.N.G.' leaves a lasting impression.

Review: The latest release from London's Kokoroko expands their jazz-rooted palette into something looser, brighter and more groove-led. Still grounded in Afrobeat, the eleven tracks lean into British r&b, West African disco and lovers rock, with the band embracing richer synth work and electronic textures. Opener 'Never Lost' sets out the warm, melodic terrain, before 'Sweetie' flips into a lilting, drum-machine-led love song. 'Closer To Me' and 'My Father In Heaven' offer hazy, introspective turns, while 'Idea 5 (Call My Name)' featuring LULU and the Azekel-assisted 'Three Piece Suit' sharpen the edges with silky, syncopated swagger. The Demae-led 'Time & Time' draws on 80s soul and head-nod jazz, followed by 'Da Du Dah', a bubbling interlude. 'Together We Are' and 'Just Can't Wait' stretch into optimistic dancefloor territory, before 'Over/Reprise' ties it all back to the band's meditative core. Their second full-length, it feels freer and more collaborative, but still unmistakably them.
