It feels like a continuation of the Roxy Music legacy in spirit, mood and style, with that familiar air of suave detachment and immaculate detail, with a production styler that's lush and forward-thinking, bridging classic lounge-pop stylings with modern textures that still sound fresh over a decade later. The sleekness is no accident - every element is meticulously placed, from the glossy synths to the hushed guitars and orchestral flourishes. 'Shameless' is one of the more adventurous tracks, pulling in electronic flourishes courtesy of Roots Manuva. It's a bold move that actually works, blending suave vocals with a beat-driven framework that never feels forced. The real surprise, though, is the version of 'Song to the Siren' - a haunting, fragile take on the track made famous by Tim Buckley and This Mortal Coil alike, that shows just how much weight his voice can carry with minimal backing. Easily one of the most affecting covers in his catalogue. 'Tender Is The Night' rounds out the highlights with a melodic, romantic glow. Review: LA based Black Market Dub like to rework great artists of decades gone by through a new sound system lens. This time it is the great 80s pop duo Hall & Oates who get the treatment with six of their most well-known tunes all reworked at slower tempos, with natty guitars, horns and rolling rhythms bring a new and sunny perspective. 'Private Eyes' in particular sounds superbly laid back and sun kissed for Balearic sessions and 'Maneater' also does the business with the original vocals soaring over lazy chords and amidst oodles of echo and reverb.

Review: Between 1969 and 1970, Elton John recorded a wide range of cover versions as part of his early career as a session musician and budget label contributor, and this new Iceni compilation tracks some of the very best of that era. Working frequently with producer Paul Brooks and arranger Zack Laurence, he lent his vocals to low-cost soundalike records covering contemporary hits. Be these Beatles or Rolling Stones redos, or personal takes on Simon & Garfunkel through Creedence Clearwater Revival, none were widely credited at the time, and yet they reveal John's vocal adaptability and emerging style, revealing a familiarly trodden path for many a musical mega-greats: as did Johnny Cash all the way through to Justin Bieber, you can make a sure start with covers.

Review: This 2017 remaster revisits Paul McCartney's 1989 return to critical favour i a release that saw the UK artist bridging new studio technology with classic songwriting craft. Working with Elvis Costello on several co-writes, and producers including Trevor Horn, Mitchell Froom and Steve Lipson, the record pulls in tight arrangements, layered instrumentation and a refreshed lyrical sharpness. Review: Van Morrison's 47th full-length arrives as his first album of new material since a run of reinterpretations and cover records. Remembering Now, out via Exile Productions and Virgin, sees the Belfast-born songwriter refocusing on original composition with a sprawling 14-track set that includes 'Down To Joy' - originally heard on the Belfast film soundtrack in 2021 - and new single 'Cutting Corners'. The record spans brass-accented soul, lyrical nostalgia and late-night jazz folk, with arrangements involving long-time collaborators and guests including violinist Seth Lakeman and arranger Fiachra Trench. The legend himself plays guitar, sax and produces throughout, folding a cast of backing vocalists and a full rhythm section into his mix. It's a rare late-career return to the kind of expansive songwriting that first defined his 70s output.
